Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 418 - 397: Handsome Beauty
Sienna Thornton stood next to the URUS for a while, waiting for Quentin Thorne to gather his things. When he seemed ready, she opened the trunk and took out a large bunch of white chrysanthemums.
Simon Forrester had prepared these flowers early this morning. He hadn’t mentioned it to her at first, but when she got in the car to leave, he leaned on the car window to instruct her to place two white chrysanthemums at each grave during the worship.
She asked why it had to be two, since one seemed enough in shows. He cheerfully said that the other was from him, to convey his sincerity to the Thorne family’s ancestors.
She teased him for being so eager to marry into the family, to which he replied he couldn’t wait to become her "husband" the very next day.
Recalling their playful banter in the garage that morning, Sienna chuckled, her right cheek boasting a deep dimple. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Cradling the white chrysanthemums, she put on a more serious face and walked toward where the Thorne family had gathered.
She wore a black casual windbreaker, with a black T-shirt tucked into black high-waisted skinny pants, black and white Nike running shoes on her feet, and her hair tied up in a neat high ponytail.
Her features were sharp, further enhanced by the solemn expression she held in the cemetery, and combined with her cool outfit, she exuded a kind of handsome beauty.
It was then that the Thorne family descendants saw the chic young woman, who had removed her sunglasses, was Sienna Thornton, their eyes showing impressive admiration.
Quentin Thorne was also seeing his eldest daughter dressed like this for the first time. As she approached, he paused and asked, "Annie, were you standing next to a grey SUV just now?"
The younger members laughed, "Second Uncle! That’s not an SUV, it’s a Lamborghini supercar—the Urus!"
Sienna smiled and greeted Quentin and Old Mrs. Thorne.
Old Mrs. Thorne was delighted at the sight of her, clasping her hand tightly, intending to walk together.
Ian Grant and his daughter, hands full of items, wore grim and cold expressions.
Sienna, holding the bouquet in one hand and led by Old Mrs. Thorne with the other, couldn’t carry anything else. She softly asked Old Mrs. Thorne, "Grandma, do you need me to support you as we walk? If not, I’ll help Dad with some things."
Though nearing eighty, Old Mrs. Thorne still had students and was conducting research, robustly active, and didn’t need assistance. She soon released Sienna’s hand with a smile.
Sienna took a red bag from Quentin’s hand to carry.
A troop of fifty or so Thorne family members grandly ascended the stairway leading to the towering cemetery.
This majestic cemetery, clearly built for officials and elites, housed various smaller cemeteries within, with the Thorne family ancestors’ graves concentrated in one exclusive small cemetery.
They worshiped the Thorne ancestors oldest to youngest, moving down to the generation of Quentin Thorne’s father. They began worshiping at around nine in the morning, and although generally harmonious, tensions arose upon reaching Quentin Thorne’s father’s grave.
A disagreement over whether Sienna or Mina should worship Grandfather first led Ian Grant to lash out.
Being very superstitious, Ian believed the child who worshiped first would receive the ancestors’ greatest protection. Consequently, seeing Quentin Thorne and Old Mrs. Thorne urging Sienna to worship first was unacceptable to him; he insisted Mina go first.
Initially, Quentin warned him with a stern look, but he ignored it and caused a scene at the gravesite, displeasing Old Mrs. Thorne’s face, and Quentin, irritated, dragged him away.
The pair stood afar, discussing something. Sienna could only see Ian’s angry gestures as he scolded Quentin, while Quentin remained calmly composed speaking to him.
Sienna suddenly felt bored, placing the remaining few white chrysanthemums from the bouquet at Grandfather’s tombstone.
She approached Old Mrs. Thorne and said, "Grandma, I’ll go to the restroom and be back soon."
Understanding she was letting Mina worship first, Old Mrs. Thorne felt sorry for her, but it couldn’t be helped—the family couldn’t argue until dusk.
She urged Sienna to return quickly and stay safe, while also instructing Mina to call back her parents.
With Sienna’s retreat, Mina worshiped Grandfather first, Ian’s stern look finally easing somewhat.
Old Mrs. Thorne was exasperated, reminding Quentin to call Sienna.
Upon hearing Sienna went to the restroom alone, Quentin immediately called her, and when there was initially no answer, he became quite anxious, searching far along the path.
He waited outside the nearest restroom for quite a while but didn’t see Sienna come out, loudly calling her name outside yet receiving no reply. He hurriedly called Mina to come out.
Upon seeing Mina, he urged, "Mina, your sister said she was going to the restroom, but she hasn’t come out yet; quickly go check inside!"
Mina promptly searched but soon returned: "I didn’t see her!"
The pair retraced their steps and finally found Sienna worshiping at Mr. Thorne’s grave.
Quentin relaxed a bit, hurriedly running over. As Sienna completed her worship and rose, he anxiously questioned, "Annie, where did you go? Why didn’t you answer your phone when Dad called?"
"Did you call me?" Sienna took out her phone from her windbreaker pocket, glancing at it, "Sorry, I had it on silent last night and forgot to turn it back on today."
Before Quentin could respond, Ian, aware his daughter went out to help find Sienna, sneered, "You did it on purpose, didn’t you? Making Mr. Thornton worry about you!"
"Enough!" Quentin lashed out at him, Ian angrily turning his face away.
Old Mrs. Thorne shook her head helplessly, thoroughly disapproving of this daughter-in-law, yet refrained from commenting due to family being present.
She apologetically regarded Sienna, gently patting her hand, "Annie, let’s go."
"Okay." Sienna replied obediently.
As they passed by Ian and his daughter, Sienna glanced at Ian, saying nothing, as she helped the elderly lady walk away.
Her passive resistance only fueled Ian’s anger further.
.
With the ancestral worship complete, the forty or so Thorne family members descended the mountain en masse, planning to have lunch at the family association nearby.
This time, Old Mrs. Thorne refused to ride with Quentin, insisting on going with Sienna.
Seeing the elderly and young companion ride off intimately in a luxury car, Ian stood still, spat: "That old hag definitely favors that brat’s car! That brat’s car was slept for, anyone riding it is disgraceful!"
"Ian!" Quentin shouted angrily while storing items in the trunk, "Have you forgotten what I told you?!"
Mina hurriedly tugged Ian, shaking her head, signaling her to stop speaking recklessly.
.
The family association was twenty kilometers outside the cemetery in the suburbs, a three-story standalone building serving as the Thorne Clan’s gathering venue.
The ground and second floors, along with the indoor courtyard, were filled with large round tables hosting a feast, serving the Thorne Clan descendants who worshiped the ancestors today.
