Chapter 742

Anton just sighed after his father told him that the Undead Coalition managed to infiltrate and conquer a portion of one of the mightiest kingdoms in the Gale Continent. He had just came into the conclusion that he would have the time to grow since it appeared to him that the Ormunda and New Drennor were extremely powerful kingdoms that would not be defeated lightly, and now all that realization vanished like mist. He even thought that the Undead Coalition would run away in defeat sooner or later. He should not have underestimated the power and ambition of the enemy organization.

Anton did not intend to run to New Drennor to fight the undead immediately. According to his father, the coalition was stuck deep within the body of the kingdom of New Drennor, like a malevolent cancer, and the kingdom's powers that be were just letting it be to avoid a great battle that would devastate New Drennor.

“According to the information that we’ve managed to garner, the fight against the Coalition was still ongoing. New Drennor is recruiting fighters again against the enemy, but the battle has shifted to inside the kingdom. At the very least, according to some rumors, which we can’t guarantee is real, the wizards of New Drennor had prevented the liches from forming a spatial gate inside their territory.” 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Anders and Anna saw that Anton was contemplating the information that Anders had revealed.

“What are your plans?” Anna asked, but before Anton could answer, everyone arrived.

Once the family members had settled down, Anders started the meeting.

Anton’s father told everyone the reason why Anders was invited by the wizards of Ormunda to go to the guard station, which was about the portal. Everyone in the manor already knew about the portal since Anton and Anders did not actually make an effort to hide it, since they thought that it was futile. It meant that they knew that sooner or later, the information about the portal would inevitably spread.

Anders told everyone that since the wizards found the portal extremely limited, they just required the family to hand over all of the portal scrolls that Anton had already created. Anton’s father told everyone that the agreement was that the family would hand over 20 portal scrolls each month, and thankfully, the wizards would pay 500 gold coins each for the scrolls. In return for agreeing to the wizards’ proposal, the family would receive the plaque of protection, which meant that the family’s businesses would now be under the protection of the kingdom.

“We are now going to talk about the main reason for this meeting. I am now considering whether we should run away. Let me explain the reason for that. You know how special Anton’s magic is, and everyone agreed that he is extremely powerful. All the things that we’re enjoying, the wealth, power, and privilege that we currently have stemmed from that power. When we were in the ocean aboard the ship Amelia, one of the Invincible Wizards who was protecting the ship grew interested in Anton’s power and planned to capture him against Anton’s will to study his magic. We knew that meant that harm would befall Anton, and we can’t run because we’re in the middle of the ocean. That meant that if Anton did not want to be enslaved or killed, he would have to fight that Invincible Wizard. The problem with that was that the wizard was not alone, and even if Anton fought, it would mean the destruction of the ship, which would kill everyone. Before anything else happened, the Undead Coalition caught up with us and destroyed the ship. Everyone died except for me, Anton, and Anna, and that was only due to Anton’s magic.”

Anders paused and drank some of the tea that one of the maids had served to wet his throat and continued.

“We’re now supposedly under the protection of the wizards and could thrive in the kingdom as long as Ormunda remains safe from the Coalition, but we’re thinking that sooner or later, one of the wizards might get into his mind to capture Anton for his magic, which would mean the destruction of the family. What do you all think?” Anders asked everyone.

Anton saw Alfred and Luna looking scared, and for a moment, he felt sad about that. He wanted the two to keep enjoying their lives and not to suffer anymore. As a matter of fact, he hoped that everyone would finally have that safety.

Surprisingly, it was Anna who presented her opinion about the matter.

“I don’t believe that what happened aboard the ship would happen here in the kingdom. We were isolated in the middle of the ocean, and that meant that a powerful wizard could behave like a king or queen there, and no one would question them. Here, every movement of each of the most powerful wizards in Ormunda is under the scrutiny of their peers. They could not just capture a powerful Supreme Rank wizard like Anton willy nilly, not unless they had reached the rank above the Invincible. Given Anton’s power, it would not be easy to capture him now without causing a massive noise, and given that his rate of acquiring power was extraordinarily fast, wizards would hesitate to become his enemy, especially since those in the know knew that Anton specializes in combat. Also, don’t forget that New Drennor and Ormunda are currently at war with the Undead Coalition, and that means that the powerful mages of both kingdoms are currently very busy. Studying magic like Anton’s would only be possible in a peaceful era.”

“Not only that. Both father and I are also growing in power, so I conclude that we’re currently safe to remain here. Besides, it’s easy enough for us to run with the power that we have if worse comes to worst,” Anna added.

Romina and the rest of the family agreed with Anna. Anton and Anders knew that the other family members only agreed because their businesses were there and everyone was having a good time, but everyone saw that Anton and Anders agreed with what Anna had said.

The meeting concluded with Anders announcing that the family would stay in Ormunda and that, for now, the family was safe. That meant that it would be business as usual.

Anton also answered Anna’s question regarding what his next plan was.

“I’m planning to continue traveling. I don’t think that my joining the fight against the coalition would cause a significant impact.”

After that, everyone went to continue doing what they were doing that day. Anton saw that Alfred and Luna were still afraid, so Anton’s father went to comfort the two. Anna told Anton that in a week, she would be returning to the academy.

“I think you’re correct, brother. The best thing that we can do right now is to continue to grow our power. I think you’re correct that ultimately, we will need to rejoin the fight against the Coalition, but when that time comes, we will have the power to contend with them,” Anna said, and Anton could see the sparkle of ambition in his sister’s eyes.

Anton informed his father and Anna that he would be returning to the Northern Forest, since he did not tell anyone there that he would be leaving. He still wanted to acquire everything that he ordered from the elven craftsman there, as well as the spellbooks that were promised to him.

Anna told Anton that once she returned to the academy, she would only be back after a couple of months.
