(Inside the portal.)

Kael stepped forward, his entire being trembling with energy.

He stared down the shadowy figure as he uttered two words:

Dragonic Form

A sudden surge of mana erupted from Kael’s body, the sheer force of it sending shockwaves through the air.

His right arm began to glow, scales of molten gold and black spreading from his hand up to his shoulder.

Mana flowed around him like a storm, crackling with raw, untamed energy.

The figure tilted its head, its expression shifting to mild surprise.

"Interesting," it murmured.

Kael felt the primal power coursing through him, ancient and wild.

This was a fragment of his draconic heritage, a part of him he had barely begun to understand.

He raised Aethral Fang, the blade now radiating a ferocious aura that seemed to hum in harmony with his transformed arm.

"This ends now," Kael growled, his voice laced with a guttural intensity.

Then, with a deafening roar, Kael said.

"Venezia Sanguis!"

The technique wasn’t just a skill—it was destruction incarnate.

Crimson mana surged from his body, twisting and writhing like living flames.

The air around Kael grew heavy, the ground beneath him cracking and shattering.

He lunged forward with impossible speed, Aethral Fang slicing through the air like a comet. Each strike against the shadowy barrier sent out thunderous shockwaves, tearing through the space around him.

Marcus, caught in the chaos, turned to glance at Kael—and froze.

He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Kael’s movements were unreal, almost ethereal. Each slash of his blade was precise yet devastating, as if guided by some otherworldly force. The way he flowed through the air, dodging and striking with perfect precision, was beyond human comprehension.

"How… how is he same age me?" Marcus thought, dumbfounded, even as he continued to fend off the monsters around him.

The shadowy figure finally stepped forward, its calm demeanor replaced by irritation. "You’re persistent, I’ll give you that," it said, raising its hand. Darkness coalesced around it, forming into a massive spear.

Kael didn’t hesitate. He dashed forward, his glowing arm trailing streaks of light as he slammed Aethral Fang against the spear. The impact created a massive explosion, the shockwave flattening everything around them.

But the barrier still held.

Kael gritted his teeth, adrenaline and fury driving him.

He pressed forward, attacking with precise, unrelenting strikes.

The figure barrier deflected, but each clash of their power caused the ground beneath them to crack and tremble.

"You’re strong, boy," the figure said. "But not enough."

Kael, unfazed, smirked.

"We’ll see." His mind raced as he assessed the figure’s movements.

Despite the overwhelming pressure, Kael noticed cracks forming in the figure’s defenses.

The barrier shattered.

The explosion of energy sent both Kael and the shadowy figure flying.

Kael landed hard, his body screaming in pain, but he forced himself to stand.

"Impressive. You’ve surpassed my expectations." Figure said.

"Yes, this is it," Kael thought, a spark of determination lighting his eyes.

"Dark Void!"

The shadows around Kael pulsed, expanding and coiling outward.

The battlefield darkened as Kael’s senses sharpened to an unnatural degree while simultaneously dulling his opponent’s movements.

With his heightened perception, Kael launched himself toward the figure.

The figure raised a hand, his voice calm. "Good trick, boy. A—"

Kael interrupted the figure, delivering a devastating strike to his chest.

The blow broke through the second shield, and for the first time, the figure hesitated.

"You’re… more troublesome than I anticipated," it said, its tone laced with a grudging respect.

Kael pointed Aethral Fang at the figure, his arm trembling but steady.

"This isn’t over," kael said, his voice low and fierce.

The figure smirked.

"No, it isn’t," it said.

"Bye, child," the figure said, his voice cold and final.

"We’ll meet again later."

Before Kael could react, the figure vanished into the surrounding shadows, leaving only a faint trace of mana behind.

"Kael!" Marcus’s desperate voice broke the silence.

Kael turned to see Marcus barely holding his ground against the relentless horde of monsters.

"I can’t hold them any longer!" Marcus shouted, panic etched on his face.

But before Kael could intervene, the monsters around Marcus froze mid-attack.

One by one, they began to dissolve into nothingness, their dark forms disintegrating into the void.

"What the...?" Marcus breathed, his hands trembling as his sword lowered.

.

The portal shimmered behind them, and Kael and Marcus stumbled through it, their bodies battered and mana depleted.

The weight of their ordeal pressed down on them, exhaustion evident in their sluggish steps.

As they emerged, the chaos outside the portal became apparent.

Dozens of figures stood gathered, their expressions a mixture of tension and relief.

Ren, Aelina, and Lira were at the forefront, visibly shaken but still on their feet, while students from other teams stood in stunned silence.

Kael’s vision blurred, but he caught sight of someone sprinting toward him through the crowd.

He tried to focus, but his body refused to cooperate.

His legs gave out, and he felt himself falling.

Before he hit the ground, strong arms caught him.

"You’ve done well, child. Rest now," Principal Elowen’s soothing voice broke through the haze as she held him.

Her presence radiated an aura of safety and warmth, and Kael’s tense body finally gave in to the overwhelming fatigue.

Marcus, equally drained, collapsed to his knees, gasping for breath.

His trembling hands still clutched his sword, but his grip was weak.

Aelina and Ren rushed to his side, their faces etched with worry.

"Are you fine Marcus," Ren asked.

"Well somehow," he said.

"What...happened in there?" Lumia asked, her voice trembling with both anger and fear.

"It was..." Marcus struggled to speak, his voice hoarse. "A nightmare. We shouldn’t have survived."

Elowen’s calm yet firm voice cut through the murmurs of the crowd.

"Enough. They need rest and healing, not questions." She cradled Kael like a fragile treasure, her eyes narrowing as she glanced at Lumia.

"President Lumia, ensure the area remains secured. No one enters this portal until further notice."

Lumia nodded, though her hands clenched into fists as she glared at the portal.

"Yes, Principal."

Then Lumia stepped forward, her usually confident demeanor subdued.

"Is Kael...is he going to be okay?" She asked.

"He’ll recover," Elowen assured, her tone softening. "But for now, he needs peace."

As the crowd slowly dispersed under Lumia’s command, whispers spread like wildfire among the students.

Some spoke of Kael’s strength, others of the mysterious events inside the portal, but all carried an undertone of awe and unease.

In Elowen’s arms, Kael stirred slightly, his lips parting to mutter incoherently.

Though his words were faint, Elowen caught fragments:

"Darkness...devour...immortal..."

Her eyes darkened, a flicker of worry crossing her composed face.

"Just what did you face in there, child?" she murmured.

The portal shimmered ominously behind them, a silent reminder of the unknown forces that lingered beyond.
