Chapter 30: 30. Incoming Demonic Beasts.

The group arrived back at the capital, and they were beginning to see the town’s gate as they walked further ahead.

Seeing this, a huge sigh of relief escaped Aurora’s lips. "Finally, we’re back."

"Yes, we are," Diana replied with a smile.

Upon stepping into the gate, the trio noticed the city of El Dorado buzzing with several activities. The farmers had returned from the reclaimed farmlands and brought back the first yields.

The people rejoiced and there were smiles on the faces of the people of El Dorado.

Instrumentalists played their favorite musical instruments and the people danced, jumped, and celebrated.

But despite the celebration happening right now, Aaron and the girls could still hear the sound of blacksmiths hammering from a distance, and this meant that while a few were celebrating, others were completely immersed in their works.

"I’ll be taking the crystals with me to the blacksmiths, and if there’s anything they might need to craft the weapons, I’ll let you know," Diana informed Aaron.

"Thank you, Diana," Aaron thanked her, but just before the trio could go their separate ways, a guard burst through the gate with a pale face.

"Lord Aaron!!" He shouted and Aaron turned around to see a guard hurrying in his direction. "Lord Aaron, demonic beasts are approaching from the north!!" The guard shouted and everyone around Aaron and the girls gasped in surprise.

The happy and peaceful smile on the townspeople’s faces swiftly turned to that of fear, but unlike the people of El Dorado, Aaron remained cool, calm, and collected.

"How many?" He asked with a clear voice.

"A-At least four dozen," The guard stammered before continuing. "Maybe more, but they’re moving very fast."

Hearing this, Aaron swiftly exchanged a quick glance with Diana. "Sound the alarm. Get everyone inside the walls and secure the gates."

Diana nodded and instantly began to bark orders to the guards nearby while Aaron turned towards Aurora. "Your Highness, I’ll need you on the walls. Your magic will be critical in slowing down the beasts."

Aurora’s face showed how exhausted she was at the moment, but she didn’t mind and nodded nonetheless. "I’ll do my best."

"Thank you," Aaron said to her and he watched as she walked away to carry out her task.

Meanwhile, Glimmer barked sharply and her golden eyes glowed with anticipation. "I didn’t forget about you Glimmer," Aaron smiled and placed a hand on her head while steeling himself as well. "Let’s go, there’s so much to do if we want to prevent another beast tide from destroying the city."

Aaron and Glimmer left the gate entrance and Aaron barked orders to any nearby guards he could find.

The bell tower rang out across the town and the deep clangs of the bell echoed in the streets as well. The people panicked but they hurried back to their houses to hide and pray that the Baron would find a way to stop the beast from breaking down the gate.

However, when the realization dawned on them that a seventeen-year-old was about to protect the city while they were cowering with their tails between their legs, they began to grit their teeth and clench their fists.

’What am I doing here?’ A male clenched his fist while watching his wife and two daughters hug each other underneath a table.

’I need to protect my family.’

’I am a man!!’ He slammed his fist on the ground while crouching and made up his mind to play a part in protecting the town he had grown to love and support.

With a determined mind, the man stood up and walked straight to the door, but he suddenly felt a grip on the end of his shirt.

He turned around and his gaze met with that of his beautiful wife. Her hands were trembling, but she knew exactly what he wanted to do, so she didn’t try to stop him.

Instead, she gave him a huge shovel and muttered loud enough for him to hear. "Be careful."

"I will," He planted a kiss on her forehead before leaving the house, but to his surprise, he noticed that several men his age had also walked out of their houses with shovels in their hands as well.

’Are we starting a shovel cult or something?’ He mused to himself but immediately cleared such thoughts from his mind.

In a matter of minutes, many men walked out of their houses with a shovel in hand and everyone was ready to protect their town from the rampaging beasts heading towards it.... At least, they hoped they were ready, but their trembling hands betrayed how they truly felt.

Meanwhile, Aaron climbed the walls and noticed the gathered militia in front of him.

There were only a few knights but they weren’t even up to ten in number.

In fact, every one of them was an archer, and none was proficient in handling a sword. Many were still recuperating and they weren’t ready to handle a sword again, so this meant Aaron would have to make use of what he currently had.

"This isn’t going to be enough to protect the city," Aaron muttered under his breath, and to his surprise, he noticed his townsmen and women walking in his direction with spears, bows, and shovels.

"My Lord," A middle-aged man with brown hair and hazel eyes walked forward and knelt with one knee on the ground. " My Lord, please give us a chance to protect our home," He pleaded and everyone else behind him did the same.

"Please, Lord Aaron!!" They all said in tandem.

Aaron glanced at the farmers and merchants in front of him and began to ponder over what he should do.

However, the middle aged man noticed Aaron’s hesitation and so he boldly spoke once again. "My Lord, this town belongs to us as well. Permit us the chance to do what is right and protect our home from these demons."

Aaron looked at the people in front of him once again, and he could see the fear in their eyes, masked by the courageous look they desperately tried to maintain. So, he decided to give them an honest response.
