On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 81: The Miller Family’s Eldest Miss, Kidnapped and Missing for Many Years...
Just then, Sebastian Forrest’s car phone suddenly rang.
"Hello..."
After he pressed the answer button, a deep, slightly weary voice came through the car’s speakers. "I’m back. This trip completely wore me out, I’m exhausted. Where are you? Hurry up and take me out for a meal."
"Since when are beggars so demanding?" Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved into a slight smile as he joked with him. "Now’s not a good time. I have plans."
"What’s not convenient? A woman?"
"Mhm," Sebastian Forrest replied lazily.
"Chelsea Joyce?"
I subconsciously turned to look and my gaze met Sebastian Forrest’s. I immediately lowered my voice and asked, "Is that Dr. Miller?"
"Mhm." Sebastian Forrest’s lips curved, his dark eyes holding a hint of cockiness. "Should we grant him a pardon? Let him have the honor of dining with us?"
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I never thought he’d put me on such a pedestal. I couldn’t help but glare at Sebastian Forrest before quickly leaning closer to the microphone. "Dr. Miller, if you don’t mind, why don’t you join us?"
"See, Miss Joyce is the reasonable one." Jude Miller’s voice was tinged with delight. "I’ll head over to meet you guys in a bit."
「Sage’s Pavilion.」
It was the peak of the lunch rush, and every table in the main dining hall was occupied.
Sebastian Forrest and I went straight to a private room on the top floor. The moment we pushed the door open, we saw that Jude Miller was already sitting inside.
"You got here fast, you punk!" Sebastian Forrest cursed jokingly, casually hanging his trench coat on the rack.
"This place is close to the airport. It’s less than a ten-minute taxi ride," Jude Miller said, his gaze falling on me as he smiled. "It’s only been a few days, Miss Joyce, but you’ve gotten even more beautiful."
My cheeks flushed, and I extended my hand toward him. "Dr. Miller, long time no see."
However, just as Jude Miller was about to shake my hand, Sebastian Forrest smacked his away. "Who taught you to be such a smooth talker? Get lost!"
Jude Miller rolled his eyes, pulled out a chair, and sat down.
He had barely been seated for a moment before the table was filled with steaming hot dishes.
"Well, I’m not going to stand on ceremony with you guys..."
Jude Miller must have been starving. The moment the food arrived, he immediately picked up his chopsticks and started eating.
I watched him, a little curious. I wondered where he’d been to end up in such a sorry state.
Perhaps it was because I was used to seeing him in his white doctor’s coat, but seeing him now in casual clothes toned down his usual gentle and calm demeanor, adding a touch of carefree nonchalance.
"Where did you run off to this time? How did it go? Any news?" Sebastian Forrest asked as he placed a piece of meat on my plate, his eyes casually flicking over to Jude Miller.
Jude Miller swallowed his food, then slowly and deliberately drank a glass of wine before finally speaking. "I went pretty far this time. Way down south."
I was pricking up my ears to listen to their conversation, but my eyes were also glued to a dish of marinated cherries on the table. They looked sweet, sour, and utterly tempting, making my mouth water just looking at them.
Just as the lazy Susan was about to turn to me, I thought I’d grab a spoonful. But I had just picked up the spoon when someone spun the turntable away.
I subconsciously looked up and saw Jude Miller stuffing a small lamb chop into his mouth. He said dejectedly, "Don’t even mention it. Still no news."
While I was still dazed, the lazy Susan suddenly spun back. I quickly turned my head and saw Sebastian Forrest’s hand on the tray, the veins on the back of it slightly taut. He gave me a slight nod, gesturing for me to hurry up and take a spoonful, before looking up to continue his conversation with Jude Miller.
"If you ask me, it’s been so many years. You’ve poured so much manpower and resources into it without finding anyone. You’re never going to find her. I’d advise you all to stop trying."
But Jude Miller clearly disagreed, glaring at him irritably. "That’s my own sister we’re talking about! Just the thought that she might be living in misery right now makes my heart ache. She might be waiting for me, her big brother, to come and save her! How could I possibly give up?"
At this, Jude Miller took a deep breath. "Even if I have to search for the rest of my life, I’ll keep looking."
Sebastian Forrest glanced at him. "If you calculate her age, your sister would be twenty-five by now..."
His voice trailed off, and his gaze happened to land on me. "Just one year older than Chelsea. She might even be married with children..."
Listening from the side, I was completely lost, so I couldn’t help but interject, "Who are you guys talking about?" 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"Jude Miller’s little sister. She was kidnapped by his family’s enemies when she was two or three and disappeared..." Sebastian Forrest said, pointing his chopsticks at Jude. "For all these years, this guy has been searching everywhere for her..."
My jaw dropped in astonishment. I never would have thought something like that had happened to Dr. Miller.
’Kidnapped and disappeared...’
’And a child of only two or three, no less. I’m afraid the odds were not in Miss Miller’s favor.’
But I also knew that such a cruel thought should never be spoken aloud. If it shattered their hope of finding her, the Millers would probably be devastated beyond words.
I sighed softly, praying in my heart for the Miss Miller I had never met, hoping only that she had been found by a good family and had grown up safe and sound.
"I’m planning to go abroad next year."
Jude Miller must have been full. He pulled over a napkin to wipe his mouth, then looked up and continued, "There’s a study exchange opportunity at the hospital, so I’m thinking of going abroad to search there."
Twenty-some years ago, not many foreigners were adopting Asian girls. Still, conducting a search from here is very difficult; that kind of investigation would be easier to conduct abroad.
"So you’re giving up on searching in the country?" Sebastian Forrest raised an eyebrow.
"I’ve got you here in the country, don’t I!" Jude Miller’s lips curved. "Your network and influence are much wider than mine..."
"What if I do find her for you?" Sebastian Forrest deliberately teased him. "How are you planning to thank me?"
Jude Miller couldn’t help but frown in thought. After a long moment, he looked up and said with a completely serious expression, "That’s easy. If my sister is still single, she can offer herself to you in marriage!"
"Get outta here!"
Seeing the atmosphere lighten up, much of the frustration in Jude Miller’s heart dissipated. He smirked mischievously. "What? Didn’t you say you were going to marry my sister right in front of my grandfather and my nanny when you were little? Forgotten already?"
I couldn’t help but cover my mouth to stifle a laugh, looking at Sebastian Forrest with a teasing expression. I never knew he had such an adorable side to him when he was a kid.
Sebastian Forrest shot him a glare, but when he caught the smile on my face, he just shook his head in helpless amusement. "That was ages ago. Why are you still bringing it up? Besides, I was only four or five back then..."
He had probably gotten used to the adults constantly joking about it, so he had just been copying what he heard.
Of course, something like that couldn’t be taken seriously, and no one ever did.
"Alright, no more joking around. Let’s talk business." The smile on Jude Miller’s face faded slightly as he looked at Sebastian Forrest. "That military project your company was developing has landed, right? Are you starting the bidding and fundraising process in a few days?"
