Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 132: Choice?
The tailored white shirt outlined her slender and graceful figure.
At first glance, Scarlett Shaw appeared pure and soft, clear and clean.
It’s hard to look away.
After all, when Scarlett was a child, she was raised like a little princess.
Even if she has fallen now, her unique clean aura can still be seen easily.
Of course, for someone like Julian Ford, who is distinguished and rarely pays attention to inconsequential people, to focus on Scarlett—it’s naturally because—
She is now his girlfriend, and he feels something for her.
Reflected in Julian’s pupils, Scarlett had her eyes lowered slightly, lost in thought.
But it’s quite obvious she looked rather dejected.
Julian couldn’t help but furrow his brow.
He wasn’t someone whose emotions changed easily, even less so would he show them in public, so when he furrowed his brow, the marketing manager who had just finished reporting the annual plan suddenly felt his knees buckle, fearing he’d said something wrong, almost tripping over.
Fortunately, the host reacted quickly and smoothly handled the situation.
After the meeting, Ezra Ford called Julian Ford into the chairman’s office.
"You seem to have opinions about the marketing department’s annual targets."
No one understands a son better than his father.
Ezra Ford clearly also noticed the person behind the little incident was his own son.
Julian’s expression was calm, "No."
"Displaying clear likes or dislikes after others report their work is not how you should behave." Ezra Ford’s expression didn’t change, but his voice was ice-cold and heavy, "Besides, the marketing department is now under Vincent, and we’re not yet at the stage of openly tearing ties with him."
"I will be more mindful," Julian replied.
Ezra nodded, putting an end to the small episode.
Julian asked, "Is there anything else?"
Ezra changed the topic, saying: "Have you had enough of being alone recently?"
Julian paused as he was slightly bent over, holding a blue and white porcelain teapot to pour tea for Ezra, then gently placed the pot down, raised his eyes, and looked silently at his father.
Ezra knew exactly what it meant when his son didn’t speak.
But he continued slowly, "Your mother recently started organizing matchmaking for you again, and the matter with the Walsh Family is quite long past. You should go along with her more."
Julian didn’t respond but instead asked: "Do you think what she’s doing is good for me?"
"The women she picks are all from families that match ours, bringing considerable benefits to the Ford family, while being good wives to support and assist you; that’s enough."
"So, my feelings don’t matter at all to you?"
Ezra looked deeply at him upon hearing this, and said, "What kind of feelings do you want?"
"I have no plans to advance this kind of matter at the moment."
As soon as Julian finished speaking, Ezra’s calm face immediately darkened.
Julian confronted his icy gaze, not retreating, his eyes calm as water, full of presence.
"Julian, you’re trying to escape the arrangements your mother and I have made."
Ezra’s statement was definitive, clearly, he had made up his mind.
Julian paused for two seconds upon hearing this and said, "Can’t I have my own choice, even in this matter?"
"Choice?"
Ezra seemed to hear something amusing, shallowly curled his lips, and looked at him with a smirk.
"Julian, you’re not born to the Ford family just yesterday, how can you still naively say such things?"
Without waiting for Julian to respond, Ezra continued meaningfully: "Could it be you’ve developed inappropriate thoughts about some insignificant woman?"
"You can continue arranging, but the result will be no different from when I met Zoe Sutton and Lynn Walsh."
A layer of frost settled in Julian’s eyes.
The icy gaze made Ezra furrow his brow slightly.
Julian said, "I will not develop feelings for any of the women you arrange, nor can I guarantee being a good husband. After all, as the saying goes, when the upper beam is not straight, the lower beam will be crooked. Don’t you agree, father?"
Julian’s words were pointed, the underlying sarcasm was too obvious.
Ezra’s eyes flickered slightly but just scrutinized him thoughtfully.
Suddenly, he chuckled, a laughter not reaching his eyes, and said: "Whether you can do it or not, that’s a matter after marriage. As long as the benefits keep coming, and the Ford family has heirs, you can all do as you please, and no one will say a word. As for the word choice, I don’t want to hear it again in the future, nor should you mention it in front of your mother; it’ll upset her."
Julian’s expression paused for a moment, his lips moved but he made no sound.
Ezra spoke earnestly:
"Cloud Harbor is coastal, whether it’s trade or otherwise, it’s a crucial part of the Ford Group’s international development and has always been an area we want to focus on."
"But now, your uncle basically has control over Cloud Harbor. The visible clients at Veridian are all Vincent’s connections. As for the unseen, do you think he’d only linger with covetous eyes over Veridian?"
Ezra leisurely took a sip of tea, Julian pondered for a few seconds, then said lightly: "Unseen?"
The teacup was placed down.
Ezra didn’t elaborate further.
He only said: "The saying ’wealth doesn’t last for three generations’ is never for play. Julian, don’t forget, what you bear isn’t just your mother’s and my expectations, nor merely the responsibility of the Ford family. Have you forgotten whose life you owe?"
Silence rose like a snowstorm, erupting on level ground.
The air grew suffocatingly heavy.
Julian’s calm indifference was tinged with coldness, intensely chilling for a moment.
If there were outsiders present, they would surely be shocked at his rarely seen, unpleasant expression.
Ezra, however, wore a accustomed look, his calm face showing not the slightest concern for his son, but he continued to speak composedly:
"As always, Julian, the foundational logic of maintaining relationships between people is always the exchange of benefits, remember that."
After speaking, he chuckled as if to ease the atmosphere.
"Besides, your mother’s approach is somewhat extreme, but first, it’s for your own good, second, you know how much that incident affected her, now that you’re our only son, you naturally have to take on more."
Julian’s eyes lowered slightly, his emotions hard to discern.
After a while, he said: "I can go to meet them, but there won’t be any further developments."
"As long as it achieves the purpose and gains benefits, you certainly can do so." Ezra glanced at him, raised his brows meaningfully, "But with your mother, you must explain clearly yourself."
After Ezra finished speaking, Julian responded with a back view leaving without a hint of reluctance.
The door to the chairman’s office closed with a bang. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
The sound was neither heavy nor light.
But it was resounding.
Scarlett, after delivering documents at the assistant’s office, stepped out and walked to the elevator hall just as the exclusive elevator descended from the top floor where the chairman’s office was located, stopping at their level.
The elevator doors opened, Scarlett and Julian locked eyes.
