Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 228: Ignite the War (VIII)
Marik escaped all the guards in the Beast Kingdom smoothly. He was used to slipping in and out of the Beast Kingdom at this point and knew many blind spots. He was about to leave the kingdom when he saw an owl beastman who rushed out of his house to check the crowd that had surrounded the envoy’s body on the street.
It only took a second for Marik to know that the middle-aged owl beastman was none other than Vestor, the national advisor and the one holding the Beast Kingdom together while the Beast King was away.
Marik’s study of this middle-aged man concluded that Vestor wasn’t exactly the best at handling more private matters inside the kingdom, but he was undoubtedly the best bureaucrat, rivaling even the best in human civilization.
And the fact that Vestor could give the envoy a good impression despite his initial suspicion toward the beastmen showed his capability as a temporary magistrate.
’I can’t let him live. He’s going to somehow find a middle ground with Ludwig and create a peaceful treaty until Kael returns,’ Marik thought.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t just jump in and snap Vestor’s neck, because he was an owl who could turn his head almost in a full rotation.
So, Marik decided to aim for the owl’s heart instead.
The tiger beastman moved in a flash and landed right behind Vestor. He raised his hand, ready to strike Vestor in the chest and kill him instantly, but an owl’s senses were at their peak at night.
So when Marik’s sharp claws were about to pierce his skin, Vestor quickly dodged by jumping away from Marik.
He turned his head and saw a "human," but then noticed the sharp claws and realized this "human" must have been a beastman who used a special potion from Jing Forest to hide his animal features.
"Tch," Marik clicked his tongue annoyedly before jumping for another attack, but Vestor moved quickly in the dark of the night.
Vestor knew he had no time to fight back because this tiger was too fast and deadly even for a strong owl in the middle of the night like him.
So he screamed at the top of his lungs, "HELP! THERE’S AN INTRUDER!!!!"
His scream proved to be effective because Marik heard the sound of beastmen rushing toward their direction.
Marik knew he had no more time to kill Vestor. But he still had to incapacitate the owl in one way or another so he couldn’t interfere when Barion Kingdom waged war against the Beast Kingdom.
Thus, Marik decided to move faster this time and launched himself toward the owl.
He was so fast that Vestor barely had enough time to dodge the incoming attack.
Marik missed Vestor’s heart, but he was able to hit Vestor in his upper chest to the point that he created a gaping hole in the middle-aged owl’s ribs.
"Urk—ahk!"
Vestor vomited blood as Marik pulled his hand back, flicking the blood from his sharp claws.
"Sir Vestor!" the beastman guards who had just arrived watched everything unfold right in front of them. They rushed to Vestor’s side to protect him as he fell from the sky. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Garou, the general around the area, ordered the guards, "Send Sir Vestor to the physician. Get him treated immediately!"
"Yes, Young General!"
Marik peered as his sense of danger began to waver. This young panther must be stronger than he looked.
Unfortunately, he had no reason to stay any longer after severely injuring the nation’s advisor.
Marik turned away from Garou and moved quickly in the dark of the night.
He ignored Garou who chased after him, jumping from one roof to another.
"Stay right there and fight me! Graaahh!" Garou exasperatedly tried to attack Marik a few times, but the tiger beastman dodged all of the attacks with grace before disappearing into the night, leaving the angry panther looking around, trying to find Marik.
Once he had escaped everyone’s chase, Marik left the Beast Kingdom and swiftly returned to the crown prince’s camp.
He entered his tent and saw Leah still sleeping like a log, which was perfect for him because he didn’t need someone else to know what he had done tonight.
On top of that, he also planned to kill Leah once he had successfully kidnapped Jojo and Sisi, since Leah had outlived her usefulness at that point.
"Now with their advisor incapacitated, they will not be able to make a logical decision. They’ll start reverting to their primal nature as beastmen," Marik sneered as he was now 100% certain that his plan would go according to plan.
Honestly, he wanted to go to the palace and check on Sisi and Jojo, hoping to at least get a glimpse of his beloved before going back to Crown Prince Ludwig’s camp.
But he was in a rush, and he doubted that Kael would leave them completely unguarded.
’And there is the fact that Sisi might not like to see me again after what happened back then...’ Marik thought.
He still regretted everything that happened during the blizzard.
Had he been firmer, he would have told Sisi to discard all of their belongings that weighed them down so they could run to Jing Forest faster.
Or he should have just kidnapped Sisi and forcefully brought her to Jing Forest without Jojo, because Jojo was the liability.
He had a specific scent that only the Dusk Star could track, and true to their curse, they would be able to find each other sooner or later.
Marik had a lot of regrets in life. But he didn’t regret, nor hesitate about this war.
In order to have Sisi stay by his side, he had to destroy Kael and everything that he had built so far, so Sisi would realize that the cursed beings weren’t meant to have a happy ending, while they could start anew in Jing Forest with their own small family.
He just wished that Sisi would move on from Jojo once they had their own offspring.
