Mushoku Tensei: Reincarnated as a Beast Race-Chapter 107 - Demon Eyes
Chapter 107 - 107 - Demon Eyes
Rygar was currently in the center of one of the stone platforms of the North God Style headquarters. The place was lively as always, with many people training.
The sound of clashing blades echoed through the area, along with the murmur of conversations and instructions.
Some were watching Rygar and his companion on the side of the platform. He had become quite famous in the capital lately, courtesy of King Leonard.
Eris was about five meters away from him, impatiently tapping her foot on the ground. He had his eyes closed and then opened them and said:
"Come, Eris."
Without wasting any time, she advanced in my direction and drew her sword in the middle of the path.
"Haaaah!"
Then, I activated my eyes. At that very moment, my vision sharpened and everything began to slow down.
Eris, who until then was charging against me with great speed, seemed to be flying in the air. I could observe every detail: the small marks on the blade, the trembling clothes, her red hair flying, the dust that her run generated on the arena floor.
Everything was visible, even the spectators and their microexpressions were captured.
I used Nighthunter to smoothly execute a technique from the Water God Style that redirected the opponent's attack and then deactivated my eyes. Eris flew, and with my defense, she was thrown far away. Before she attacked again, I said:
"That's enough, Eris, thank you for the help. You are getting faster and stronger every day!"
She had an aggressive battle expression, but soon turned her face aside, embarrassed and with a red face, saying:
"T-That's obvious!! That's only natural!"
I smiled. This girl is really too soft for compliments. She's a bit cute.
I activated my eyes again and looked at my hand, observing the magical power. I had discovered many things about these eyes in recent days, thanks to unrestricted access to the kingdom's library.
I could access any knowledge there, which gave me a lot of information.
Eris said, still not looking at me:
"If there's nothing more, I'm going to train!"
And then, she left the training field. I turned to those watching and said:
"You may use the arena now."
Then, I jumped out, while thinking about my recent discoveries from researching in the library. First, the Demon Eyes.
According to what I found, they could come in three distinct forms: either you were a demonic race that was born with that eye naturally, or you received a demonic eye from the Demon Empress Kishirika Kishirisu, and there was a third option, the strangest one.
Randomly, throughout the world, there were people who were born with demon eyes without explanation, without having demonic bloodline or anything of the sort. Rygar was one of them, just like Ghislaine.
Rygar researched a bit about this phenomenon and there were also other cases of births with strange powers, such as supernatural healing, enormous physical strength, or even the ability to control water without using magic per se. These were called 'Blessed Children' when the ability was good, and 'Cursed Children' when the ability was bad.
Rygar had not discovered what the difference was between the cursed and the blessed children compared to those born with magical eyes, but the whole society seemed to treat them as different things.
Ah, that's right. There seemed to be a saying in the Demon Continent about three 'Demon Kings', which went: "Badigadi brings wisdom, Atoferatofe grants power, and Kishirika bestows Demon Eyes."
The first two seemed to be well-known Demon Kings. He wondered if they could have something to do with the other powers people were born with, but it was a shot in the dark.
Well, overall, that didn't matter.
Regarding his eyes, they were a bit different from normal Demon Eyes. They had three abilities that he had acquired recently.
'Acquired' might not be the right word, after all, it was only after he finally synchronized his body and soul in Larax's ambush that he 'discovered' the true power of his eyes.
He saw, felt, and did things completely differently compared to before, but it's not as if these powers had appeared out of nowhere; they were already there and he just couldn't use them.
But back to the main point, the abilities were:
First, the Magic Power Eye, similar to Ghislaine's, which allowed him to see mana.
Second, an ability that allowed him to see everything with extreme detail and clarity, also enabling him to see very far, but it wasn't like the Clairvoyant Eye, it was just like seeing very well.
And finally, an ability that slowed down his perception of time, allowing him to see everything moving more slowly. But that last ability was difficult to access... in fact, all three abilities were hard to use to their full extent.
After all, he had spent almost 12 years with his "defective" eyes.
He wouldn't adapt to his new vision that quickly, but judging by his current progress, he knew it wouldn't take long.
He was running towards the top of the small mountain of the North God Style headquarters, where only Kings and above could tread, while he continued lost in thought.
In the Kingdom of the Dragon King's library, he found a list of all the demon eyes known by the kingdom.
After analyzing them all, besides the Magic Power Eye, he combined his two other abilities with two other eyes: the Sharpness Eye and the Eye of the Fragmented Reflection. He wasn't sure if he was right, but these powers gave him many ideas.
Not to mention the advantage in combat in general, of course.
The main one was that, with this ability, he could use a technique he had wanted to develop for a long time: the Lightning Step! He could hardly wait for that, and this was one of the main reasons he focused so much on researching and testing his Demon Eyes, even though he had so many other things to do.
After all, this would make him one of the fastest beings in the world, but he didn't think he would be the fastest, after all, there was Arumanfi, the Brilliant, in the Flying Fortress of the Armored Dragon King.
Just him was already living proof... or nearly so, since Verdia said he was a spirit, but Rygar wasn't naive enough to believe that in this vast world there weren't others with all kinds of strange abilities.
While he advanced towards the top of the platforms, he began to hear the metallic sound of blades clashing violently.
The noise echoed through the training field, and as he got closer, the sound of battles became increasingly distinct. The impact of blows, the displacement of air, the friction of armor against the stone floor... He could capture every detail.
When he finally got close enough to see the origin of the combat, his eyes fixed on the scene in front of him: Lwis, the North King, was engaged in a fierce duel against Ghislaine.
The beast-woman demonstrated her overwhelming strength, pressuring the demon with impressive speed. Her movements were agile and hard to follow, while Lwis, even though he was a formidable fighter, was clearly on the defensive.
The difference in their fighting styles was very clear: Ghislaine relied on speed and precision, while Lwis trusted in his brute strength and endurance.
At the very moment Rygar arrived at the arena, Ghislaine launched a fatal blow. Her blade cut through the air in a precise arc, aiming directly at Lwis's neck. However, at the last moment, she retracted the blow, reducing its force just enough to avoid a complete decapitation.
Even so, a deep cut opened in the flesh of the King of the North, causing blue blood to gush across the training field.
Lwis staggered for a moment, but then, with a smile, he held his own throat, which was still gushing blood, while his wound healed in real time.
He said, "Hahah, I lost again..."
The demonic regeneration did its work quickly, and in a matter of seconds, only a brown line remained where Ghislaine's sword had passed. He let out a contained laugh and looked at Rygar.
"Oh! Rygar! Your wife is becoming more and more like you!"
Rygar smiled, crossing his arms as he watched Ghislaine catch her breath. He approached her, his intense gaze reflecting pride and admiration.
"I see you can already use the most basic form of the technique..."
Ghislaine brushed her forearm against her forehead, wiping away sweat, and replied with a slight smile. "It's a really complex technique, but... it felt natural. It's very useful if combined with the Sword God Style."
Rygar didn't answer immediately. Instead, he leaned towards her and gave her a passionate kiss.
Ghislaine did not hesitate and reciprocated, their bodies drawing even closer.
There were many nights when Rygar didn't sleep properly, but who could blame him? Any man in his right mind, having a wife like her, would never just stand by watching.
Then, thanks to the mating season, the two got quite excited in bed.
Lwis laughed, crossing his arms as he watched them. "I must say, Red Wolf, this new style you are creating is really intriguing!"
Rygar moved away from Ghislaine and turned to the King of the North. "There is still much to improve. I need to create ways for people to attain initial mastery, but I already have many techniques in mind."
Lwis nodded, a gleam of curiosity in his eyes. "Well, your wife seems to be quite compatible with that. You've only been teaching her for three days, and she already manages to use some application of what you do. Although, of course, she's not nearly as fast as you in that specific technique."
Rygar returned his gaze to Ghislaine, who maintained her serious expression. "I didn't expect so much progress either... Well, Ghislaine, hasn't Eidar returned yet?"
At that time, they also discovered that there was a very skilled dwarf blacksmith under the King's command, so Rygar took Nighthunter to perform some maintenance.
Tsukikage didn't need that, thanks to her ability, she became extremely resilient in battles. In fact, Rygar was under the impression that even without the fire or lightning around, due to frequent exposure to extraordinary heat, the sword itself was becoming increasingly resilient, sharp, and naturally honed.
Eidar, on the other hand, decided to forge a new sword and armor with the Erathium that Rygar was crafting with earth magic.
But the blacksmith was peculiar and said that he should watch the entire creation process, otherwise he wouldn't do anything. Due to this detail, Eidar had to remain in the dwarf's forge, waiting.
Ghislaine shook her head. "No. He's still waiting for the sword and armor to be finished."
Rygar pondered for a moment. "I understand. I will be at the Magic Tower if you need me. If necessary, do not hesitate to call. I'll probably hear it."
Ghislaine confirmed with a gesture, and Rygar walked away, leaving the training field behind as he headed toward the Royal Palace. His destination now was the Magic Tower, where he would continue his research and his study of high-level spells from the Dragon King's realm.
In recent days, Rygar had been completely occupied.
His mind was divided between various areas of study and personal development. He had deeply immersed himself in learning new Saint and King level spells, absorbing every detail of the enchantments and refining his mastery over the spells.
Some he was merely noting down and transcribing to continue studying on the go due to scarce time.
In addition, he dedicated himself to research related to the Demon Eyes, something that had become very important since his own eyes began to change and he had a Demon Eye stored away, awaiting its destiny, the Clairvoyant Eye of Larax.
He was researching the possibility of transferring an ability or even a transplant to another person, but so far, the only one historically capable of doing that was the Demon Empress.
But that wasn't all that occupied his time.
Rygar had finally resumed a project he had set aside for a while: the creation of the Beast God Style. Now that he had a deeper understanding of touki, his view on fighting styles had changed drastically.
With his eyes now capable of seeing the flow of magical power in detail, he began to notice nuances that had previously gone unnoticed.
One obvious thing to know was that each style manipulated touki in a unique way, but even though almost all high-level practitioners knew that, no one could explain exactly how.
For even if there was training directed for each school, there was no one who could see the mana and, in words, describe what properties touki assumed in each technique.
Honestly, Ghislaine could have done that, but she couldn't control her eye, and she only used it in the most basic way, something he also planned to change.
With his Magic Power Eye, he could see.
The Sword God Style, for example, refined touki to make it sharp, clear, and extremely focused, prioritizing rapid execution and the devastating speed of its strikes.
The Water God Style, on the other hand, treated touki as a constant flow: more rigid and firm, yet still malleable, allowing the user to absorb and efficiently redirect the opponent's energy.
The North God Style, however, was an enigma. It varied too much from one practitioner to another. Some adepts focused on the pure amplification of touki, becoming living fortresses or using unorthodox weapons, while others mastered a mutable touki, alternating between different approaches to combat as the situation demanded. Some didn't even rely so much on touki, preferring to complement their techniques with tricks and external weapons.
Now that he understood these differences and knew how to control his own touki, Rygar established the definitive foundations for the Beast God Style.
The style would reflect his way of fighting and his very essence, with three fundamental pillars: movement, senses, and lethal strikes.
Movement had always been a central piece in Rygar's combat. He never relied solely on brute strength or endurance; his agility was what gave him the advantage over more powerful opponents.
At the heart of this concept was Flash Step, a technique that would be essential to the style. The technique would allow the user to move freely across the battlefield, whether to dodge attacks, surprise the enemy with sudden bursts of speed, or find attack angles that were impossible to predict.
The freedom of movement was what made this technique so powerful.
Senses came in second. Although it was possible to enhance the senses with touki, none of the existing styles truly delved into that concept.
Improving hearing, vision, touch, and even smell could be an immense differentiator in combat. Moreover, enhancing the senses also proved useful for investigations and to avoid ambushes.
In addition, all living beings possessed a sixth sense, although some were more developed than others. The beast people, for example, naturally had this instinct more keenly than humans, but Rygar knew that it could also be trained.
Being able to perceive danger even before it materialized was often the difference between life and death.
Finally, the third pillar of the style: lethal strikes. The Sword God Style preached the idea of ending a fight with a single, mortal blow. Rygar liked the concept, but he knew that many fighters had ways to counter that approach.
Therefore, he chose to adapt that philosophy in a more instinctive way. Instead of trying to finish the fight with one single blow, he would simply focus his attacks on the enemy's most vulnerable areas from the start.
His bestial instinct naturally led him to aim at critical spots: the throat, heart, lung, liver, tendons of the arms and legs, and the spine.
Areas that, if struck, would drastically reduce the opponent's combat ability or kill them outright. The aggressiveness and brutality of these strikes made his style devastating and relentless.
With these three pillars in mind, Rygar decided it was time to officially begin the first training of the Beast God Style. The first practitioner? His beautiful wife, Ghislaine.
She seemed to quickly absorb the concepts of Flash Step, an impressive feat considering that Rygar took so long to develop it from scratch.
But Ghislaine had some advantages that he did not: Rygar was there to guide her, correcting her mistakes and refining her movements from the very beginning, and besides, the technique was already ready, while Rygar had to create it from scratch, relying only on references.
Her natural dexterity and talent as a warrior allowed her to grasp the overall idea at an impressive speed.

While Rygar lost himself in thoughts about his new style, his eyes focused once again on the horizon.
The palace and the magic tower were in sight once more.
He still had much to resolve, and he knew he would have to set some matters aside temporarily to avoid dispersing his attention among so many things.
He had plenty of time, but what he learned now would serve him for a long time, and he needed to choose wisely what to focus on at the moment.
And that was: to learn at least the enchantments and details about the King and Saint level spells of each attack school, to learn more about how to better control his Demon Eyes, and to begin a gradual transition in his fighting styles towards the Beast God Style.
