Chapter 255: Chapter 249: Aurora, Can You Throw That Farther Away?

Intimidated by Aurora Sinclair’s display of force, the men who had participated in the brawl were locked back in their cells.

The others stood obediently on both sides of the corridor, their eyes fixed hungrily on the food cart she pushed toward them.

The food on the cart consisted of things like high-calorie compressed biscuits. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Each person received two pieces, no more and no less.

After they finished eating, Alvin Morgan activated the elevator to the outside and brought the group to the surface.

The sky outside was already pitch-black. The brilliant Milky Way was so clear it seemed utterly spotless, like holy water washing over their souls and soothing much of the violent tension that clung to the group.

Alvin Morgan used Aurora Sinclair’s watch to get a new location fix and sent a signal to the Black Wolf Mercenaries.

"Someone will come to pick you up and take you to a safe place." He used the watch to broadcast the message in more than ten languages, ensuring everyone understood.

Someone asked, "Is it a new home? Will we starve to death again?"

Those who understood looked toward Alvin Morgan, a glimmer of hope in their eyes, flickering like candlelight in the dark.

But Alvin Morgan just shook his head.

"A home is something you build for yourselves, not something given as a handout."

The light in some people’s eyes dimmed. Others grew furious. And then there were those who, only half-understanding, kept that flicker of hope alive.

Alvin Morgan gave Mia a fully loaded gun and told the crowd that their rescuers would only recognize Mia. If they wanted to live, they had to ensure she stayed alive.

Mia felt a sting in her nose and nodded firmly. Leaning against the wall, she said with a resolute expression, "I’ll be sure to wait for my brother to come."

Aurora Sinclair stroked her hair, then she and Alvin Morgan headed back underground.

Through their search, the pair found the entrance to the laboratory, but the door required facial and retinal scans to open.

The security was on a different system from the one outside, and with Alvin Morgan’s watch now in sleep mode, he couldn’t hack it.

They had no choice but to find another way in.

"There might be a passage in Lord Serpent’s room," Aurora Sinclair said hesitantly, as if an idea had just struck her.

"Let’s go see."

Aurora Sinclair and Alvin Morgan returned to Lord Serpent’s room.

Alvin Morgan’s brow furrowed as he watched Aurora Sinclair tap around the foul-smelling room. "Are you looking for a secret passage?"

"Its nest."

A chill went through Alvin Morgan. He glanced at the motionless giant python lying on the floor nearby and instinctively shuffled to the side.

The python was three to four times larger than a normal one, and its appearance was utterly horrifying.

Yet Aurora Sinclair walked back and forth right beside it, her expression unchanged, her heart rate steady.

He suddenly felt a headache coming on.

"Found it." Aurora Sinclair’s voice held a note of pleasant surprise.

He watched as she pried open a gap in the floor tile beneath the giant python’s body, revealing a passage below.

"Morgan, there’s a secret passage here." Aurora Sinclair shoved the corpse aside, switched on her watch’s flashlight, and got ready to descend.

But after taking a few steps down, she noticed Alvin Morgan hadn’t followed her. "Morgan?" she called out, puzzled.

Alvin Morgan touched his nose, his voice a little shaky. "Aurora, could you throw that thing a bit farther away?"

Aurora Sinclair glanced where he was looking, then back at him. "You’re afraid of snakes?"

"...It’s just... unsettling."

"Oh."

And so, Aurora Sinclair grabbed the giant python by the tail and hurled it right out of the room.

Alvin Morgan: ...

The space at the bottom of the secret passage was large, but the path was wet and slippery, and the smell was absolutely foul.

All along the way, the path was lined with ghastly white bones.

The sight was utterly grim and terrifying.

Suddenly—

"Watch out!"

The moment Alvin Morgan saw the giant python coiled up ahead, his face went white and he shoved Aurora Sinclair behind him.

His body trembled, and it felt as if all the blood had drained from his face. He raised his gun and fired seven or eight shots in that direction, but the giant python didn’t move an inch.

Aurora Sinclair peeked out from behind him and sighed. "It’s a snakeskin."

Alvin Morgan froze.

Aurora Sinclair patted his stiff back, strode forward, picked up the snakeskin, and gave it a tug. "This could make a good whip."

To Alvin Morgan’s astonishment, Aurora Sinclair rolled up the long snakeskin and tried to stuff it into her pocket.

"Aurora, if you like it, we can buy one when we get back."

"No need. This kind of skin is very rare."

When Aurora Sinclair saw it really wouldn’t fit, she channeled her "Power" to slice the snakeskin in two, stuffing one roll into each of her pockets.

Alvin Morgan: ...

The pair continued onward and, at the very end of the passage, found something like a service elevator used for transporting food. A foul, fishy stench wafted out from it.

"Found it."

Alvin Morgan instantly understood what Aurora Sinclair had meant by "passage" and gave a wry, helpless smile.

"How did you figure that out?"

"They said the people in the lab installed an elevator to send it food," Aurora Sinclair stated plainly, recalling what she’d heard before.

Alvin Morgan chuckled. ’Her memory really is incredible.’

"I’ll go up first."

Aurora Sinclair pulled her mask down over her face, squeezed into the elevator first, and told Alvin Morgan to work the controls on the outside.

Alvin Morgan disagreed. "It’s too dangerous..."

"Trust me, okay?"

Aurora Sinclair’s gaze was calm and full of sincerity.

Resigned, Alvin Morgan reached out and patted her on the head.

"Promise me you’ll put safety first."

"Okay."

"As soon as you get to the top, pull me up immediately."

"Okay."

As the elevator ascended, Alvin Morgan’s heart rose into his throat.

Inside the elevator, Aurora Sinclair felt the ride was unusually long. It seemed like two or three minutes passed before the doors finally opened.

There was no one on the other side, just a large wire mesh cage, likely meant to stop the giant python from using the elevator.

Aurora Sinclair immediately scrambled out of the elevator and pressed the ’down’ button.

The gaps in the wire mesh were tiny, only wide enough for a thin rod or a single finger to pass through.

The wire mesh had an iron gate, but it was padlocked from the outside.

Aurora Sinclair pursed her lips, widened her stance, and lowered her center of gravity. Then, her hands shot out and grabbed the wire mesh.

When Alvin Morgan arrived, the first thing he saw was Aurora Sinclair in a low horse stance, yanking with all her might on the wire mesh.

She had already torn a massive gap in it.

"Aurora, that’s enough..."

Aurora Sinclair glanced back at him and relaxed her grip.

Alvin Morgan looked at her hands and rubbed them gently, his heart aching for her.

"Next time, leave the heavy lifting to me."

"Okay."

He produced a thin pin from his watch, reached his hand through the gap she’d made, and started picking the lock.

To Aurora Sinclair’s astonishment, the lock on the outside clicked open.

"How did you do that?"

"I’ll teach you later."

After emerging from the wire cage, the two proceeded cautiously.

They never expected to find themselves in a morgue...

A wave of nausea rose in her throat.

Aurora Sinclair bit her lip hard, the "Power" around her body growing as oppressive as the air before a storm.

She never imagined that the story she had fabricated earlier would turn out to be true. They had really been doing it.

’No wonder that man was so terrified...’

With grim expressions, the pair pressed on until they finally found someone preparing "food" for the giant python.

The person looked surprised to see them and was about to speak when a sharp pain shot through his neck. His vision went black, and he lost consciousness.

Alvin Morgan watched her suppress her fury, noting that she hadn’t destroyed the man’s Vitality. His heart ached as he embraced her from behind.

He comforted her, "They will get the punishment they deserve."

"Morgan, I want to destroy this place."

Her pupils were slowly changing color. As if sensing the change, Alvin Morgan immediately turned her around to face him, pressing his forehead against hers to soothe her.

After a long while, Aurora Sinclair’s emotions finally settled.

"Morgan, what about the Guardian here?"

Alvin Morgan stiffened. "Killed in battle."

"And the new one?"

Alvin Morgan was silent for a moment.

"It’s been a long time since a true Guardian has appeared here..."

A sharp glint appeared in Aurora Sinclair’s eyes.

Alvin Morgan reached up and stroked her head, his voice exceptionally flat. "In this world, people like your master, who are indifferent to fame and fortune, are rare. In some places, that word is just a noun..."

Aurora Sinclair’s fists clenched abruptly.
