My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 755: Your makeup is smudged, do you want to go touch it up?
The girl looked at Si Bao in shock, completely flustered.
Si Bao was good-natured, so he asked directly, "Are you Xuan Jiayi?"
Her eyes widened. "No!"
Si Bao was confused. "You’re lying. You admitted it at the door just now."
The girl grew even more frantic. "I—I’m a friend of Xuan Jiayi’s."
Si Bao opened his photo album. "So you’re saying *she’s* Xuan Jiayi?"
The girl nodded with great difficulty. "Yes, that’s right."
Si Bao pointed at the mole on her neck and asked, "So I guess you have the exact same mole, huh?"
The girl was on the verge of tears. "I, I, I..."
And then, she really started crying.
This time, it was Si Bao who was at a loss for what to do.
"Don’t cry. Just tell me the truth, I won’t get mad," he said.
He recalled asking her before how her hands could be a bit plump when she looked so thin overall. She had explained that some people just have plump hands but not a plump face. He had actually believed her.
Xuan Jiayi sat down, and amid the strange looks from the people around them, Si Bao begged her to stop crying.
"You’re making it look like I did something to you."
Sniffling and sobbing, Xuan Jiayi explained what had happened. It turned out that a little over two months before she started chatting with Si Bao, she had gotten sick and needed to take medication. The illness was gone now, but she had gained a lot of weight from the treatment. She hadn’t intentionally deceived him; sending the old photos at first had been a bit of selfish vanity. But over time, she genuinely grew to like him. She could have made an excuse to cancel their meeting, but in the end, she decided to just see him once.
Maybe, just maybe, there was a minuscule chance that he wouldn’t mind.
After hearing her out, Si Bao just said, "Oh. It’s okay. If you feel like you’ve gained too much weight, you can always lose it."
Xuan Jiayi shook her head, her expression downcast. "The doctor said I’m at a point where I’ll gain weight just from drinking water."
"It’s that serious?" Si Bao exclaimed.
Xuan Jiayi nodded helplessly.
"My dad’s a doctor," Si Bao said after a moment’s thought. "I’ll have him take a look at you later. Maybe he can help."
Xuan Jiayi managed a weak smile. "Thank you for the thought." She had been to so many places and gotten no results. How could there be such a miraculous doctor?
For a moment, the two of them fell into silence.
After an internal struggle, Xuan Jiayi suddenly shot to her feet, startling Si Bao.
"Well, um, I should get going."
I’ve been in relationships before, but this feels different, Si Bao thought, touching his nose. How should I put it? The girl in front of me is so different from her pictures. But her personality... it’s actually really nice. We got along so well when we chatted. I know I’m not great at charming girls, but she doesn’t seem to mind. She’s just... a good person at heart. His thoughts were that simple. So, why not give it a try?
"Don’t go yet. After we finish our coffee, let’s go get something to eat," he suggested.
Xuan Jiayi’s eyes widened as she stared at him in disbelief. "Why?"
Her question caught him off guard. "What do you mean, why?"
Xuan Jiayi pursed her lips. "You’re so handsome. You... you don’t mind?"
"Oh," Si Bao said. "To be honest, I did mind that you lied to me. But when you started crying, I figured a big guy like me should just let it go."
Si Bao had rarely seen a girl cry. At home, Zhang Yuxi was a strong career woman; he could count on one hand the number of times he’d seen her cry. Needless to say, if he ever got into an argument with Er Bao, *he* was the one who ended up crying. And San Bao, while gentle and soft-spoken, had only ever been seen crying as a child; nowadays, she was mentally even stronger than her second sister. As for Xiao Bao, well, that was just fake crying! Who could make the little princess, doted on by the entire family, truly cry? Besides, she was still so little that crying was perfectly normal.
The other girls he knew had cried, of course, but their tears always felt a bit affected. All in all, Si Bao had rarely seen a girl genuinely cry in his entire life. And seeing a girl cry stirred a protective instinct in him.
With tears still glistening on her face, Xuan Jiayi hesitated before mumbling, "That’s not what I meant..."
Seeing his confused look, she mustered up her courage and asked, "I’m fat. I’m almost 180 pounds."
Just as Xuan Jiayi saw Si Bao’s genuinely surprised expression and was about to burst into tears again, she heard him say, "Wow, I really couldn’t tell you were that heavy!"
Xuan Jiayi was taken aback. "W-Well, maybe I have a small frame..."
If you compared Da Bao and Si Bao, Si Bao definitely had a more youthful air about him. He was almost thirty, yet his smile was still so sunny. Go figure.
Si Bao chuckled. "Oh. So what?" he said. "It’s not your fault you gained weight, and you’re already upset about it. Why should I mind?"
Xuan Jiayi’s eyes widened. Other than her parents, no one had ever said that to her.
*This isn’t your fault. You’re already having a hard enough time.*
Si Bao was the first. Everyone else just told her to lose weight, warning her about how she’d ever find a boyfriend if she didn’t.
All the frustrations she had bottled up recently came rushing back at once. "WAAAH!" Xuan Jiayi let out a cry, weeping with the heart-wrenching sorrow of a wronged child.
Si Bao was dumbstruck. As he awkwardly tried to comfort her, he glanced over at his family.
Why is Er Bao giving me a thumbs-up? And why do Mom and Dad have such proud and gratified smiles?
Si Bao was baffled, but his family’s support calmed him slightly. "Hey, hey, don’t cry!"
Xuan Jiayi was chubby, but she was genuinely pretty. He imagined that if she slimmed down, she would look just like her photos. As curious onlookers stared, Si Bao went from being flustered to simply accepting the situation, left with no choice but to watch her cry.
When she had mostly cried it out, Xuan Jiayi explained between sobs, "You’re the first person to tell me that being fat isn’t my fault..."
"Do other people think it’s your fault?" Si Bao asked, puzzled. "You’ve already had it hard enough."
His words almost made her emotional defenses crumble again. Looking at the handsome Si Bao, she made a firm decision.
"I will lose the weight successfully! Really! You have to believe me!"
"Oh," Si Bao said. "For someone like you who gains weight even from drinking water, you really do need to lose some. It’s affecting your health."
For some reason, everything Si Bao said felt warm and comforting to Xuan Jiayi.
"But with my condition, it’s so hard to lose weight..." she fretted.
Si Bao wasn’t concerned. "That’s fine. Losing weight is a huge test of willpower and endurance anyway. You have to take it slow and can’t rush it."
"Besides, I think this is a medical issue. You should see a doctor about it first."
"My dad’s a doctor. Maybe you should find some time to meet him."
Her eyes sparkled as if they held a galaxy of stars. "Okay. I’ll listen to everything you say."
Si Bao smiled. "Um, your makeup is running. Do you want to go fix it?"
Xuan Jiayi gasped, let out a shriek, and clapped her hands over her face as she dashed to the restroom.
This girl is pretty funny! Si Bao thought, trying to hold back a laugh.
While Xuan Jiayi was fixing her makeup, Er Bao and Qin Jiang decided to head out. As they passed Si Bao, Er Bao clapped him on the shoulder. "Not bad. Keep it up."
He might be a little blunt, but his heart is in the right place. Any girl who fell for him was a good judge of character and kind-hearted herself.
