Chapter 41: 41. Setting Out To The Mountain Peaks.

"The scouts reported that a dark wolf is behind the killings. It was supposedly larger and faster than the others, but unlike the other wolves, this one looked demonic."

"It has been corrupted?"

"Yes, it has, and the farmers are scared. If this dark wolf kills all the frost fang wolves in the mountain peaks, it might direct its attention towards the farmers in the farmlands, and it won’t be long before the capital becomes its next source of meal. We can’t risk allowing the beast to roam around the mountains and Farmlands freely; I believe we have to do something about it."

Aaron pondered over everything Diana just reported to him.

With the mines, forest, and farmlands secured, Aaron had just one more place within the barony to reclaim but to get there; they would have to pass through the mountains.

However, the mountains have been completely dominated by demonic beasts and the frost fang wolves, but the demonic beasts residing in that area weren’t as strong as the wolves, which was the reason why the territory was completely dominated by the wolves.

But now, one of the wolves had been corrupted and it was killing the rest of them, but that would also mean that if the dark wolf continued to slaughter the rest of the wolves, it wouldn’t be long before it became the only one left behind.

However, Aaron couldn’t shake off the feeling of curiosity over why it was happening now.

The wolves have been residing in the mountain peaks for months, so why now did one of them become corrupted?

He couldn’t think of a possible reason why this was happening now, but he knew that it was strange for a dark frost fang wolf to suddenly appear in the mountains.

Anyway, Aaron decided not to think too much about this. He knew there were a lot more important things to think about, like the blue mana crystals he would most likely find in the mountains if he looked for the Wolves’ Den.

Just like every other magical beast within the barony, the frost fang wolves kept mana crystals that were valuable for enhancing their elemental attributes. But Aaron also wished to use it to enhance the weaponry of his territory, hence his reason for heading over to the mountain peaks.

"Very well. Get the horses ready, we’ll be leaving in an hour."

"Understood," Diana said, bowing and excusing herself from the room.

An hour later, Aaron and the girls set out once again, but this time around, to wipe out the dark wolf and any demonic beasts inhabiting the mountains.

Of course, aside from these, their goal was also to retrieve as many blue mana crystals as possible, and with this thought in mind, they set out on their journey.

In a matter of minutes, they could now see the mountain peaks looming over the horizon. The air here was extremely cold; it was so cold that Aaron’s breath was even visible in the crisp air, and the same went for the ladies as well.

Everyone could also see the jagged, ice-covered peak of the mountains, reflecting the brightness of the sun.

Diana adjusted her cloak while Aurora tightened the straps on her satchel of potions as they began to arrive close to the mountain pass.

As they moved along the mountains, the icy wind bit their faces and the rocky terrain was treacherous as well, but Glimmer darted ahead and took the lead.

Her {Scout’s Insight} skill made it easier for her to know if there were any demonic beasts nearby, and if she spotted any beasts, the group would easily dispatch them.

"Watch your step," Aaron warned as he caught Diana’s arm when she slipped on a patch of ice.

"Thanks."

The group continued to ascend further, but as they did so, they stumbled upon a crumbling structure that was partially buried in the snow.

The top of the mountain was filled with glowing blue mana crystals and there were several mana crystals scattered all over the snow as well, but there were no frost fang wolves around, nor was the dark wolf around either.

Well, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the dark wolf had killed all the Frost Fang wolves, but Aaron knew that there was still a slim chance that he could encounter one.

"Let’s spread out in two groups. If anyone encounters the dark wolf first, do not engage in battle against it until we’ve regrouped," Aaron instructed and everyone nodded in understanding.

And just like that, Diana and Aurora teamed up to search around while Aaron and Glimmer did the same.

However, while they were walking together, Aaron suddenly noticed a few drops of blood in the snow that looked like a trail. But before he could think of what beast the blood belonged to, Glimmer spotted something in the distance and growled before letting out a sharp bark while her fur bristled with rage as well.

Aaron immediately went on alert and his hand swiftly grabbed his sword as he tried to discern what could be approaching him.

Moments later, a large, wolf-like creature emerged from the dark part of where they were. The wolf was huge and it growled menacingly, but it wasn’t attacking them...yet.

Aaron read the details in front of him and he could see why the beast was yet to attack. It turned out that the wolf had been hurt and it could barely move, which meant that the wolf had to be the source of the blood trail in the snow.

The wolf continued to growl with rage because it was currently cornered by both Glimmer and Aaron, and it had nowhere else to run to.

The Wolf had recently fought against the dark wolf and it barely escaped from the demonic wolf before finally finding this hiding spot.

It growled once more as it tried to scare both Glimmer and Aaron away. However, neither of them was scared of the beast in front of them.

"Easy boy... We’re not here to hurt you," Aaron cautiously stepped forward and lowered his sword before raising his hands to show the beast that he meant no harm and he had no plans to hurt it.
