My Wife is a Dead Villainess, and I'm Her Living Weapon-Chapter 240: Immortal

The skies rumbled with the sound of war, metal clashing against metal, explosions shaking the air, and formations charging. In mere moments, hundreds of thousands poured from the black spot.

Yet no matter how many came, Ned and Charlotte, along with the Fourth Legion, held them back. The dozens of gigantic knights and the thousands of smaller golems formed a breakwall that the enemy could not breach.

Despite the vast numbers of monstrous golems, they were all cut down and torn apart. Funnily enough, Elian noticed that his army dominated their opponents. Weapons were strong physically, but another facet of their immortality was the ability to move around their core.

In theory, so long as the core was unharmed, the Weapons of Valestra, much like Elian, would never die no matter how many times their bodies were destroyed. He himself abused this tactic to defeat powerful opponents.

Everything from transferring his core to a smaller body, hiding it in Golem Lake, and even relocating it in the midst of battle. The methods differed, but the main principle persisted. And his faction all leveraged this knowledge, turning them into an almost immortal army.

However, the Weapons of the End had no such ability. When the bodies were destroyed once, they ceased all movement. They acted truly like automatons or golems in fiction.

"Fluffy, the Weapons of the End…"

"Are stupid. It's the only reason why we can fight on even ground. Burny says it's because they no longer have souls. They act like machines; they do not protect their cores and suck at adapting."

"We're lucky there is only one entrance," Elian sighed in relief.

Burny shook his head before adding, "Unfortunately, that is not the case, Sir Elian. When provoked, the Weapons of the End swarm like ants. I assure you, there are thousands of those gates all over the planet."

"DO NOT WORRY, MY TYRANT! YOUNG NED AND THE FOURTH LEGION ARE STRONG! THEY GUARD NOT JUST EARTH BUT THE VALESTRA EMPIRE."

"You named an empire after me?" Bianca asked in disbelief.

"Who else would we have named it after, Daughter? Considering how doting your husband is, he would have rejected all other names. Just be glad it isn't the Bianca Empire."

At Silent's comment, Bianca blushed while sneaking a glance at Elian.

"On second thought, the Valestra Empire is way better than the alternative," she said sheepishly.

While the stupid topic released some of the tension, Elian felt the urgency of the situation. The only way to stop the army of the End was to kill their leader. So rather than killing the automatons, getting to Ereval was the priority.

"Time to leave."

As Elian was about to depart, Fluffy forcefully grabbed his shoulder.

"Not yet. You need to see what comes next."

"Is this important?" Elian snapped.

"Not really, but you lack an understanding of why Charlotte is the Anchor of Earth. Much like us, the Psychomancers have not been idle."

Before Elian could reply, the battlefield underwent a major change once more.

The light coming from Charlotte's body suddenly grew in intensity. It was to the degree that one could not even look at her without going blind. Like a second sun, the brilliance radiating from her rapidly shrank the darkness encroaching.

It was like watching the dawn drive out the night. But then a golden ball of light rose up from the ground and appeared in the sky. Like fireflies, the thousands of glimmering souls raced toward Charlotte.

Within the same moment, a deafening impact echoed. Ned slammed his foot to the ground and raised his hand. Then Anchor and Tyrant of Earth's voices overlapped.

"AWAKEN"

Immediately, the ground turned snow white, and from it rose white sculptures inlaid with gold. They were identical to the forces accompanying Ned. Within the same moment, the golden fireflies fell down like a shower of meteors and fused with the army of white.

The new Weapons of Valestra then all opened their eyes, which burned like wildfires. However, unlike their original color of bright orange, the white army now had eyes that glowed azure. Each new Weapon fashioned armaments from the white ground and jumped into battle the next moment.

"FOR THE VILLAINESS! FOR THE LIVING WEAPON! FOR OUR HAPPY ENDING!"

Their trio of chants created an earth-shattering roar that made the entire area quake. With their arrival, whatever gaps Ned's army had in the beginning were plugged. Thousands arrived and not only bolstered but also elevated the battle line.

Some of the giant knights vaulted over Ned's group and wreaked havoc in the middle of enemy formations.

"What the hell? How?"

The combination skill, Arise, was something Elian and Bianca created together. Using the abilities of Weapons and Psychomancers in tandem, it was a resurrection skill that forcefully reincarnated any biological soul into a pre-made golem.

It had the potential to reinforce one's allies, demoralize the enemy, and transform the battlefield all at once. Its only weakness was that you needed a lot of required dead souls lingering before it would have any effect.

But at the moment, there should not even be a single soul present. At least not from this battlefield.

"It is as Lady Fluffy has said; we have not been idle. We all gained the fourth job, Soul Reaper. It allows us to store souls for later use," Burny explained with pride.

Elian was about to complain but saw the expression on his wife's face.

"My love, look at them! Our children are so majestic, so powerful, so noble. How wonderful! To think they have gained such power! It's amazing!"

Feeling that picking apart the moral nuances of holding souls hostage would only sour the mood, Elian held his tongue. "Yeah. They're amazing. But why are they calling us by those titles?"

"Why else do you think, Son-in-law? These souls do not know you as Elian and Bianca, nor do they know of your new identities. They only know of your legend: The Dead Villainess and her Living Weapon. The most noble pair of heroes the universe has ever known." Silent giggled.

The straightforward compliment made Elian feel weird. Bianca similarly blushed in embarrassment as she watched the white army fight with excitement. She turned to Silent with wide eyes.

"Then the part about our happy ending?"

"It's the same promise you made to each other. As Sons and Daughters of Metal and Soul, how could they not aspire to fulfill the ultimate wish of their parents?"

Bianca bit her lip as she made a tearful expression. Her body trembled as emotion overwhelmed her. Raising her hand, the Anchor of Hope's body glowed much like Charlotte's. A surge of mana exploded out of her, radiating outward like a wave.

Her voice then rumbled all over the battlefield like thunder during a powerful storm.

"OH, BRAVE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF VALESTRA, I HAVE WITNESSED YOUR VALOR AND STRENGTH! I VOW TO YOU ON THIS DAY; THIS NIGHTMARE SHALL END. BY MY COMMAND, LET NO CHILD OF MINE FALL UNTIL A THOUSAND PERISH BENEATH YOUR BLADES!"

A golden light enveloped every single weapon and then began to shine as they did battle. Along with Elian, Fluffy, Burny, Silent, the human Breakers, and the Fourth Legion, a system notification appeared.

[Alert: The Anchor of Hope has invoked a soul buff on the entire faction: Immortal. Immortal - any and all damage received by a member of the Weapons of Valestra faction will be negated until said member has claimed at least a thousand enemy souls.]

"!!!"

When the light radiating from Bianca dimmed, she turned to Elian with a satisfied expression.

"My love, let us move. I wish to reach Ereval if even a second sooner."

Bianca's face, although smiling, turned pale. Her body shivered slightly as she tried to remain strong. Knowing her true state, Elian immediately supported her and gently wiped the sweat from her brow.

"As you wish, my Anchor."

Turning to Woody and the human Breakers, Elian stomped on the ground and manipulated the atoms in the air to carry his voice.

"Second Legion, Army of Earth, I command you all, escort the Anchor and I to Ereval." He allowed his gaze to wander over the massive army ready to fulfill his every command to the letter. "Kill anything standing in our way."

"YES, MY TYRANT! "YOUR WILL SHALL BE DONE!""

At Elian's command, the large army moved. Woody transformed back into a starship and ascended into the sky; the insects and monsters around him followed; they were so numerous that they looked like a plague of locusts.

Burny transformed into a large scarlet phoenix. His mane and tail were all lit aflame, which made his true form all the more majestic. Sunny and Fluffy quickly climbed onto his back, and the three of them soared into the upper atmosphere.

The humans quickly boarded their ships. Elian could hear the engines of the sci-fi-looking spaceships come to life. While the Second Legion hurried to leave the planet, Elian looked at his wife. She might have surrendered her weight to Elian, but her eyes remained glued to the ongoing battle.

Her eyes burned with a fierce determination as she declared to Elian.

"We need to end this, my love. We have to. No matter what."

Squeezing her hand, Elian reassured her.

"No matter what," he agreed.
