Chapter 304: Where Dragons Rest

Uriel nodded in confirmation.

"Yes," she said. "The Holy Grail. If the strange magic that binds the essence and authorities of the others to you can bind the transcendence fragments from a relic, you should be able to reach a state close enough to Him."

Aiden thought about this carefully. It shouldn’t be impossible for the system to do that, but there was still one problem he couldn’t ignore.

"There’s no guarantee it’ll work," he said slowly. "And I can’t ask this of the others, Uriel."

"You won’t need to, Aiden. We’ll do it," Syqora said, with a resolved expression on his face.

"What?" Aiden said, his eyes widening in shock.

"Without question," Thyron added. "After all, we sort of already bet everything on you a while ago."

Aiden turned to Thyron with that same astonished look on his face. Then Orlien stepped forward and crossed her left hand through his right.

She didn’t say anything but had a smile on her face that suggested she was completely on board with this decision.

Aiden turned to her as well, his voice filled with disbelief. "Even you too?"

Syqora spoke up in a calm tone. "Sorry we’ve never mentioned this, but our fates were sealed a long time ago. Every turn of events was always going to lead to our end. And if this is how we leave the stage, then we are more than willing."

"But—" Aiden still wanted to protest, but

Thyron immediately cut him off. "This is no time for debates," she said firmly. "We are doing this."

And she had a smile on her face as she added that. Aiden was unsure what to say next but didn’t argue with her further.

Then Thyron turned to Uriel and asked a different question. "How long do we have before the universes collide on themselves?"

Uriel replied, "Give or take a few days using Earth’s time. Two or three the way it’s looking right now."

Then she added something that made everyone a bit more tense. "But Michael intends to use the Key of Ruin before that."

Key of Ruin was one of the Relics Of The First Dawn. Its function was basically a universe reset button.

"Let’s get on with this then," Thyron said without hesitation.

Uriel took the opportunity and quickly pressed forward. "Good. Seems we are all in agreement. Now all that’s left is getting the Holy Grail. Thankfully, I can sense that the gods who it was given to are in this place."

Orlien spoke up then, correcting her assumption. "On the contrary, Aiden’s in possession of it."

Aiden sighe, then laid his palm upward. The Holy Grail materialized above it, glowing faintly with golden light.

"Perfect," Uriel said with relief in her voice. Then her expression grew more serious again as she continued speaking. "There’s also one more thing. If this works, the black dragon’s true enemy is not the Samael of this timeline but the one in the original."

Syqora’s expression darkened at that statement.

"I take it we are dead in that timeline?" he asked quietly.

Uriel nodded. "The monstrous form he gained was too powerful. Shortly after the Black Dragon died, each of you followed. Samael didn’t stop there either, he immediately absorbed the fragments from the gods. Currently, he’s still trying to accommodate all of that power within himself, but it will happen soon enough."

Syqora sighed. "Let us begin."

The others nodded in agreement, save for Aiden, who still looked conflicted about what was about to happen.

Orlien moved first. She stepped closer to him and spoke softly. "Your human side is the strongest thing about you," she said. "It’s what makes you our better."

Then she embraced him tightly, and while they held each other, Orlien’s form started to disintegrate into purple specks of light that floated upward and began merging into Aiden’s body.

A system screen appeared before Aiden’s eyes:

[Orlien’s Essence and Authority Of The Mind is Bonding With The Dragon King System]

[Bonding Complete]

[The Dragon King Has Gained The Authority Of The Mind]

[You have become → Lord Of The Mind Sea]

Aiden’s eyes glowed briefly with purple light as Orlien’s essence fully integrated into him.

When it faded, she was gone.

Thyron walked up to him next and said,"Perhaps it’s time I find rest like Thyrak did."

She held out her arm with a smile on her face, and Aiden held out his arm as well. They clasped forearms in a warrior’s handshake.

Thyron nodded at him, then disappeared into white specks of light that merged into Aiden just as Orlien’s had moments before.

[Thyron’s Essence and Authority Of Creation is Bonding With The Dragon King System]

[Bonding Complete]

[The Dragon King Has Gained The Authority Of Creation]

[You have become → King Of The Forge]

While the others moved along and transferred their essence into Aiden one by one, Syqora had stepped aside briefly for a private conversation with Uriel.

"Do you think we’ll ever see each other again?" Syqora asked.

Uriel smiled warmly at him.

"You’re awfully shortsighted for a being that can see the future," she teased.

Syqora scratched the back of his hair awkwardly and said with a sheepish grin.

"Honestly, it’s been alot like that lately."

Uriel’s smile softened further as she stepped closer to him. "We are eternal beings, my love. We’ll see each other again someday."

And with that said, they both drew nearer until their lips locked into a deep kiss that lingered for a moment before they finally separated.

Syqora had a satisfied smile on his face as he turned away from Uriel and walked toward Aiden.

He placed one hand on Aiden’s shoulder and spoke, "It’s all up to you now, Aiden. No... Brother."

Aiden nodded in acknowledgment with a smile of his own forming on his lips.

And with that final word spoken between them, Syqora disappeared into blue specks of light that merged into Aiden just as the others had done before him.

[Syqora’s Essence and Authority Of Destiny is Bonding With The Dragon King System]

[Bonding Complete]

[The Dragon King Has Gained The Authority Of Destiny]

[You have become → Weaver Of Fortune]

[An unknown dragon Level has been added]

[An unknown Power Level has been added]

[The System has identified a condition required to unlock the unknown rank and power level]

[Condition: Acquire The Last Authority → Transcendence]

Aiden heaved a sigh, then laid out his palm once more, and the Holy Grail reappeared above it, glowing brighter than before.

"I can feel the Grail resonating with the authorities," Aiden said. "As if it wants to merge itself willingly."

Uriel nodded. "Yes, that is a given. You already have seven of the integral parts that make up the Creator. It is only normal that the last part of him will want to form a whole."

She paused before adding something important. "But one more thing, Black Dragon. This power is only going to be temporary. The transcendence fragments within the relic are also acting as fuel, and once that runs out, you’ll lose the relic and the corresponding status."

"Once you have awakened as one whose power is closest to the Oldest One’s... seek out the Samael of this timeline at once and destroy him."

Uriel added with even greater urgency in her voice."The real foe is the one from the original timeline. That is who must be defeated at all cost."

Aiden then said, "You have nothing to worry about," he said with conviction in his voice. "This world shall be cleansed of Samael for good."

Uriel nodded. "I’ll have to take my leave now before Michael realizes I’m gone. I leave the rest to you, Black Dragon."

Aiden then stretched his hand forward. A blue portal opened before Uriel that led back out into space where she had initially arrived from.

She bowed respectfully toward him one final time before stepping through the gateway. The portal sealed shut behind her moments later.

Aiden looked down at the relic hovering above his palm. "I’m sorry, Adam," he muttered. "I don’t think I’ll be able to keep the promise of returning this."

——

At another corner of the Pocket Domain where the gods had been gathered...

The Archons were all assembled close to Adam while the rest of the gods stood in scattered groups throughout the area, murmuring among themselves with visible unease on their faces.

"So what are we doing now, Father?" Umgadi asked quietly.

"We’ll just have to wait until we hear from them," Adam replied, though even he sounded uncertain about what was happening elsewhere in this place right now.

Not long ago, the dragons had left their presence without explanation.

When they returned moments after leaving, they appeared in a completely different corner of the domain, and an angel’s presence followed shortly after.

Of course they were curious as to what was going on over there, but Adam had advised against making any attempt to reach out to them directly.

Thera looked toward that distant direction and muttered softly under her breath.

"Black Dragon..."

——

Moments after Uriel stepped through the portal, another gateway circled open before her, with gold light tracing its edges.

And out of it floated Samael with a devious grin on his face.

"Samael..." Uriel muttered as her expression contorted into a frown.

"Been a while, Sister," Samael said mockingly.

Uriel was about to move past him when Samael made one of his wings spread outward suddenly and blocked off her path.

"You’re in my way, Samael," Uriel said shooting a glare at him.
