On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 75: What Is My Older Brother’s Relationship with Clara Langley?
"Alright, stop overthinking." While we were waiting at a red light, Sebastian Forrest reached over and ruffled my hair. "Just half a month to go. Then the sky’s the limit, and no one will be able to hold you back anymore."
A weight lifted from my heart, and the corners of my lips turned up into a small smile. I nodded at him and said, "Yeah."
Half a month!
Two weeks!
Fourteen days!
As long as nothing unexpected happens in the meantime, I’ll be completely free of both Theodore Grant and the Grant Family!
The black Maybach drove along the road toward the city center. The wind whistled past outside, carrying a hint of coolness.
Dappled sunlight filtered through the lush green canopy, casting shifting patterns of light across my face.
I turned to watch the scenery fly by, enjoying a rare moment of tranquility, when I suddenly spotted an all-too-familiar face in a car not far from us!
"That’s my older brother!" I quickly grabbed Sebastian Forrest’s arm, pointing at the taxi that had just sped past us. "He’s in that taxi back there!"
Sebastian Forrest slammed on the brakes instinctively, ignoring the chorus of horns that erupted behind us. His eyes were locked on the taxi, already pulling away in the distance. He then made a sharp turn at the next intersection and began weaving through traffic to chase it.
But the taxi stayed on the elevated highway, heading out of the city. As I watched the skyscrapers recede from view, replaced by the lush green of a tree-lined mountain road, I couldn’t help but feel my stomach twist with anxiety.
"What if I was mistaken?" I turned to look at Sebastian Forrest.
It was just a fleeting glimpse. I was so sure it was my brother at that moment, but now that we’ve been chasing this long, I’m starting to have doubts.
"Don’t panic yet. Let’s follow it and see," Sebastian Forrest said, his voice calm and steady.
I nodded quickly. I knew that at this point, even if we were following the wrong person, we had to see it through. I wouldn’t have any peace of mind otherwise.
We continued along the tree-lined mountain road until we saw the taxi turn onto a narrow, winding path. Only then did Sebastian Forrest pull over and stop the car.
"What’s wrong?" I quickly looked toward where the taxi had vanished among the trees, wondering why Sebastian Forrest had stopped.
"The road doesn’t go any further," Sebastian Forrest said, pointing at the GPS.
Just as I was about to ask another question, the same taxi suddenly emerged from the path.
I ducked down instinctively, terrified that whoever was in the taxi would see me.
"What are you hiding for?" Sebastian Forrest looked at me, amused. He glanced at the passing taxi, the corner of his mouth twitching. "It’s empty."
Hearing this, I shot up and looked outside. "Then where’s my brother?"
Sebastian Forrest unbuckled his seatbelt. "He must be down that path."
Seeing that he was about to get out, I grabbed his wrist in a panic. "Where are you going?" I asked urgently.
Sebastian Forrest’s gaze fell to where my hand was gripping his wrist.
I realized I was being too forward and quickly let go.
"It’s too dangerous in there. Shouldn’t we just wait for my brother to come out?"
Sebastian Forrest chuckled. "He’s probably meeting someone. If we just wait here, we won’t find out a thing."
As he spoke, he let out a low chuckle, his eyes crinkling with amusement. "Don’t worry. You just wait here in the car for me, okay? I’ll be right back."
"Then... then be careful," I said, unable to hide my worry.
"I will." Sebastian Forrest nodded, then pushed open the car door and got out.
A moment later, he disappeared around the bend in the narrow path.
I waited in the car, my stomach churning with anxiety.
I had no idea why my brother would come to such a secluded place, but I was certain of one thing: he was definitely hiding something from me.
Just as my mind was racing with wild theories, a red car emerged from the path.
I ducked down instinctively, terrified that whoever was in the car would see me.
My heart hammered against my ribs, feeling as if it were about to leap out of my throat.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
Just then, a sharp knocking on the car window made me jump.
I slowly lifted my head, only to see a face pressed right against the window!
For a second, I thought my soul was going to leave my body!
But then, I got a clear look. The person with their face pressed against the glass was my older brother!
He obviously couldn’t see inside, though. His brow was furrowed in concentration as he peered in a few more times. When he was certain he couldn’t see anything, he turned and walked away.
I don’t know how long I waited. I stayed crouched on the seat for so long my legs had gone numb. Then I heard the car beep, and the driver’s side door was yanked open—
"What are you doing crouched down like that?" Sebastian Forrest asked, looking at me with a half-smile, the corner of his mouth curved in amusement.
Seeing it was Sebastian Forrest, I finally breathed a sigh of relief and pushed myself into a sitting position. "A red car just left. My brother was... he pressed his face to the window and tried to look inside..."
"Don’t worry. He couldn’t see a thing."
’The windows must be tinted,’ I thought.
As Sebastian Forrest started the car, I quickly asked, "Who was my brother here to meet?"
A small smile played on Sebastian Forrest’s lips. "Didn’t I tell you? As soon as Clara Langley saw that photo, I knew she would take the initiative to contact your brother."
I froze, the meaning of his words sinking in. "It was Clara Langley?"
"Yes."
I couldn’t help but bite my lower lip. The very thing I had been dreading the most had happened.
"What’s the relationship between my brother and Clara Langley?"
Sebastian Forrest glanced at me from the side. "It’s... complicated."
He paused, as if choosing his words carefully. "When I snuck over there just now... I saw your brother wiping Clara Langley’s tears."
With that one sentence, my last shred of hope shattered.
’Just as I thought...’
I slumped back in my seat, completely drained of strength, feeling lost and unsure of what to do.
"Don’t worry too much. Your brother has likely been deceived by Clara Langley..." Sebastian Forrest turned to look at me, his voice intentionally gentle. "I was afraid of being spotted, so I didn’t get too close. I only managed to overhear a few snippets of their conversation."
"What did they say?"
"I couldn’t hear clearly, but I think they mentioned Theodore Grant..."
Theodore Grant...
I lowered my gaze, but my mind was racing.
If my brother and Clara Langley really are involved, it would make sense for them to mention Theodore Grant. After all, she’s about to marry him.
’But how did my brother get tangled up with Clara Langley in the first place?’
While I was lost in thought, Sebastian Forrest spoke up again, his expression hesitant. "I also heard them mention... your mother."
’My mom?’
My heart seized. "Why would they mention my mother?"
