Monster Gacha System: Becoming The Final Boss-Chapter 141 | Growing Terror Points
The raiders that besieged the supply routes of the southern frontier were activated cells of the Clan. They were primarily comprised of Dhampirs and Ghouls, each of which was a dangerous creature for ordinary humans to make contact with.
A couple of dilapidated trucks and cars drove through the desolate wasteland of the southern frontier, leaving a cloud of dust in their tracks.
Inside them were Dhampirs and Ghouls who had received intelligence about a supply convoy heading towards the front lines. Their task was to ensure the convoy didn't reach their destination.
How did manage to do such a thing didn't matter to the Clan. The only thing the higher-ranking Vampire Nobles wanted to see was results.
As the engines rumbled and the tires screeched, the raiders saw the convoy on the blurred horizon. A twisted grin stretched their faces as they accelerated their vehicles.
But before they could reach the supply convoy, echoing thuds rang from the distance. At first, most of them ignored the bellow until a gargantuan silhouette surfaced from the vista.
It stood half a hundred meters tall, a quadrupedal building that moved with grace and ferociousness. The raiders felt their mouths widen as their bodies tensed.
From that instant, a thunderous arc sprang up and unraveled their nearby truck. Explosions rumbled as shockwaves blasted outward.
Without hesitation or delay, they separated into multiple groups, unwilling to band together. Unfortunately for them, it was all for naught.
Several arcs of lightning bolted out from the ground, turning the raiders' trucks and cars into burning hellfire. Nothing was left behind other than their charred corpses.
Their annihilation didn't last any longer than half a minute. And they weren't the first ones in the southern frontier that had tried raiding the supply convoy.
"Quite bothersome fellows." Atop the rooftop of the Third Division Headquarters, Damien remarked while gazing into the expanse.
His sable-tinted gaze was observing everything through the Empyrean Overwatch. By utilizing it, he could efficiently supervise his monsters when defending the supply route.
The problem he faced was the fact that the raiders seemed to be in the thousands. It hasn't been an hour since the supply convoy started heading towards the frontlines.
Yet, hundreds of raiders have already died in the maws of his monsters. These raiders weren't even random weaklings. Each one of them was a Dhampir or a Ghoul.
"Without the Jaegers, the Federation is bound to collapse under the superior weight of the Vampires," Damien muttered to himself. It was an undeniable fact.
For this reason, the federal facilities were established so that most of the human population could awaken as metahumans.
Sadly for them, the metahumans' awakening was a game of chance. No gene made metahumans differ from normal humans. It all depended on fate.
Just as some could be born wealthy, while others live in the dregs of society. Reality has always been a game of chances for humanity.
Unfortunately, the vampires worked at a different scale. They require no fortune or destiny to become powerful. Instead, they relied on the purity of their blood.
The closer they were to the progenitor in terms of blood purity, the stronger they were. It was a matter of bloodline.
Even then, it wasn't as strict as a bloodline since the progenitor could create another True Blood if he wished to do so.
In the end, it wasn't the world that decided their destinies. It was one single being, and that was the vampire progenitor.
Perhaps it was also why the Abominable Cult wanted to create a god of their own. Something or someone that could elevate humanity as a whole into a new existence.
Regardless, however... Damien didn't care that much and was merely doing his job as a member of Block 7.
The Seventh Division should have reached the frontlines by now. As long as the supply routes are properly defended, it would take more than a hammer for the defensive lines to collapse.
"Let's take a look at my Spectres."
His Paranormal Monsters were sent to the nearest city of the Clan, its northernmost settlement. According to intelligence, the vanguard army of the Clan resided behind its walls.
It would become the staging point for the siege of the southern frontier.
"I hope they're doing their best behind enemy lines." He mumbled to himself as he stretched his arms upward. The blurred horizon stretched into the distance as his Empyrean Overwatch activated.
Somewhere in the northernmost city of the Clan, the shadows trembled as unknown entities infiltrated the fortified settlement filled to the brim with vampiric soldiers.
Amidst the dark skies deafened by storms, Yuki stood with grace, her yukata fluttering with the dancing wind. Frost permeated from her body as more silhouettes stood from behind.
The Spectre comprised the Paranormal Monsters under his command. In terms of assassination and intelligence gathering, they were the best. Black operations were also their best utilization.
"Lord Oberon wishes for the disruption of the Clan's vanguard army. Any tactics have been approved by our master. You're free to do whatever you wish."
Her cold yet soothing voice echoed amidst the rumbling clouds. As though responding to her, the silhouettes shifted and faded into the background.
In mere moments, screams and cries echoed throughout the city. The earth shook while the chittering of insects got louder. Everything also became colder.
The northernmost settlement of the Clan was a fortress city that was tasked with supplying the strongholds that bordered the southern frontier.
They were the logistical highway, making them a hot spot and a crucial city in the north. Unfortunately, the defense of the northern settlement was overreliant on the strongholds.
After all, the final bastion was supposed to be the last gate of the northern territories. Instead, their efforts were concentrated on supplies and logistics.
It wasn't a bad choice; perhaps it might be the best.
The collapse of the final bastion alongside a few strongholds was merely unfounded. Even most Vampire Nobles thought of it as but a nightmare.
In any case, the resting vanguard army, which was supposed to take the frontlines, was awakened by the screams and cries of their comrade.
A thick, white fog enveloped the entirety of the northern city. Not a corner was left behind as the sea of clouds shrouded every nook and cranny.
"What happened?" The commander of the vanguard army was a noble. He looked around, his handsome face reflected by the light of his luxurious room.
A knock then resounded from the door as a servant entered. "Sir, we are under attack! Something is assaulting our troops!"
"How? And who are they? Jaegers?" The commander was astounded, unable to believe the words he was hearing. An attack in this city?
The Jaegers should have been busy fortifying their defensive lines. How would they have the energy to attack the vanguard army?
"I- I don't know who, Sir! There has been no confirmation! Our enemies are like ghosts!" The servant responded, recalling the scene when he saw his colleague freezing out of nowhere.
"Damnit!" The commander cursed out loud and left the embrace of his luxurious room. "Issue an alarm! We are under attack! Wake everybody up!"
His commands roared throughout the hallway as the servants followed from behind. The chaos continued as the casualties within the vanguard army reached a hundred.
Meanwhile...
Damien felt his lips curve up as the Terror Points granted by the defense of the logistical routes and the offensive against the vanguard army were significant.
He opened his status display and saw the numbers rising.
