My Beast Evolution System-Chapter 31. Defending The Capital.
"The moment you choose to fight and protect the city, be prepared to accept that you might not live to see your loved ones again," Aaron warned before continuing.
"But if you know this and still choose to stand by my side, then join me in protecting this town. However, if you’re not interested in standing by my side, then you’re more than welcome to return to your home where your family needs you."
The townsfolk exchanged glances and pondered over Aaron’s proposition. It was really convincing and it made them realize just how serious things had turned out to be.
And to be honest, a part of them still doubted whether anything would change if they joined Aaron’s men to protect the city.
Moreover, who was to say the young Baron would be able to protect the city when his late father couldn’t protect the other towns and villages in the barony?
Many of the people had the same thoughts in their minds and this made them realize that they had a high chance of being killed in this incoming beast tide, so wouldn’t it be better to just go back home and prepare for the worst with their loved ones next to them?
Once again, these same thoughts swirled around their minds, but no one really wanted to go back home yet.
It wasn’t because they weren’t scared of the incoming demonic beasts, nor was it because they didn’t want to be with their families, but it was because of the young man in front of them.
And the young man was none other than the young Baron himself.
No matter how the townsfolk looked at it, the young Baron in front of them was the same age as some of their children and most of these children were currently at home, hiding to keep themselves safe from the incoming beast tide, so why wasn’t the young Baron acting like the kids his age, and hiding just like everyone else.
Was he trying to show that he was better than all the other adults in the barony?
Or was he really prepared to do everything he could to protect the capital?
Of course, the townsfolk had been impressed by everything Aaron had accomplished in the last few days and they all acknowledged his efforts as well, so it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the people had noticed the changes in the young Baron.
In other words, if Aaron was prepared to fight for the city, then they were ready to protect it as well.
Seeing the look of determination on their faces, Aaron smiled and then turned to Diana, who had returned from the task he had given her.
"How are the defenses?" He asked.
"The archers are in position, and the barricades are set."
"Good, then everyone should get ready to attack."
Diana nodded in response but noticed the farmers and merchants in front of Aaron. "Why are these people gathered in front of you? Do you want them to fight as well?"
"They volunteered to fight with the rest of us."
"Are you sure about this, Baron? These are farmers and merchants who have never lifted a sword before. They’ll die if things get bad."
"They won’t, and if they are in danger, we’ll make sure that they don’t " Aaron replied sharply, but then he noticed the demonic beasts appearing on the horizon with their crimson eyes glowing ferociously.
The beasts moved as a pack and their presence caused a huge feeling of dread to spread among the Archers and townsfolk as they watched the beasts rampaging towards the gate.
But while the townsfolk’s fear continued to rise by the second, Aaron, on the other hand, showed no sign of fear in his eyes. Instead, he raised his hand and signaled to the archers to wait for his command.
"Wait for it," He muttered to himself and watched as the beasts closed the distance. They were fast and they were extremely hungry as well.
However, Aaron was waiting for the right moment to strike.
The moment the beasts were within range, he lowered his hand and yelled. "Fire!!"
At his command, arrows rained down to strike the leading beasts. About three of the beasts fell to the ground, but the rest surged forward, and their howls and growls echoed across the field, but Aaron and his team were prepared to fight back.
"Diana, take the left flank!!" Aaron shouted, then noticed Aurora joining them, so he turned towards her as well. "Your Highness, focus your spells on the center. We’ll need to slow them down by any means necessary."
Both ladies nodded in response and sprung into action. Diana’s sword cut through the first beast to reach the barricade while Aurora cast a blinding spell that disoriented the next wave of monsters and bought the archers enough time to reload.
Meanwhile, the townsfolk waited behind with spears and shovels in their hands.
None of them knew how to use a sword, but Aaron had ordered them to stand behind the main gates and their task was to stop any incoming beast that managed to slip into the city walls.
With the townsfolk taking their positions, he turned towards Glimmer and hunkered down in front of her. "Here you go, Glimmer. This is for you," Aaron dropped five shiny red crystals in front of his fox, and Glimmer gladly accepted the offering, but Aaron swiftly turned his attention back to the rampaging beasts the moment he noticed them getting closer to the gates.
He didn’t waste a second to join Diana in the battle. His sword moved with a precision that made sure he sliced and struck any beast he fought against.
The two of them complemented each other by making up for their strengths and weaknesses, allowing them to easily take out twenty demonic beasts in less than five minutes. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
The slaughtering of the beasts continued, and Aurora assisted them by casting a fire-based spell that allowed her to send hundreds of fire arrows from the sky and aim straight for the beasts on the field.
Her attack proved useful because she was able to single-handedly take down twenty demonic beasts on her own.
But while the three continued to destroy most of the demons heading their way, a few of the demonic beasts were trying to sneak past them and through the main gates.
