Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!-Chapter 243: The First Time I’ve Lied to You
Seraphina felt around in her bag and frowned, "When I came in, I left my phone outside, so I can’t make a call now."
"Forget it, let’s get out first and talk later."
Zachary Zane smiled, "No matter how powerful someone is, they still need time to prepare. You’re making it difficult for them."
The furrow on Seraphina’s brow deepened. Zachary made a point; if they just barged in, even Ethan Sterling wouldn’t be able to find a solution.
For some reason, she felt that if she asked for his help, he would definitely help, even if he was unwilling at heart.
She asked Zachary, "What time is the execution?"
"They definitely have to wait for me to finish my last meal first." Zachary looked at the half-eaten chicken leg, "I’ll eat slowly to buy us some time."
He spoke sincerely.
To save time, Seraphina decided without hesitation to leave and fetch her phone. She suddenly turned back, "Brother Zack, you won’t deceive me, will you?"
Zachary laughed nonchalantly, "What are you thinking? Has Brother Zack ever lied to you?"
Seraphina felt relieved. Indeed, back on Veridian Isle, Brother Zack had never lied to her.
Gathering immense courage, Seraphina opened the door, confirmed the execution time with the prison guard, and confirmed she had enough time before heading out.
She quickened her pace, eventually breaking into a run.
She was scared.
Scared of never seeing this cheerful, genuine big brother again.
During this time, Zachary finished the chicken leg to the bone.
He looked at the coarse grains of rice with a bitter smile.
Seraphina, it’s fortunate I could see you one last time before dying.
This is the first time I’m deceiving you, and it will be the last.
I hope you can forgive me in the future.
He really didn’t want to see Seraphina trapped in a predicament because of him; otherwise, he would die with regrets.
Seraphina, you must live happily.
Zachary stood up and walked toward the door. As he passed the prison guard, he pretended to trip and fell onto him, discreetly adjusting the guard’s watch with lightning speed.
Touched by someone from Veridian Isle, the guard flinched like he was touched by fire and quickly pushed him away like a walking virus, "What are you doing?"
"I’m sorry." Zachary lowered his head, "Let’s head to the execution ground."
"What nonsense are you saying? It’s not time yet."
The guard raised his hand to check the time and widened his eyes, "How is it suddenly time now? Only two minutes left, isn’t this going to cause a delay?"
"Hurry up! These people from The Law Council can’t even manage time, how frustrating!"
The guard roughly shoved Zachary along.
The execution times are strictly regulated; neither early nor late is permissible, violating it is a grave taboo.
Zachary, bound in handcuffs and shackles, couldn’t walk fast. He was dragged forward with no dignity.
Yet, there was no impatience on his face, only ease and tranquility. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Three people arrived at the execution ground. The guard quickly found the officer in charge of the execution, who walked over leisurely, "What’s the rush? It’s not time yet."
"What are you talking about? It’s time!" The guard showed him his watch.
Startled, the officer hurriedly pulled out his own watch to check the time, finding the difference was substantial.
"What kind of watch is this, running so fast? If we shoot him now, they’ll execute me tomorrow." The officer was also helpless, "Wait a bit."
No more waiting.
Any longer and Seraphina would be back.
Zachary slowly raised his head, looking at the azure sky. The weather was beautiful, the sun warm on the skin. He wondered if the warmth could still be felt after death.
He really missed those carefree days on Veridian Isle with Seraphina. How wonderful they were.
But he didn’t want to stay on Veridian Isle forever, and he had no regrets about the path that led him here.
He had no regrets.
Zachary withdrew his gaze and looked at the chatting officers, suddenly lunging toward the one with the gun, baring a menacing expression.
The officer was so scared he retreated, immediately drew the pistol from his belt and aimed it at Zachary—
Bam!
...
Seraphina used all her strength to run and soon reached the entrance. Panting, she said, "My phone! Give it to me! Quick!"
The officer at reception was a bit puzzled, not understanding her urgency, and handed her phone from the cabinet next to him.
"Please sign—Wait, where are you going?"
Seraphina grabbed her phone and ran, dialing Ethan Sterling’s number as she did.
In the past, she would have forcibly taken Zachary away, without worrying about the consequences.
Even if it meant entering a path of no return, she would never ask others for help. But now, Ethan clearly possessed more foolproof methods.
She stopped by a large tree, clinging to the trunk, breathing heavily while waiting for the call to be answered.
Ethan, help her.
The call hadn’t yet connected when a sudden, jarring gunshot echoed in the sky.
The sound of the gunshot rammed into her heart.
A few birds, startled by the noise, flapped their wings and flew away. The sound was lonely and frightening.
Seraphina stood where she was, her face ashen, looking toward the direction of the sound in unprecedented panic.
Not him.
It couldn’t be him.
Seraphina slowly walked back, and the officer from earlier, seeing her expression, assumed she’d been scared by the gunshot, "That’s the direction of the execution ground."
"Today, a death row prisoner who escaped from Veridian Isle is being executed. Nobody wanted to touch him; now he’s finally dead."
Seraphina’s heart surged with waves as she clenched her fists tight, wearing a smile uglier than a cry, "I just remembered I left something inside; I’ll go get it."
Without waiting for a response, she hurried back inside, ignoring the officer’s shouts.
It definitely wasn’t him; he wouldn’t die. He’s still waiting for her.
...
The sky turned to dusk.
In the Sterling Group’s CEO office, Ethan Sterling sat in front of his desk, unconsciously tapping his fingers on the surface.
"Young Master Sterling, the M Nation Economic Forum sent you an invitation. Mr. Jackson hopes you can attend."
Nathan Ayers meticulously reported his work to his boss. But Ethan sat there, unresponsive, seemingly not hearing a word.
Nathan couldn’t help but look up.
He noticed Ethan’s gaze occasionally drift to the phone placed at the side, the rhythm of his finger tapping growing more erratic.
Nathan was a bit surprised; he had rarely seen his boss exhibit such an expression.
