Chapter 69: 69. The Basilisk.

The next morning, Aaron and his team continued on their mission as they walked through the forest.

He mounted on Thunder while Diana and Aurora mounted Blizzard, and Glimmer scouted the area with her holograms as well.

While riding on Thunder, Aaron could see everything Glimmer’s holograms could see and this made it easier for everyone to easily detect where any demonic beasts were.

Of course, they were able to easily slay any beast they encountered and this was how Aaron and everyone else spent hours simply slaying beasts.

The recruits accompanying Aaron also had their morale boosted and their confidence were lifted after taking out a couple of beasts on their own.

Currently, Aaron and his team had set up camp to rest for the day.

They’ve been busy all morning, so it was expected of them to rest up this afternoon.

Glimmer was currently curled up on his lap, taking a nap. She had been resting for a while now because of how exhausted she currently was.

However, Aaron had ordered a couple of knights to scout the area in Glimmer’s stead while everyone else used this time to relax and recuperate their strengths, including Aaron.

He was exhausted and he wanted to take a nap just like his beasts but he knew that he had to stay awake to ensure their safety and to make sure a surprise attack won’t happen when they least expected it.

Aurora walked into the room and noticed Aaron staring at the map in front of him.

She sat opposite to him and asked while Aaron was still inspecting the map in front of him.

"Are we really going to fight against a basilisk?" she asked because throughout the day, Aaron and his team had encountered hundreds of beasts, who had been petrified and turned into stones.

Some of the knights, along with the recruits had been worried and scared all day long and this was why Aurora decided to confront Aaron and to try and convince him from doing something stupid like facing against a dangerous demonic beast like the basilisk. "Can’t we just leave Stonewood Hollow for now and focus on the last location. Do we really have to risk our lives against a basilisk?"

"Yes, we have to, if we want to chase away every single demonic beast out of the kingdom," Aaron replied back with a stern look on his face.

"B-but with what we’ve seen today, it seems like this beast is capable of petrifying everyone it sees to stone,"

"Yes, and that’s why I have given everyone the instruction to not make eye contact with the beast when we’re confronting it. The basilisk is not only huge, it also has dangerous, venomous fangs and petrifying gazes and this makes it a dangerous beast that needs to be slain before it grows any stronger than it currently is,"

"I understand what you’re saying Aaron but do you really believe we can handle this on our own?"

"Yes, we should,"

"But----,"

Just before Aurora could say anything else, Diana hurriedly stepped into the tents.

"A scout is back," She said, looking at Aaron with a stern look on her face.

"Just one? What about the rest?" He asked.

"Petrified or better yet dead,"

"Then it has to be the basilisk," Aurora suggested as she stood up from her seat while tightening her grip on her staff.

"Yes, but there’s something strange about this,"

"What is it?"

"The scout reported that the serpent was fast and it swiftly took down three of our men, but isn’t it strange that it let him return back unhurt?,"

"You think it followed the scout back?". Aaron asked

"I think so,"

Aurora’s eyes widened as she gasped after realizing what Diana was trying to say. "Wait a minute, are you saying that the beast intentionally left the scout unhurt so that it could easily trace it back to us?"

"Most likely," Aaron replied as he drew out his sword. "And that means it wants to find out where we are camped,"

Diana smiled and drew out her sword as well. "It seems like we’ve got a smart demonic beast to fight against."

"Who would have ever imagined that a demonic beast could have the ability to think to such a degree,"

"It doesn’t matter if it’s smart or not. In fact, it’s good that the basilisk is heading this way. It saves us the trouble of finding it and we can finally settle this once and for all,".

"That’s the spirit, Baron. " Diana praised and everyone stepped out of the tent.

Diana immediately began to bark out orders to the recruits around them while Aurora began to cast a long elemental spell.

Thunder, Glimmer and Blizzard also stirred up from their sleep and all three beasts immediately positioned themselves in preparation for the incoming battle against the serpent.

"Gather around and stay close to each other!!!" Diana yelled and the knights and recruits gathered around to form a circle with their eyes focused on the forest around them.

The knights slowly looked around in search of any sudden movements from the forest but everything around them was dead silent and not a single sound could be heard.

Even the tweeting sounds of birds couldn’t be heard as well and this could only mean one thing.

The serpent had followed the scout and it was now within the area.

Glimmer had already activated her {Scout Insight} skill and now two of her holographic projections were running around the forest to see if they could encounter the huge beast.

Aaron did the same as well, hoping it would be enough to cover more ground and it was, because it didn’t take long for Glimmer to immediately spot the huge beast and she growled towards the direction of the huge serpent.

She immediately ignited her body in crimson flames and this allowed the knights and recruits to understand how this would be the most deadliest encounter they had ever experienced in their lives.

Now, the only thing the knights and recruits could hear were Glimmer’s loud barking sounds towards the direction the serpent was.

Some tightened their grips on their swords while others had their hands and feet trembling in trepidation.

The forest turned silent once again but it wasn’t for long because the serpent finally emerged out of its hiding, and the moment it did, a screen suddenly popped up in front of Aaron, displaying the beast details.

The basilisk had grey, scaly skin with glowing green eyes but its monstrous size looked even more imposing than what he had expected.

Its fangs were also dripping with venom that were capable of corroding even stones and it had sharp spikes along its back, along with a tail that had a sharp, weapon-like tip.

The serpent charged forward first but Blizzard instantly coated the ground in ice while Thunder summoned a lightning bolt from the sky, aiming straight at the beast.

However, Aaron and Glimmer charged forward as well, with Glimmer launching a barrage of fireballs at the beast while Aaron coated his body in crimson flames but his right hand crackled with electricity and the electric sparks slowly coated the sword he was holding.

However, the basilisk released a concentrated form of miasma from its body which instantly wilted the plants and trees around.

Aurora swiftly cast a spell to prevent the corrupted mana from hurting her, and everyone else.

She also cast a buffing spell that increased the strength, speed and stamina of Aaron and his beasts.

Now their bodies were glowing in a golden hue but the serpent wasn’t done yet.

It charged forward once again, but Blizzard did everything it could to stop the serpent.

However, no matter how hard it tried to slow it down, the serpent quick movement allowed it to easily break any ice that might try to slow it down.

Blizzard also tried coating the basilisk in ice but his efforts were futile, he even tried summoning sharp ice spears and spikes from the ground but the basilisk easily evaded this attack, but because the basilisk was focused on this, it could barely evade Thunder and Glimmer’s long range attacks.

It dodged some but a lot of the attacks still managed to hit its target and this caused the large serpent to scream out in pain, but Aaron didn’t waste a second in increasing the current crackling around his hand and sword.

He instantly looked for the right spot to aim before hurling the sword straight at the snake.

The sword speared through the air but it couldn’t hit its target because the basilisk was fast enough to notice the sword heading towards it.

It leaned to its right, evading the sword but Aaron wasn’t surprised by this because he was still charging straight at the serpent while yelling out loud as his beasts spreads out to aim their attacks from different angles.
