Chapter 32: 32. Glimmer’s First Evolution

However, the townsfolk stepped up to protect the city and confronted the beasts on their own. The archers supported them by sending a barrage of arrows, aimed specifically at the beasts, but it still wasn’t enough because more beasts slipped through the gates while slashing at and attacking the inexperienced farmers and merchants.

A few were injured, but just before the beasts could hurt them any further, a little fox coated in red flames sped through the scene, cutting and slashing the throats of any demonic beast it saw.

Glimmer’s pace was so fast that none of the people could keep up with how quickly she was moving. The townsfolk couldn’t even see who was helping them. The only thing they could see was blood splattering on the floor and deep claw marks appearing on the throats of the fallen demonic beasts.

Aside from all these, they also noticed that the demonic beasts would immediately become ignited by red flames right after they had been attacked, but this only puzzled the townsfolk even more after they saw all these.

The swift killing continued until every single one of the beasts who sneaked into the city had been killed.

Seeing all these, the farmers and merchants exchanged glances, but no one could explain what had happened. However, someone noticed a little fox standing behind all of them.

"Is that...?" He asked as he looked at the little fox behind them, but this little fox had nine tails instead of one and her golden eyes glowed with rage as she scanned the area to make sure she hadn’t missed a demonic beast that entered the city.

"It looks like the young Baron’s pet," A middle-aged man spoke up.

"Huh? But it has nine tails, I thought the Baron’s pet only had a single tail."

"Yeah, it did, but It seems the little fox has evolved into a Kitsune now."

"What? No way. So you’re saying the young Baron has been walking around with a magical beast all this time?"

"Yes, he has."

"But, wouldn’t that mean that he was able to tame a magical beast?"

"Yes, it would seem so."

"That’s impossible. How can a seventeen-year-old tame a wild beast?"

"I guess you’ll have to get used to it. The Baron seems to be able to tame a beast, and right now, that beast just saved us."

"But it still doesn’t make sense."

"It doesn’t matter if it makes sense or not. Everyone in the capital knows the Baron has a pet. So, why are you so surprised to see the Kitsune in front of you? Didn’t you know he’s had the fox with him for more than a week now?"

"I did, but I always thought it was a weird breed of a dog or something."

"Really? A dog? Of all the animals you could think of, you thought a fox was actually a weird breed of a dog?"

"Y-yeah."

"*Sighs* Well, It wasn’t a dog. And anyone could have easily seen that it was a Glimmerfox."

"Well, excuse me for mistaking it to be a dog."

"Well, you shouldn’t have seen it as a dog if you weren’t too stupid to know the difference."

The two men were now glaring at each other and gritting their teeth as well. Both men were completely annoyed by now and were only waiting for the other to throw the first punch, but a middle-aged man with a bigger build came between the two of them and reminded them of what was more important right now.

"That’s enough, you two, we have company."

The two men turned towards the huge ebony-skinned man before turning around to see three dark hounds growling in their direction as they passed through the gates.

The townsfolk tightened their grip on their makeshift weapons, but before they could move to attack the hounds, Glimmer sprinted forward to launch three projectiles of fireball from her mouth.

The crimson flames ignited the bodies of the demonic beasts and all three beasts howled and whimpered in pain.

The crimson flames were hotter than anything they had ever seen or felt before.

They tried extinguishing the flames from their bodies by rolling on the floor, but nothing worked. They even tried biting the flames from their bodies but it was also futile, and all three beasts had no other choice but to howl in pain until the flames completely consumed them.

And with the death of the three demonic beasts, this concluded the end of the first wave of the beast tide.

"More of them are on their way," Diana muttered loud enough for Aaron to hear. The both of them were currently panting heavily with their bodies drenched in blood, but they could see a cloud of dust heading towards the castle gate from a distance, and this meant that a new wave of monsters was on their way to the city.

"It’s getting dark," Diana pointed out as she looked at the sky. "If more waves of beasts appeared in the dark, it would be difficult for us to stand against them all on our own."

"Yes, but it won’t be impossible for us to defend the gates," Aaron replied as he noticed the next wave of beasts approaching.

He didn’t waste a second before barking out orders at both the Archers and the townsfolk, and everyone swiftly did as they were instructed.

A few of the townsfolk stayed with Glimmer to help her fight off any demonic beast that might try to sneak into the city while the rest of the townsfolk climbed up the town walls with spears in their hands.

The archers placed their arrows on their bowstrings and released them, ensuring that they pierced through the horde of beasts.

Spears were also aimed at the beasts, and the yelling and shouting of men filled the night sky as everyone engaged in a second fierce battle against the beasts.

Among them was Aaron who continued to give commands while striking down any beast that managed to breach the line.

"Keep the pressure on!! Don’t let them get too close to the gate," He yelled and everyone followed.

No one questioned his orders, and no one minded the fact that a seventeen-year-old was leading them as well.

Meanwhile, Glimmer darted between the townsfolk and aimed for any beasts that were trying to breach their defense line.

She activated her camouflage ability and this allowed her to easily strike from the shadows where the demonic beasts would least expect her to attack from.
