My Dragon King System-Chapter 307: The Defense Of Dragonhold
Thankfully, due to Aiden’s earlier warning in the last meeting where rulers gathered, Oberon and Thamoryn had always kept Dragonhold at the ready.
The moment large portals opened up before the gates of Dragonhold and pushed out demons, the response was almost as quick despite it being all of a sudden.
The soldiers at the walls rang bells in warning, and the main gates were forcibly closed. But in the same instance as when the bells were rung, former Captain of the Silver Pegasus guild, Azam, had already moved using his velocity magic.
He was the first to arrive at the walls in a flash of speed, almost in an instant from deep within the city.
Seeing the horde of demons literally made his eyes go wide with shock, and it was then that he realized that these gates would never hold against such numbers.
The best thing was to get everyone out of here before those demons, who were already a short distance away, reached the gates.
He immediately turned towards the first soldier by his left, instantly appeared before him, grabbed him by the hand, and instantly raced down through the walls to drop him some distance away.
His spell, Hyperhaste, let him run at massively hypersonic speeds reaching Mach 500.
Almost in the same instant, he raced back to the walls and grabbed onto the next soldier. Then one by one he continued, racing up and down the walls in a blur.
He had just gotten the last person out and was going to make a return when suddenly he stopped a few meters before the gates as he could literally feel the ground rumble from several incoming footsteps.
He knew they were all coming, and in that moment, he used the Mystic Field spell, which spread out the range of the zone his magic could affect.
Just as the demons and monsters went through that door, Azam whispered, "Motion Breaker."
And for every demon that just passed through those gates, they had their speeds stolen from them, which granted them the effect of slowness or total halt.
But there was only so much Azam could hold against. Right then, thankfully, some of those demons began to lose their footing to the ground.
One by one they began floating upwards by the effects of gravity magic. Azam didn’t need to fight that battle alone anymore because now, Lysandra Crowley had appeared, floating above the scene.
And with her hands raised, gravity took hold, flipping those demons upwards.
The front gates, unfortunately, weren’t the only place demons attacked from. The four walls of the city were absolutely under attack, and lots of demons had gotten in.
But just as much as they got in, mages from all guilds were quickly responding. Some joined the knights of the city to help with evacuation, while some directly fended off against the demons.
——
There was this part of the city where demons had flowed in from, which no one had given immediate attention to as they ran amok, laying waste to lives and properties.
Then, the roar of thunder rumbled in the skies, and a large thunderbolt of lightning hit the ground, spreading streaks and waves of lightning bolts through the vicinity which caught every demon within range.
This bolt of lightning that struck the ground was King Oberon in his King’s Armor while holding a sword in his right hand. His hair had gone white and was flaring upright, signifying he was using the Lightning God Speed technique.
He immediately yelled at a few of the townsfolk whose feet had given out on them due to fear, saying, "Get up quickly and head for the palace." then raised his sword towards the direction of the Wyvern’s Keep.
However, his attention couldn’t be on the woman he had been yelling at as more demons had made their way through the fences, prompting him to turn into a streak of white lightning that struck at each passing demon close by or attempting the fences further.
At the skies above Dragonhold was the Grand Magus Thamoryn, who had just arrived at that spot after destroying a few demons down below.
Right now, she had Mystic Field active. She quickly raised both hands to the skies, which made a large magic circle of light magic form and cover all of the Kingdom of Dragonhold.
Then she whispered, "Find and destroy all that is evil in this place. Devil Extermination."
And right in that instant, countless blades of light magic fell from underneath the magic circles in the skies and struck at every single demon in Dragonhold.
It was practically a rain of light, and this hit specifically all who Thamoryn considered evil.
So despite it being a rain of light, no harm came to the people and mages of Dragonhold.
In fact, this granted some of them a short reprieve. Some mages who were just about to cast magic would realize that before their magics moved from their magic circles, a bolt of light had already struck at the intended demon.
The only condition was, Thamoryn had to maintain the position of her hands remaining upright towards the magic circle for this spell to continuously remain in effect.
On the ground below, Katherine had just pulled out her red sword from the body of a demon she had just slain.
She turned towards Elena by her side with a concerned look on her face as she asked, "Any idea where the girls and Aiden’s fake are at?"
Elena shook her head, and then Katherine clicked her tongue in frustration before turning towards the rest of the guild loosely spread out around and yelled, "Don’t lower your guard now just because Thamoryn’s spell is active. Is that understood?!"
"Yes, Captain!" the majority of them said in unison.
More and more demons still poured out from the portal, and as they entered within the range of Thamoryn’s magic circle, a blade of light would instantly strike at them, moving so fast they wouldn’t see it coming.
But now, lesser demons weren’t the only ones stepping out of the portals. Stronger classed ones had also arrived on the scene.
A few Barons and Archdemons, and they were not as dense as the multitude of lesser demons mindlessly running towards their certain destruction.
A particular Archdemon from a distance beyond the range of the magic circle, apparently of the female gender despite her grotesque looks, saw that the spell was emanating from Thamoryn’s point and moved her hand toward that to cast a spell.
But just as the demon was about to cast a spell, large tendrils pulled at it and sucked it backwards, and into the stomach compartment of Akravos, the Demon Lord of Carnage, who had just stepped out of the portal alongside Morrigan and Malachar, Demon Lord of the Dread.
From within Dragonhold, the air had shifted for the worst at once. The eyes of the mages widened at once, and their bodies immediately trembled as they turned towards the direction of where such magic power was emanating from.
"What is that?" Katherine whispered, barely able to get the words out
.
Elena staggered backward a step, with her face draining of color. Her hands trembled as fear had gripped her so tightly.
"This can’t be real," she muttered. "This can’t be real."
High above in the sky, Thamoryn’s eyes widened as she felt the oppressive weight of the Demon Lords’ presence.
Her hands faltered for just a moment, and several blades of light flickered in the air before reforming.
She gritted her teeth and forced herself to maintain focus, but even she could feel the cold hand of dread creeping up her spine.
Azam’s Hyperhaste stuttered for just a fraction of a second when the presence of the Demon Lords washed over him.
His heart pounded as he turned toward where Morrigan, Malachar, and Akravos stood beyond the gates, and genuine terror filled his eyes.
"We’re dead," he whispered to himself. "We’re all dead."
Lysandra Crowly felt it too. The crushing weight of their auras made her stomach twist. Her breathing was unsteady now, and sweat dripped down her face.
"Stay focused," she muttered to herself. "Stay focused."
——
Malachar turned toward Morrigan and said;.
"From my parasytes once embedded into the minds of these mages, this kingdom we’ve discovered is the one the Black Dragon truly holds to heart."
Morrigan said in calm tone, "Very well."
