Please Let Me Go, My Contracted Ex-Husband.-Chapter 238- Maybe this is life
Later, her close friend Cynthia sent word from Australia—she was alive and well. Upon hearing the news, Bonnie’s spirit lifted noticeably. She started talking to him again, even occasionally throwing small tantrums, arguing, or playfully bickering with him.
One time, he overheard her chatting with Cynthia on the phone. Her casual tone and relaxed expression made him realize—she had always been an easygoing, straightforward girl at heart.
As the years passed, their relationship remained peaceful. Life became so calm that he almost believed they were just an ordinary married couple. On his birthday, she even gifted him a pair of leather shoes. Though they were a size too big, he was so overjoyed he nearly lost his mind.
For a while, he truly believed she had fallen for him. But somehow, they had ended up like this. Was he too proud, or was she just too stubborn?
Forget it. He didn’t want to think about it anymore. He was exhausted.
He sped along the winding highway, rolling down the car window, letting the rushing wind carry all his memories away.
"The best way is never to meet, so there will be no love to regret."
Suddenly, this line of poetry surfaced in his mind. It was written by Tsangyang Gyatso, the legendary lover-poet. He had always scoffed at such sentimental nonsense. But in
Cynthia and Albert got off the plane, and Jim arrived to pick them up.
Olive grinned and threw herself into Jim’s arms, her sweet little mouth as sugary as honey.
"Uncle JC, I missed you so much! I missed you to death!"
Jim, utterly charmed, picked her up and planted a big kiss on her.
Among all the children of BlackRock, everyone adored this one and only little princess. She was so well-behaved and sensible that parents often held her up as an example for their own mischievous boys—much to the annoyance of Bruno and Arven, who would seize every opportunity to tease and bully her.
But over time, the little girl got smarter. The moment they tried to mess with her, she would purse her lips and let out a flood of tears. Terrified, the two boys would rush to comfort her, never daring to provoke her again.
Once they were in the car, Cynthia frowned as she recalled Albert’s parting words to James.
"What exactly is this ’important matter’ you mentioned? If my brother really isn’t coming back, I can’t just quit the TV station after six months. Bonnie is struggling enough as it is!"
What was so important that he had to keep it a secret from her? That was completely unfair!
Albert gave Cynthia a meaningful smile.
"Can’t we talk about this when we get home tonight?"
Seeing his mysterious expression, Cynthia rolled her eyes, too lazy to bother with him. But little Olive, who was nestled in his arms, suddenly became very interested.
"Daddy, Daddy, let’s whisper secrets, okay? You can tell me, and I promise I won’t tell Mommy..."
She blinked her big eyes and leaned her little ear toward him.
Cynthia nearly spat blood in frustration at her daughter’s words, while Albert chuckled and held Olive closer, whispering something in her ear.
No one expected what happened next—whether from excitement or just sheer mischief, Olive clapped her little hands and shouted,
"Wow! Daddy wants Mommy to give me a baby sister?"
"What?!"
Cynthia froze on the spot. Once she recovered, her face turned completely red, and she awkwardly glanced at Jim in the front seat.
Albert was both amused and exasperated, while Cynthia glared at him in fury. Olive, realizing she had let the secret slip, quickly covered her little mouth with both hands.
"Sorry, Daddy! I accidentally said it out loud..."
Jim, after laughing heartily, suddenly put on a serious face and said to them,
"Boss, come on, can you put the baby-making plans on hold for a bit? Give me a break first—let me win my woman back, okay?"
Cynthia couldn’t help but burst out laughing at his pitiful expression, while Albert shot Jim a sideways glance.
"Alright, alright, stop whining. You have the day off tomorrow."
Cynthia also smiled and encouraged him.
"You’ve got this! Monica is a great girl!"
Back home, Cynthia was unpacking in the bedroom when Albert came out of the shower, wrapped his arms around her, and tried to get intimate. But as soon as she remembered what he had said in the car, she was instantly furious. She pushed him away with a scowl.
"Albert, don’t even think about touching me again!"
Grinning shamelessly, he scooped her up in his arms and, despite her struggles, threw her onto the bed.
"Then I’ll just take you by force!"
Cynthia glared at him helplessly.
"Can you think about something serious for once? While we still have time, let’s go take care of Olive’s school enrollment today, okay?"
Hearing this, he actually let go of her, but instead of getting up, he let his body fall back onto the bed, lying flat with his eyes closed. He raised a hand to cover his forehead, looking strangely pensive.
Cynthia noticed his unusual behavior and immediately grew concerned.
"What’s wrong?"
He let out a soft sigh, pulled her into his arms, then opened his eyes and gazed at her. A deep mist of emotions clouded his eyes.
"I was just thinking... after everything we’ve been through, we can finally live like a normal family of three. It feels unreal, like a dream..." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Hearing this, Cynthia felt a pang of bittersweet emotions in her heart. But more than anything, she felt hopeful for their new life. She gently rested her head against his chest and whispered,
"Maybe... this is life. No matter how intense or dramatic the past was, in the end, it’s just part of the background—a fleeting detail in an ordinary journey."
After completing Olive’s school enrollment, Cynthia immediately called Bonnie. She needed to talk to her about James. Their four-year relationship had ended just like that, and she felt it was such a pity.
She knew that James still loved Bonnie. Even though he was the one who initiated the divorce, he must have had his own reasons—his own pride and struggles. And from what Cynthia could tell, Bonnie didn’t seem as indifferent to James as he had claimed.
But no matter how many times Cynthia called, Bonnie didn’t pick up. She even tried calling the TV station, only to be told that Bonnie had taken the day off. Cynthia was growing increasingly worried.
Meanwhile, Bonnie’s world had completely fallen apart. At that moment, she was sitting alone on a bench outside the hospital, her face filled with confusion. In her hands, the test results were clear as day:
She was pregnant.
