My Beast Evolution System-Chapter 40. Trouble In The Mountain Peaks.
For a while, Thunder continued to ignore the little fox. Instead, he stood tall and regal.
His glowing antlers continued to circulate the electrical sparks crackling around him as he tried very hard to ignore the little fox playing around his feet. But Glimmer was persistent, and she dashed around the stag in circles, yipping playfully and occasionally poking at Thunder’s legs before scampering off.
In the end, the majestic stag couldn’t take it anymore. He made a sound that sounded suspiciously like an exasperated sigh, then he lowered his proud head and took a small step forward, trying to see how Glimmer would react.
Of course, Glimmer was excited to see this, and so she barked in excitement and hopped away while wagging her tail, waiting for him to do the same.
Thunder tilted his head, then hopped forward, but this time, he moved with a bit more energy, and Glimmer did the same.
Seeing this, Luna clapped her hands in delight and she turned towards Aaron in excitement. "Thunder’s playing! Look, big brother, he’s hopping like Glimmer!"
Aaron laughed as he watched the two beasts in front of him. He noticed how Thunder, encouraged by Glimmer’s antics, began chasing after the little fox in slow but steadily increasing leaps.
Despite its majestic demeanor, Thunder moved with a playful grace as he played with Glimmer.
Seeing all these, Luna couldn’t contain herself any longer and she quickly ran into the clearing to skip and hop beside Glimmer and Thunder. "Wait for me!!" She called out while giggling uncontrollably as she joined their game of tag.
Aaron shook his head with an amused smile on his face. "Looks like the three of them are having fun now," He muttered with a grin, but then Luna turned to him with an infectious smile on her lips as she called out to him. "Big brother, you have to join us! Come on, hop like a deer!"
Aaron raised an eyebrow and feigned reluctance. "Me? Hop like a deer? No way! A Baron does not engage in such petty, childish activities," He huffed proudly like the young ’noble’ that he was.
Luna giggled before pleading with him. "Pretty please?"
Even Thunder stopped playing with Glimmer and turned towards Aaron with a look that seemed to say. ’Don’t you dare back down?’
Seeing this, Aaron sighed dramatically, then broke into a grin. "Alright, alright, you win. I’ll play along with your little game," He crouched down and leaped forward in a clumsy imitation of Thunder’s graceful hops.
Of course, his hopping wasn’t nearly as amazing as Thunder’s, and seeing this, Luna and Glimmer erupted into laughter.
Even Thunder gave a soft snort that sounded suspiciously like a smug chuckle, and before long, all four of them— Luna, Glimmer, Thunder, and Aaron were hopping through the forest’s glade with their laughter echoing throughout the forest.
They continued for a while until they were all satisfied. Now, the sun was beginning to dip in the sky and Aaron finally collapsed onto the grass, panting and laughing. "Alright, that’s it, I’m officially too old for this."
Luna giggled and flopped down beside him as her face glowed with happiness. "Hehe... You’re never too old to play tag, big brother. Playing is fun and it brings a smile to everyone’s face."
Thunder stood nearby and shook his body a bit, sending faint sparks into the air while Glimmer curled up beside Luna, looking very pleased with herself.
Aaron looked at the three of them and felt a deep sense of peace and contentment wash over him. Moments like these were what made him so eager to protect his little sister.
Seeing her smile and being happy was all he cared about right now. This was his main goal, hence why he was so determined to make sure that the barony became a safe haven for them.
Of course, he hoped to study magical beasts and learn more about them along the way as well.
And with this thought in mind, Aaron ruffled his little sister’s hair. "I guess you’re right, Luna. Maybe we all need to play a little more often."
Luna giggled and leaned against her big brother while watching the sun set below the horizon.
The four of them stayed in the same position for a while longer before returning back to the mansion to call it a night.
However, before falling asleep, Aaron decided to check out the system notification he noticed while he had been playing with Glimmer and Thunder.
[Congratulations to the host, Thunder’s loyalty has risen to 40%.]
[You have received an additional 10 bond energy points.]
[Your cumulative bond energy points are now 50 bond energy points.]
These were the only things that occurred while he was playing with Luna and his beasts.
Although Thunder’s loyalty had increased a bit, Aaron didn’t acquire a new skill from Thunder, and neither did Thunder.
With nothing else to do, Aaron simply checked a few other things on his status and once he was done, he decided to finally call it a night.
The next morning, Aaron was in his father’s study, checking out a few things on the map spread out in front of him.
He had been reading about some things in one of his dad’s journals, but now, he was interested in checking out a few things on the map of the barony.
However, while he was trying to do this, Aaron suddenly heard the sound of someone knocking on the door.
"Come in," he called out and Diana walked into the room.
"Good morning, Baron."
"Good morning, Diana," Aaron greeted her back, but he also noticed that Diana had something to say to him, so he asked. "What’s wrong?"
"The farmers returned from the farmlands this morning, and they said that there have been sightings of dead frost fang wolves within and around the farmlands." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Frost fang Wolves?"
"Yes, they’re ice-aligned beasts, but they’re usually found on mountain peaks within the borders of Winterfell. However, these beasts are territorial and they never leave the mountains."
"Then, why were there sightings of dead wolves in our farmlands?"
"I believe something must have chased them out of the mountains, so I sent a few scouts to find out what exactly happened in the mountains."
"And what did they find?"
