Monster Gacha System: Becoming The Final Boss-Chapter 142 | Block 7 in the Frontlines
In the frontlines of the southern frontier, the Second-In-Command of the Third Division welcomed the arrival of Block 7 into their Forward-Operating Base. After all, reinforcements were better than none.
Even though they were confident in their capabilities of defending the expanded territories of the southern frontier, caution was paramount when dealing with the Clan.
"Looks like all of you are well prepared." Alastair glanced around, observing the Forward-Operating Base with scrutiny.
Trench lines were formed alongside underground bunkers. These formed the defensive network of the frontlines, separated into three fortified lines.
These were the Forefront, Centerfront, and Rearfront.
Each of these tunnels was connected to the others and could easily be destroyed once the defenders withdrew to the fortifications.
It was to ensure that the Clan wouldn't use their trenches against them.
After all, it would be troublesome if vampires were roaming within their defense network. It wouldn't take half a dozen minutes for the frontlines to collapse by then.
Alongside Alastair, Francine watched the Forward-Operating Base and remarked. "This reminds me of the old days..."
Hearing her words, both Alastair and the Second-In-Command of the Third Division smiled. They understood what she meant. It was about their first conflict during the Revolution.
Despite the metahumans being significantly different from ordinary humans, the combat doctrines of the Federation and the Clan were not that different from one another.
Their addition didn't change or revolutionize warfare in any way.
In the eyes of a strategist, the Jaegers were nothing more than additional special weapons that could be wielded on the battlefield.
When someone speaks of a game-changer, they would be talking about the Paragons or the True Bloods. These were the elites of each species, capable of altering the tides of the battlefield.
Beyond these elites were the strongest of humanity and the progenitors, capable of ushering in a new age. The current age was thanks to Alastair.
Without her, even if the Revolution were a success, warfare would wreak havoc throughout the southern frontiers. Perhaps, half of the Federation would have been lost by then.
"Any intelligence from the lower half?" Alastair inquired, curious about the Clan's movements. The Second-In-Command nodded and handed her a report.
The Vanguard Army had reached the northernmost city of the Clan, the staging ground of the southern frontier invasion.
Its size was over ten thousand soldiers, led by a dozen Vampire Nobles. The Main Force of the Clan was gathering in the rear, rumored to be over a hundred thousand soldiers.
The gorgeous white-haired lady read through the report, her eyebrows rising after hearing about the hundred thousand force behind the Vanguard Army.
She wasn't that bothered by numbers; however, there seemed to be no information about how many Vampire Nobles and True Bloods were participating in the Main Force.
"Nothing about the True Bloods and Vampire Nobles in the Main Force?" Her pearl-like eyes glanced at Second-In-Command as she questioned.
The Second-In-Command of the Third Division shook his head. Their intelligence-gathering personnel couldn't penetrate that far behind enemy lines.
"Alright... I guess the Main Force will be for the future us to handle." Alastair sighed and handed the report back to him. She wasn't afraid of the True Bloods or Vampire Nobles.
But the lack of information was bothersome for the Seventh Paragon. After all, the battle of intelligence between the Clan and the Federation had already begun.
From the looks of it, humanity was losing pieces in the information warfare. It was good at all.
Usually, it would take a week for the Federation and SIGIL's mobilized troops to reach the southern frontier. More when heading towards the frontlines.
It has been four days since then.
If the Vanguard Army decided to attack tomorrow, it wouldn't be astounding at all. At its current state, the frontlines were at their weakest.
The moment the Clan kept delaying the invasion, the better humanity's defenses would become. They might as well halt the military operation if it had ever reached that point.
"Echidna, Hawk..." Alastair called out two of her subordinates, attracting their attention. They looked at her with curiosity, wondering what her orders were.
"I want you to protect the logistics hub of the frontlines. The Clan tends to love infiltration and interdiction. Their hounds would probably target our supplies."
"Fortunately, Damien already has the logistical routes handled." Indifferent commands escaped her supple lips, prompting Hawk and Echidna to nod in understanding.
They walked towards the logistics hub, ready to defend it from whatever the Clan threw. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Francine glanced at her partner, awaiting orders. After awakening her Macrocosm, she had been exhilarated to fight other opponents in the New World.
Now that the war between the Federation and the Clan was about to begin. She wanted to head on first and clash against the True Bloods of the Vampire.
Obviously, though... It must be ordered by her partner.
She had given her oath, becoming the blade of the strongest of humanity. Despite her desire, she stood by her duty to be Alastair's blade.
It wasn't something she questioned.
Before Alastair could utter a response, a Jaeger intruded on the group and reported news about the Vanguard Army. Alastair and Francine raised their eyebrows, wondering if the invasion had already begun.
Fortunately, the report was about something different.
The Second-In-Command of the Third Division read the report and raised his eyebrows. According to their reconnaissance personnel, the Vanguard Army was currently in chaos for some unknown reason.
Devastation filled the northernmost settlement of the Clan, further delaying the invasion of the southern frontier.
He turned his head towards Alastair and Francine, thinking that it was their doing. Sadly for him, they shook their heads as they had no idea about whatever was occurring in the city.
But the two did have someone in mind who could be the reason why the Vanguard Army was in chaos. It was none other than their junior, Damien.
The Paranormal Monsters have already proven themselves to be the best entities for infiltration and disruption. The assassination of the President was the proof of concept.
Though they didn't bother explaining their conjectures to the Second-In-Command. After all, there was no reason for them to unveil a powerful capability to outsiders.
"The Third Division should be able to handle the Vanguard Army. If True Bloods emerged, there's no need to worry. The two of us will take care of it." Arrogance dripped from Alastair's voice.
However, no one stood against it since it made sense.
The energy and stamina of elites should be reserved for forces that were beyond usual standards. Otherwise, if those forces attacked while their elites were exhausted.
It would be a catastrophe for the war.
As Alastair and Francine walked away, the gorgeous black-haired lady smiled and remarked. "It appears that Damien has already made his move against the Vanguard Army."
"There's not much we can do about it. How convenient to have such subordinates." Alastair shook her head, a bit envious of his power to use monsters.
If he wanted to, he could have let his monsters do everything while he sat by the couch and watched television. The best life for her.
Meanwhile...
Atop the headquarters of the Third Division, Damien observed through the Empyrean Overwatch as his monsters wreaked havoc throughout the New World.
One after another, raiders were exterminated. Soldiers belonging to the Vanguard Army were also being taken care of, fracturing their ranks.
Damien opened his status display and watched as his Terror Points reached over ten thousand. The first since his awakening.
It was time to acquire his first Five-Star Monster alongside a few Four-Star Monsters.
