Chapter 251: Chapter 251- I’m Bonnie

She didn’t know what was wrong, but the way she said it felt awkward. She only said that one word and didn’t look at him anymore, lowering her head to eat. Because of her few words, James became even more disheartened. He should have gotten up and left, but he couldn’t bear to leave the situation of being with her like this. In the end, he picked up his chopsticks and began eating, his interest waning.

Bonnie had only eaten a few bites when Cynthia picked up a piece of chicken and placed it on her plate, presenting it like a treasure.

"Bonnie, try their spicy chicken. The flavor is really authentic!" Cynthia said.

Bonnie gritted her teeth in frustration, glaring at her, and said through clenched teeth, "I’m not feeling well today, I can’t eat anything too spicy..."

As a mother of a four-year-old, she certainly knew that pregnant women shouldn’t eat spicy food. She was purposely trying to remind that man to notice her condition. He was so sharp; if she kept reminding him like this, he would surely figure it out sooner or later.

She really underestimated her best friend. Sometimes, she made her cry with gratitude, other times she made her grind her teeth in frustration. No! It wasn’t Cynthia’s fault!

It was all Albert’s fault! Before she met Albert, Cynthia wasn’t this sly. Since getting involved with him, she had become increasingly devious and cunning. Yes! It must be Albert’s fault!

Cynthia’s face twisted with regret as she picked up the chicken and put it back on the plate.

"Ah, what a shame. I remember you used to love spicy food. Honestly, Bonnie, what’s up with you lately? You don’t drink, you don’t eat spicy food, you refuse this and that..."

As Cynthia chattered away, the man, who had been eating gracefully, began to look over at her, studying her closely. She kept signaling Cynthia to stop, but it seemed like Cynthia didn’t hear her. Finally, she said something that nearly made Bonnie lose it:

"I remember when I was pregnant with Olive, I was so picky with food too!"

As soon as Cynthia finished speaking, Bonnie almost spat out the soup in her mouth, choking so badly that she started coughing uncontrollably. Cynthia hurried over, pretending to be concerned, patting her on the back.

"What’s wrong, Bonnie?"

Although Cynthia said this out loud, she was secretly laughing inside. You didn’t want me to say it directly, but you never said I couldn’t say it like this, huh? Oh dear, she realized she was getting more and more devious—what should she do? It was all thanks to her clever "squid" (Albert)! Every day, playing mind games with him, she had unknowingly been influenced by him. Hehe.

Bonnie finally managed to catch her breath. When she looked up, her eyes met the man sitting across from her. He had put down his chopsticks and was leaning back with his arms crossed, studying her with a complicated expression. The gleam in his eyes made her feel more and more uneasy.

Seeing that her goal had been achieved, Cynthia smiled and tried to steer things along.

"Hey, you two, let’s hurry and eat, or we’ll be late for work soon!"

James glanced at Cynthia, noticing the sly glint in her eyes. Without reacting, he calmly picked up his chopsticks again and resumed eating. But Bonnie couldn’t eat anymore. After forcing down a few more bites, she couldn’t stomach it any longer. She had already lost her appetite, and now, with Cynthia’s little game, she felt like she could just die from embarrassment.

On the way home, she didn’t say a word to Cynthia. She was really angry now! How could Cynthia betray her like that? She thought of her as a friend she could rely on.

But dear Bonnie, sometimes the person in the middle of things can’t see clearly, while the one watching from the outside has a clearer view. Just like back when you were at odds with Albert, wasn’t it you and the rest of the friends who pushed them together, helping them find the happiness they have today?

After work in the afternoon, Bonnie went to the venue for the evening banquet to oversee the preparations. She spent the entire afternoon there and had no further interactions with the man.

The evening banquet was a grand affair, filled with guests and lively chatter. The television station she worked for was somewhat well-known in the city, so many prominent figures from various fields had come to show their support.

As the event’s planner, she stood at the entrance with a group of hostesses, smiling and greeting the guests. She had also applied a delicate makeup look, styled her hair, and changed into a black evening gown.

Her short hair was meticulously styled by the hairdresser, pinned up with clips, and shaped with hairspray into an elegant updo. The look gave her a softer, more feminine aura, making her appear less like the usual, sharp-edged woman she was known for and more like someone with a charming, graceful presence.

To be honest, she had never tried such a feminine hairstyle before. She had originally planned to just blow-dry her hair, but the stylist strongly recommended the updo, saying her features were quite beautiful, but her short hair was undermining them.

Reluctantly, she agreed to go along with it, and after the transformation, she stood frozen in front of the mirror for a long time, stunned by the sight of the woman staring back at her.

The makeup artist then gave her a subtle and refined makeup look, and once she slipped into the swaying black evening gown, she didn’t even recognize herself. She stood there, looking at her reflection in awe, her hands cupping her face, examining herself from every angle.

Of course, her stunning appearance wasn’t just surprising to her. As she greeted the guests, many of them took her hand, puzzled, and asked,

"Excuse me, may I ask who you are?"

She could only smile and explain,

"I’m Bonnie!"

After all, she was usually seen in a more neutral, sharp image. Upon hearing her name, the guests were all taken aback and couldn’t help but praise her. She smiled modestly, accepting the compliments with grace.

The most attention-grabbing guests of the evening, of course, were the Boston siblings, especially since it was rumored that Cynthia would be attending with Albert. As soon as the news broke, the reporters were abuzz, waiting eagerly for their arrival.

James, after all, had attended the annual gala every year, so the reporters were quite familiar with him. But Albert was a different story. He rarely appeared in public with his wife. In the eight years since their marriage, aside from their last appearance in Hong Kong, it seemed they had not been seen together in public, so everyone was very much looking forward to this moment.

Cynthia appeared on Albert’s arm, making a grand entrance. Her deep purple evening gown matched Albert’s tie, and her radiant smile as she leaned into his tall frame created a perfect picture of beauty and elegance. The handsome couple together was such a sight that it instantly overwhelmed the reporters, who snapped countless photos.

Standing from a distance, Bonnie watched them approach, a smile of happiness involuntarily tugging at her lips. She was genuinely happy for Cynthia. Having been through so much herself, she knew how wonderful it was to finally find happiness.

Cynthia, seeing her from afar as she got out of the car, blinked in surprise, then squinted and took another look. She nudged Albert beside her and asked, 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"Albert, is that Bonnie standing at the door?"
