Chapter 265: I am going to kill him.

Xiaobao had known Roan for years. His roguish tendencies were usually mild, a playful edge that never crossed the line. But tonight, he seemed to have turned the volume all the way up, going full rogue without hesitation.

Yu Xi’s patience was already thinning. He leaned back against the couch, his voice sharp. "Everything I need to know is in your file, so there’s no need for all this."

Roan had expected such a response, but he was ready. His smile widened, his tone deliberately provocative. "But my file doesn’t mention my favorite food, my favorite color... or my dating preferences."

Yu Xi stared at him, expression blank. "..." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Internally, Yu Xi swore. He thought Vigil was shameless, but this man. This man was the most shameless creature in existence. How Eros tolerated him was still a mystery.

"I am going to kill him," Yu Xi muttered under his breath, his tone low and dangerous.

Xiaobao immediately raised her hands, sliding between them like a barrier. "Wait, wait, wait, there will be no killing happening tonight." She shot Roan a glare. "Roan, reign it in a bit. My brother doesn’t have a good temper."

Yu Xi sat down before lifting the glass to his lips, the liquor burning down his throat. He hadn’t even planned to drink tonight, but if he wanted to get through this without snapping Roan’s neck, he needed something to calm himself down.

"I will behave myself," Roan said, leaning back with a grin. "It’s just... really difficult. I have a thing for feisty espers."

The words were gasoline on fire. Yu Xi slammed the glass down on the table, the sharp crack echoing through the room. "That’s it."

Xiaobao immediately grabbed his arm, holding him back before he could lunge. Roan’s eyes gleamed, itching for a tussle because that was how he liked to flirt.

Yu Xi shoved himself up from the couch, his patience gone. He stalked toward the bathroom, pulling out his communicator. The moment the door shut behind him, he dialed Eros.

Back in the private lounge, Xiaobao rounded on Roan, her voice sharp and furious. "What the fuck is wrong with you?"

Roan only smiled, unbothered. "Boss said this is a blind date. So this is me hitting on him."

Xiaobao’s jaw dropped. She couldn’t believe it. Her grandfather, of all people, actually wanted to set Yu Xi up with Roan.

Roan leaned forward, his grin widening. "Maybe I should start calling you sister-in-law."

Xiaobao’s eyes narrowed, her voice cutting like a blade. "No the fuck you won’t."

Roan chuckled, unfazed. "Bao Bao is too sensitive."

Xiaobao raised her middle finger at him, her glare sharp enough to cut glass. Roan only laughed harder, enjoying every second of the chaos he had stirred.

Meanwhile, Yu Xi paced the tiled floor of the bathroom his jaw clenched with irritation.

"Eros," he said flatly, "why the hell did you think it was a good idea to set up a meeting with this clown?"

On the other end, Eros chuckled, his tone maddeningly casual. "He is the most loyal subordinate I have. Really intelligent, great at covert operations, and a brilliant strategist."

Yu Xi’s brow furrowed deeper. "Why are you upselling him to me?"

Eros’s voice softened, though it carried a weight Yu Xi couldn’t ignore. "Because if anything happens to me, you will have to take over. And he’s the perfect subordinate for you."

Yu Xi stopped pacing, his voice sharp with sarcasm. "Really?... Seriously?"

"Well, yeah," Eros replied without hesitation. "Just give him a chance. Sure, he’s eccentric, but he’s really good at his job."

Yu Xi exhaled through his nose, his patience thinning. "Fine. But tell him to restrain himself. Otherwise, I will rip his tongue out."

There was a pause on the line. "..."

Finally, Eros sighed. "Okay, okay. I will talk to him."

Yu Xi hung up without another word. He splashed cold water on his face, trying to wash away the irritation, then straightened his jacket.

With his composure barely stitched together, he pushed open the door and walked back toward the private room.

Roan returned to the private room, his communicator still warm in his hand. Yu Xi assumed he had been talking to Eros, though he didn’t bother to ask. What mattered was that Roan seemed to have reined himself in, at least outwardly.

The roguish grin was still there, and the occasional flirtatious remark slipped through, but Yu Xi dismissed him as a madman and chose to ignore it.

Then Roan’s tone shifted. He gestured, and a series of floating screens flickered to life, spreading across the room in a constellation of data. The maps glowed with planetary outlines, each marked with red indicators scattered across the Orion Drift galaxy.

"We have uncovered more than thirty underground labs," Roan said, his voice steady, weighted with the gravity of the revelation. "Some of them move locations constantly, vanishing before we can even track them."

Yu Xi’s jaw tightened, his hand curling into a fist at his side. Each word stoked the anger in his chest, a fire rising with every detail.

Roan continued, his expression hardening as the images shifted—schematics, intercepted transmissions, fragments of surveillance.

Yu Xi scoffed, the sound sharp and cutting, unable to contain the fury that boiled inside him. His rage burned in the air like a blade, undeniable, unyielding. Every fiber of his being screamed to raid those labs immediately, to tear down the cruelty hidden within their walls.

Roan met his gaze, steady and unflinching. He understood. This wasn’t just important to Yu Xi, it was vital to Eros as well. He would do whatever it took to uncover who was orchestrating the entire system from the shadows.

The Jian brothers’ access to restricted databases had already given them an edge, a breakthrough after years of turning the galaxy upside down. And Yu Xi’s capture of Lord Leung, along with his infamous little black book, had provided even more details, leading to the scattered locations now glowing on the floating screens.

"I will discuss the way forward with them when I go back," Yu Xi said, his voice low but resolute.

Roan inclined his head. "Alright. I will await your orders."

Yu Xi turned to Xiaobao. "Let’s go."

But Xiaobao pouted, her tone playful. "No, come on. Can’t we drink a little? I am already here."

Roan leaned forward, his grin returning. "Come have a drink with me. We can get to know each other since we will be working together."
