My Werewolf System-Chapter 1394: Enter Slough (Part 1)
Chapter 1394: Enter Slough (Part 1)
“And you said you were a good driver!” Innu shouted. “Can you drive this thing straight? Because of you, I dropped the phone and it flung out of my hand!”
Austin was riding the motorcycle down the highway. They had just gotten off the main route and moved from a four-lane to a two-lane road, which meant they were getting close to the city.
In around ten more minutes, they would reach the outskirts of what was considered Slough. However, they were both dealing with a serious problem before they even got there.
With possible threats coming from behind them, Innu had spun around in his seat so he could look at the fleet of cars tailing them, while Austin remained focused on driving. Still, he couldn’t help but glance at the wing mirror, just in time to see Luzen, standing in one of the vehicles, aiming his bow directly at them.
Luzen fired arrows that were nearly invisible to the naked eye. He was clearly trying to hit the motorcycle and take them both out.
Quickly, Austin was forced to swerve the bike side to side to avoid getting struck.
He was doing a good job. Even while driving, he was timing his movements to when he saw Luzen pull back the bow. He couldn’t see the arrows, but he could hear them cut through the air, and their path seemed to be a straight line.
“If I don’t move like this, then he’s going to hit us! We’ll both go flying and skidding across the floor, and then that whole pack of werewolves waiting in those cars will jump on us and rip us apart! Is that what you want?!” Austin shouted back. “Besides, what kind of weak grip do you have that you let go of the phone? Couldn’t you have used your telekinesis powers to bring it back to your hand?”
It had happened a bit too fast for Innu to react, and by the time he’d even thought to use his powers, the phone had already crashed to the ground and shattered. It clearly wouldn’t work again, and they were too far away now for him to retrieve it.
Luzen continued firing several arrows one after another. Revving the bike, Austin remained focused as he carefully avoided each one.
“They’ve got quite a good driver,” Luzen mumbled to himself. “But they can’t keep this up forever.”
“Why don’t you do something and get rid of that guy!?” Austin yelled.
Innu was inclined to agree. He threw his axe out in an arc from the side of the bike, guiding the weapon with his powers as it sped cleanly toward Luzen. At the last moment, Luzen spun his body and narrowly avoided the axe.
It hadn’t hit him. Instead, he fired off another series of arrows.
The axe, still under Innu’s control, weaved erratically through the air until it made its way back into his hand.
“Man, I’ve gotta admit, that was pretty smooth from him,” Innu muttered. “Unlike this ride I’m on.”
“Can’t you do something else? Like use your powers to stop his arrows, like you did with those nails!” Austin shouted.
“That’s not going to work!” Innu replied. “There’s no physical object, he’s just firing energy at us! So my powers are useless in this situation!”
“Then what about using your powers to take his bow!?” Austin was now just shouting out random suggestions.
Still, Innu figured it was worth a try.
A strange force began to pull slightly on Luzen’s bow. Feeling the tension, Luzen quickly yanked it back.
‘I’m never going to win in a battle of strength, his raw power is too much for me,’ Innu thought. ‘Wait… maybe that didn’t work, but I can think of something else that might.’
Innu flung his axe once again, doing his best to ignore Austin’s zigzagging movements. Because of the bike’s weaving, it made it look like Innu’s throw had gone off course and completely missed its target.
But that wasn’t the case.
The axe crashed through the window of a car driving beside them. After shattering the glass, it continued through, hitting the driver cleanly in the head, killing the man instantly.
It was a forceful, unexpected throw, packed with Qi. And at Innu’s current level of strength, it wasn’t surprising that even a single blow could kill a werewolf. It certainly wasn’t his first time fighting them.
Just then, as the axe returned to Innu’s hand, he used his other hand to activate his powers and forcefully turned the steering wheel of the now driverless car.
The car swerved violently and slammed into the one Luzen was currently riding on. The impact drove the second vehicle into the guardrail, lifting it partially off the ground.
With the added speed, the car flipped over the rail and rolled upside down, skidding across the pavement.
As for Luzen, he was completely fine. He had leapt off at just the right time, landing squarely on the roof of another car still charging ahead in the convoy.
The crashed car did slow the others down a bit, as the vehicles behind had to carefully swerve around the wreck.
It gave Austin just enough distance to pull ahead.
“You know what? That was really smart,” Austin said. “I think that might have been the first time you actually used your head.”
“Right, and I used it the right way. Not like you, who uses it for actual fighting,” Innu replied.
In a desperate situation, he was willing to try anything. It was just a shame that Luzen hadn’t been taken out too.
As they looked ahead, it became clear that Luzen wasn’t done.
His body began to change.
Fur sprouted and spread across his limbs. His muscles expanded, and a monstrous snarl ripped from his throat as his transformation completed.
This was Luzen, the Ironfang, and there was a reason he had been chosen to lead the charge.
