Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 361 - 342: Key Evidence
Rhonda Wagner explained the current evidence held by the police to Sienna Thornton in detail.
Apart from eyewitness testimony proving that Sienna Thornton had an argument with Nina Sinclair at the law firm’s entrance on the night of the incident, the police also obtained surveillance footage from outside the law firm, the apartment garage, and some sections of the road.
"The surveillance outside the law firm clearly captured you and the deceased having an argument, and it also shows the set of eighteen beads that was found on the deceased’s car hanging on your coat at that time," Rhonda Wagner said.
Sienna Thornton recalled the scene that night and calmly said, "I am certain that the eighteen beads were snatched away by Nina outside the law firm, which is why I followed her in my car, intending to get the beads back from her."
Rhonda Wagner said, "But the surveillance didn’t capture the scene of her snatching the beads. Do you remember where they were taken? The surveillance only captured you running to the side of the deceased’s car, but your back was to the camera at the time, so it couldn’t be seen that the beads were no longer on your coat."
Sienna Thornton continued to recall: "At that time, she rushed out and shouted some insults at me and began to pounce toward me. I didn’t want to make contact with her, so I backed away all the way. I kept retreating until my back hit the wall opposite the parking space. She tried to slap me, I raised my hand to block it, and she took the opportunity to take the beads hanging on my coat. Then I chased after her, she got into the car, and I slapped her car window and pulled at her car handle, asking her to get out—"
Rhonda Wagner said, "The surveillance did capture you chasing and slapping her car—"
At this point, the two suddenly realized and spoke in unison: "Yes! The wall is a blind spot for the surveillance! It can’t capture it!"
Rhonda Wagner looked down and made notes on the case file.
Sienna Thornton calmly instructed, "When you go back, figure out a way to see if you can obtain the footage from other angles that were not captured by the existing surveillance."
Rhonda Wagner nodded as she took notes, "I understand."
Sienna Thornton said, "If this issue is resolved, then it can explain why I followed Nina in my car and why the eighteen beads ended up in Nina’s car."
Rhonda Wagner looked down at the case file and continued, "The reason the police consider the eighteen beads found in the deceased’s car as evidence that you were at the crime scene is that only your fingerprints are on the beads, and not the victim’s. Therefore, the police believe your claim that you followed the deceased’s car solely to retrieve the beads because she snatched them is unreasonable."
Sienna Thornton frowned in thought: why did the beads, obviously touched by Nina, only have her own fingerprints?
She recalled carefully.
After a while, she said in surprise, "I remember, Nina was wearing gloves at the time! It was very cold that night, and I remember she was wearing a pair of red leather gloves! The surveillance outside the law firm can prove it!"
Rhonda Wagner’s face lit up with joy, and he looked down to make records.
The two reviewed other details of the night of the incident and found that on West Suburb Avenue, which is the crime scene, there is no way to prove that Sienna Thornton, as she claimed, didn’t get out of the car and left immediately.
Some road surveillance captured her tailing Nina’s car into the crime scene, but the crime scene itself has no surveillance to prove she didn’t get out of the car or approach the deceased.
The most crucial evidence is the hardest to obtain.
.
After sorting through the case, Rhonda Wagner put away the file and smiled while looking at Sienna Thornton behind the iron bars, "Young Mr. Ford has arranged someone, and the relevant units, under pressure, will deliver the case to the prosecutor’s office tomorrow morning. The results will come soon."
Upon hearing this, Sienna Thornton, who had maintained a strong and calm demeanor all day, instantly broke down, her throat choking with discomfort, and her eyes and nose turned red.
She tilted her head back to keep the tears from rolling down. After her emotions slightly calmed, she choked and asked, "How is he? Did he say anything?"
"You were detained at seven last night; he arrived before eight and has been trying to find a way to expedite the review process. He waited outside until noon today before leaving, saying he had something to handle."
Rhonda Wagner, after all, being a man, wasn’t as sensitive as women, so he didn’t know or couldn’t describe Mr. Forrester’s state of mind or provide the mental condition of Cyrus, which Sienna Thornton most cared about and wanted to know.
Sienna Thornton understood, nodded, and with red-rimmed eyes, said, "Tell him when you see him—I am fine, let him take care of himself, and not to worry about me."
"Okay."
.
After Rhonda Wagner left, Sienna Thornton was taken back to the interrogation room.
Not sure if it was because she refused to loosen her lips, making further interrogation pointless, or whether Mr. Forrester really had people handle the connections, Seth Sutton hadn’t appeared for a long time.
Sienna Thornton sat in the interrogation room, waiting for seven at night, when she would be transferred to the detention center.
Although she was a lawyer, having never handled criminal cases, she truly didn’t know what the detention center looked like inside.
She sat idly in the interrogation room, her mind spinning on how to prove she hadn’t been to the crime scene.
She began to recall all the criminal cases she had read over the past decade since studying law. Just as she thought of a method that might provide her an alibi, the door to the interrogation room opened.
Two female officers walked in, holding a sterile sampling bag for police evidence preservation and a tote bag.
One of the female officers took out a pair of cotton shoes resembling snow boots from the tote bag, placed them at her feet, and said, "It’s going to get cold tonight. Change into these cotton shoes, please take off the shoes you are wearing, and we will keep them safely for you."
Sienna Thornton warily glanced at the sterile sampling bag, instinctively moving her feet backward, and guardedly looked at the female officer, "No need! I’ll wear my own shoes! Also, I want to see my lawyer, please help notify them."
The two female officers said nothing. One opened the sterile sampling bag, and the other crouched to remove Sienna Thornton’s high heels.
Sienna Thornton’s feet dodged the officer’s actions, and she growled, "You have no right to take my shoes! I want to see my lawyer!"
The officer holding the sterile sampling bag said, "You’re about to be taken to the detention center soon, and even if you don’t take off your shoes here, you’ll have to change shoes over there! You think the detention center will let you wear high heels wandering inside?"
Sienna Thornton gritted her teeth and glared at them, "Even so, I will change shoes only at the detention center! I want to see my lawyer!"
The female officer didn’t respond further. The two of them worked together to remove the high heels from Sienna Thornton’s feet, quickly putting them into the sterile sampling bag.
Sienna Thornton shouted, "No! You can’t do this! I want to see my lawyer!"
The two female officers ignored her, and the door was closed.
Sienna Thornton, in anger, heaved her chest, clenching her back molar teeth tightly, her handcuffed hands gripping into fists, and her nostrils flaring as she breathed heavily.
After a while, the female officer recording on the interrogation desk started tidying up her things.
Perhaps seeing that Sienna Thornton’s emotions were unstable, she lowered her voice and said, "In half an hour, you’ll be handed over to the detention center. Your lawyer won’t be allowed here at this point. When you get there, have the people at the detention center notify your lawyer to visit you."
