Chapter 34: 34. Aftermath.

Well, actually, Aaron had noticed the stag’s presence for quite some time now because, unbeknownst to everyone else at the time, the Thunderhoof had been fighting against a few of the demonic beasts on its own right after it noticed the beasts storming out of the forest to rampage in the city.

At first, Aaron had been doubtful because he didn’t really see Thunderhoof fighting against the demonic beasts due to the distance between them, and the only thing he could see at the time were electrical sparks that appeared from time to time. But he had assumed that it was Thunderhoof because of how small the rampaging beasts were.

Before today, Aaron had heard about how demonic beast tides usually were.

He had heard that most demonic beast tides used to happen with at least two hundred to three hundred beasts rampaging a city.

Of course, the demonic beasts wouldn’t attack all at once, they mainly attacked in waves before destroying everything they laid their eyes on. However, Aaron had noticed the significant reduction in the number of beasts they encountered in the city and now he was certain that Thunderhoof had willingly helped him and the city even without him asking the stag to do so.

’I guess I’ll have to pay Thunderhoof a visit tomorrow,’ Aaron made a mental note of this and since there was nothing else to do here, he and the townsmen returned safely back to the city right after all the demonic beasts’ bodies had disintegrated completely.

As Aaron approached the city gates, he noticed his little sister waiting for him by the gates.

A few minutes ago, while Luna had been waiting for him in the mansion, she had noticed how quiet the night had suddenly become.

At first, she was able to hear the sound of beasts roaring and that of men shouting as they battled the demonic beasts, but when everything suddenly turned quiet, Luna assumed that the beasts must have been dispatched completely, so she came out to check for herself, just to make sure that her big brother was okay.

But when she stepped out of the mansion and didn’t find Aaron, she became worried and feared that something might have happened to him.

So, she looked around in search of her brother, and the moment she spotted Aaron approaching the gates, she hurriedly ran to him to wrap her arms around him.

She didn’t even mind that his body was covered in blood, she was just glad to see that her big brother was back in one piece.

"You’re back," She said in a trembling voice. "I-I was..."

"I’m fine, Luna," Aaron assured her as he hugged her in return, but his body still ached a lot from his battle against the demonic beasts.

He looked around and noticed the tired but smiling faces of the townsfolk as everyone hugged a friend or family member of theirs.

The townsfolk knew that without him, they probably wouldn’t be alive right now to see their loved ones, and now, everyone was looking at him with a look of respect and gratitude.

"You all fought well tonight. No matter how small you contributed to today’s victory, you should be proud of yourself because it was enough to keep those beside you alive." Aaron addressed the weary townsfolk, and a look of pride and satisfaction filled their eyes when the men glanced at their family, who were now standing beside them.

"Tonight, we faced the worst, but we’ve come out stronger," He continued. "Let this be a reminder to everyone that El Dorado is ours!! And no one, I repeat, no one will be allowed to take it from us. Not even the demonic beasts that roam the land."

"Yeah!!!" The crowd erupted in cheers and a renewed hope for the future of the barony and the safety of their lives filled their hearts with relief.

Meanwhile, Luna stood beside her favorite brother with a smile on her face and her chest puffed up in pride. Just like the townsfolk, Luna knew that everyone owed their lives to Aaron now and she couldn’t be more proud of her big brother and the things he had done ever since they lost their father.

Aaron watched as everyone continued to smile and chat with each other but then he noticed Aurora approaching him.

"Are you hurt?" She asked with a worried look on her face.

Even though Aaron had tried to act tough in front of his sister and the townsfolk who now looked up to him, Aurora had noticed how Aaron had subtly massaged his arms from time to time, and this made her realize that he was definitely hurt.

"Just a few scratches here and there, nothing too serious," Aaron replied, but Aurora didn’t say anything in return. She could see that he was still trying to act tough in front of her.

’Men will always be men, regardless of what race they are,’ Aurora said in her thoughts as she approached him to take a look at his injured arms.

Actually, unlike Aaron who saw his injuries as ’nothing serious’, Aurora definitely saw it as something serious because not everyone could have scratches and claw marks on their bodies and still act like it was not really a big deal.

After her inspection, Aurora cast a healing spell to make sure that his injuries healed, and a few minutes later, Aaron could feel that his body no longer ached as it did before.

"You really need to be careful when battling so close with these dangerous beasts," she cautioned, and Aaron smiled and replied back.

"I’ll remember that."

"Good, and try to have some rest, your body needs it."

"I will, thanks for everything, Your Highness "

"You’re welcome, but I’m just glad we were lucky to survive that beast tide."

"Luck had nothing to do with it, Your Highness," Diana said with a firm voice as she approached Aaron and Aurora. "We won tonight, thanks to the Baron’s leadership," she added and the three discussed a bit more before returning back to the mansion to call it a night.

Arriving in his bedroom, Aaron plopped down on his bed with a groan.

Even though his injuries had been healed, his entire body still felt exhausted and Aaron knew he needed a nap right now, but he wasn’t really interested in falling asleep just yet.
