My Life In A Fantasy, Women-Dominated World-Chapter 132: Everyone Makes Those.
"May their souls rest in peace." Vyra said while holding back her tears.
"May their souls rest in peace." The remaining survivors of the mimic incident murmured after her, bowing slightly, each with their own expression.
Jaq was on one extreme, feeling normal about it all as if she was all too used to death. While the Sanguini sister was on the other extreme, kneeling in front of a grave, weeping uncontrollably.
All the rest of the people stood in between these two extremes, with Claire and the other Sanguini members feeling a little more grief than the rest.
Once the burial and respects to the dead were paid, the Sanguini women requested Claire’s cohort to help them hunt down 10 tombats as well, since they were understaffed and not in the proper condition to fight.
The team was resistant to the idea, but they had to give up when Vyra mentioned that she wouldn’t touch a single dime from this mission’s earnings and would use it to help out the dead’s families.
It also played a major role that Claire was the leader and she was already blaming herself for this tragedy, which made it easier to convince her.
As everyone knew, if Jaq were the leader she would’ve dipped in an instant, telling them that she was sorry but their team needed their rest.
But oh well, none of the team members were against Claire’s decision and in all honesty, with Jaq’s reflexes and skills, the task barely took an additional half an hour to finish.
With the tasks and bad blood behind them, the two groups went their separate ways as Claire’s team divided amongst themselves into the cars.
The charred corpse of the mimic was also safely stored in the SUV’s trunk since it was an expensive trophy, even if most of its materials were more useless than a fart in the wind.
Aaron once again grabbed the wheel and told Claire to sit in the back and relax, while Eva snagged the passenger seat.
"Are you okay, Clay?" Eva asked gently while looking at the backseat.
Claire was lying across the whole seat, her expression the famous poker face and a pack of chips resting in her hands.
"Yes." She replied.
"And the truth is?" Aaron asked, turning back and smiling at her, before refocusing on the drive.
"That’s the truth. I am fine. I am content that nothing happened to us, and I vowed to myself that I would not be greedy anymore."
"You weren’t being greedy, love. It was our fault indeed, but it wasn’t completely ours. They rushed in blindly as well." He shook his head, speaking calmly.
"A mistake is a mistake, Aaron. Small or big." Claire retorted.
"Everyone makes those."
"Yes, Clay. Everyone makes mistakes, what’s important is that you learn from them. And you already did." Eva added to Aaron’s words, trying to pet Claire’s head only to get her hand slapped away.
"I guess you’re right. Also, what will be our room split?" Claire changed the topic, no longer wishing to talk about her rising depression and unsure feelings.
"I guess sleeping with Eva in our room would make it weird." Aaron coughed, side-eying Eva to wordlessly ask her thoughts on it.
"She made it weird enough by hugging and snuggling against you." Claire scoffed. "Lia was staring at me like, ’you cool with that shit?’, hah."
Eva’s face flushed, her cheeks getting rosier. "I- I was just worried..."
"Yeah sure, a worried ’friend’ loves to snuggle close to her best friend’s boyfriend~"
Claire especially stressed the word ’friend’, making Eva’s brows furrow. "I am not just his friend."
"Oh? Then what are you?"
"I am–"
"Ah wait, I think Jaq’s saying something, lemme just connect the audio systems, you keep going." Claire interrupted, tapping on her phone with exaggerated motions.
"Stop it." Eva grunted in annoyance, turning off the audio system of the car from the front.
Aaron could only adopt the poker face technique of Claire, knowing that he would be pissing the black-haired busty beauty even more if he laughed at Claire’s antics.
Amidst the chaotic bickering, Aaron’s sedan and Jaq’s SUV pulled into the UHRA building’s parking lot.
Countless vehicles were already parked around, some raiders pushing along a few metallic carts filled to the brim with monster materials.
"I will get it for us." Katie cheered, thinking about the rest they could finally get after the long arduous day as she ran towards a queue of carts and pulled two out.
Then she ran back and rolled one over to Claire while taking the other towards Jaq’s SUV.
In just a few minutes, both carts were filled with countless monster materials, conquest proofs, and finally the mimic’s corpse...
The third item required an entirely new cart just to be carried, and even after death, his charred scales gleamed slightly under the light, emitting a mysterious power.
After all, he was on an entirely different plane of existence when compared to the other lowlifes they had slain.
Even the minotaur couldn’t compare to the mimic in rarity as well as strength.
One was a mass-bred race for wars, while the other was a grim reaper crafted in the deepest pits of the underworld.
Aaron was given the novelty of pushing the cart that carried the mimic’s corpse, since he was the one that technically earned them this treasure.
Otherwise they had no doubt that Scarlet would’ve pulled the corpse into her inventory even if she had no need for it.
Why bother giving freebies to a bunch of troublemakers who disturbed her peace in the middle of the night?
She was old and experienced enough that a couple of gruesome deaths weren’t even enough to faze her. Of course, as long as none of those deaths were personally related to her.
The amount of carts and peculiar hunt materials earned Claire’s cohort quite a few glances, mainly due to Aaron’s entire existence.
Firstly he was a man, which was a shocker in its own right. And secondly, he was carrying a darkened corpse that screamed of power!
And indeed, once they reached the official in charge of inspecting the loot and marking the tasks complete, she nearly screamed in surprise.
"A MIMIC’S BODY?!"
