Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 436 - 415: Fu’s Sleeping Prince Charming
Sienna Thornton didn’t sleep all night, and the next day she went to work with dark circles under her eyes, and limbs that could collapse at any moment.
Because she had to go to Valois in early November to initiate the consultation process of the O League’s unreasonable anti-dumping duties on our country’s fastener products exported to O League countries, Sienna would be very busy these two months—it was the most critical period of the battle, after all.
After nearly a whole day of meetings, she was still perusing documents sent by her subordinates by the time she got off work. She hadn’t realized it had gotten dark until Melinda Linton called to ask why she hadn’t come home. It was already past nine o’clock.
After making a call to her assistant, she got up to stretch her tense muscles from the entire day.
Someone knocked on the door: "Knock knock."
Sienna Thornton: "Come in."
Her assistant poked her cute, apple-shaped face through the door: "Boss, did you need something?"
Sienna was standing by the window, twisting her waist, looking at the bustling scene of Regent Street across the way. She pointed to a stack of documents on the desk: "I’ve signed all those. Sort them out and send them to the relevant departments first thing tomorrow."
"Got it!" The assistant, smiling, came in and took the documents.
The assistant’s name was Wendy Jacobs, from Z City. Like Sienna, she was a student from Z City No. 1 High School and Braden University’s law school graduate.
Half a year ago, after passing the written exam, during the second interview, Wendy recognized Sienna at once and openly said that there were legends of Sienna everywhere at Braden University and Z City No. 1 High School. She even said she studied law and applied to Braden University because she admired Sienna so much.
Wendy had a babyface that hadn’t quite lost its chubbiness yet. She looked healthy and very innocent and cute. Considering they were both from Z City and Braden University, Sienna eventually chose her over another candidate who seemed physically weaker.
The workload at the Treaty and Law Department was huge and required extreme precision, which naturally added more pressure. Even someone like Sienna—who had always been hardy and almost never fell ill—felt exhausted. So for newly graduated students who weren’t as robust, the pressure was even greater. That’s why she gave up on the girl who passed the written test with the highest score to choose Wendy, with the second-highest, not just because she was a fellow local.
After taking Wendy on as an assistant, she nurtured her the same way she once did with Rochelle Linwood, helping Wendy accumulate real-world experience, offering her spiritual and material support when she first started, and providing her with resources to win her over inside and out, grooming her towards becoming a confidante.
Wendy, being fresh out of school, couldn’t withstand such an approach and was soon obedient to Sienna.
Just after Wendy had taken the documents out and hadn’t even had the chance to sit down, other colleagues came over to ask: "Is it true that the boss’s signature has changed recently?"
When Wendy first became Sienna’s assistant, she heard other colleagues gossiping about how the daughter of the head of Court G was working in the Treaty and Law Department.
Everyone was curious about who that daughter was. Around that time, Sienna’s signature changed from "Sienna Thornton" to "Sienna Thorne," and clever Wendy immediately guessed that her boss was the head’s daughter.
However, she sensed that the boss didn’t want others to know, so every time a colleague tried to see the leader’s signature on a document, she would find ways to avoid it.
But it didn’t really matter if they saw the signature—Sienna’s writing was like a scrawl anyway. If people weren’t familiar with handling her signed documents, they wouldn’t really be able to tell whether it was "Thornton" or "Thorne." Her title didn’t change, and everyone still called her Director Thornton.
"Jameson, show us!"
Colleagues kept pestering Wendy, but Wendy held the documents tightly, rubbing her little hands and laughing: "The boss said documents can’t be leaked, so you can’t see them. Please spare me." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
She was young and cute, so no one would make it hard for her, and soon everyone went back to their desks to deal with their work.
.
Sienna twisted her body a bit, then called Wendy to notify the colleagues working overtime to go home early. She herself continued to work overtime, reviewing more documents.
She reviewed all the documents needed for tomorrow’s meeting. By the time she left the office, nearly everyone was gone, except Wendy, who was still at her cubicle.
"Jameson, aren’t you leaving?" Sienna turned off the lights and locked the office door.
"I’m leaving now!" Wendy picked up her bag and ran over to Sienna, following her downstairs.
In the elevator, Sienna asked with concern, "How’s your father’s health?"
"He had tests done for hepatitis B and an abdominal ultrasound. The doctor said it’s a fatty liver and advised him to lose weight, quit drinking, and stay up late less."
Sienna nodded: "That’s good. Make sure to call home often to check on the elders. If you need any help, let me know."
"Okay, thank you, boss."
.
Realizing how late it was, Sienna drove Wendy home.
After leaving the alley and reaching the crossroads, she inexplicably didn’t head towards Melinda’s and instead drove up the highway straight to the New District.
She called Melinda, saying she’d be staying at Simon Forrester’s that night and wouldn’t be coming home.
Melinda advised her to get some rest and not to stay up, and didn’t say much else.
Off the highway, crossing the bridge, and one more traffic light, she’d reach Simon Forrester’s place. Sienna checked her phone—it was past eleven.
Simon hadn’t called since last night; it had been the whole day. What mischief was he up to?
.
Soon, she arrived at the apartment.
Once out of the elevator, Sienna opened the door to darkness. She thought Simon wasn’t home yet. Walking to the master bedroom, she fumbled through her bag for her phone, intending to call him to ask why he wasn’t home yet.
As soon as she turned on the light in the master bedroom, she saw his tall form sprawled across the two-meter bed.
She moved closer. Simon was gripping his phone, clutching her pillow, sleeping soundly.
She leaned over gently to check his phone. The screen was on their WeChat chat box, with a half-written, unsent message—
"These past few nights without you, I’ve slept so..."
Was he going to say, "I’ve slept so soundly," or "I’ve slept so lonely and forlorn?"
Sienna wasn’t sure, deciding to interrogate him about it when he woke up in the morning.
She tiptoed to shower. It was too late to wash her hair, fearing she’d wake Simon, so she took a quick shower, changed into her pajamas, and slipped into bed.
Simon was deep in sleep; he didn’t even notice when she got into bed.
She didn’t disturb him, planting a light kiss on his brow, snuggled closer to his side, and watched his handsome face under the dim glow of the nightlight.
He wore a white T-shirt, his freshly washed hair softly falling over his forehead. His fair skin under the white shirt made him look even cleaner and more handsome.
He was sleeping peacefully, his long lashes casting a pretty shadow under his eyes.
Sienna felt her heart grow tender, so she moved closer, kissed his chin, and as she turned off the light with the remote, the room plunged into darkness, and the man suddenly turned, pulling her into his embrace...
