Please Let Me Go, My Contracted Ex-Husband.-Chapter 252- you look so beautiful
Albert squinted and looked over, a bit unsure. He was used to Bonnie’s usually casual, neutral style, so seeing her dressed up like this was almost unrecognizable.
Seeing Albert hesitate, Cynthia quickly linked her arm through his and rushed over. After sizing Bonnie up several times, she exclaimed in complete astonishment,
"Darling, don’t tell me you’re Bonnie?"
Bonnie couldn’t help but roll her eyes dramatically. Cynthia, in her excitement, stammered in disbelief,
"My God! Bonnie, you look so beautiful! You’re like a heavenly beauty—"
After all these years of being friends, Cynthia had never realized Bonnie had such an amazing, feminine side. She just stood there, mouth agape, eyes wide open, staring at her without blinking.
Albert bent down to kiss Cynthia on her soft lips and, in a low voice, reminded her,
"Darling, I think it’s time we head inside."
And because of his affectionate gesture, the reporters went wild, snapping pictures non-stop. His love for her was so genuine and natural, completely unlike the stiff, showy displays of affection often seen from wealthy couples in front of the media. Cynthia, a little embarrassed, pushed him away.
"Albert, could you be a little more mindful of the occasion?" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
The two of them, while playfully teasing each other, said their goodbyes and walked inside. Bonnie smiled slightly, then turned to see him stepping out of the car.
"Please vote for me and support me in all ways possible, this is the last month for ’Squid’, so please lend me your strength!"
He was no exception, standing there just like everyone else, looking at her with a face full of astonishment, his eyes filled with awe and disbelief.
As always, he was dressed in a sharp suit, handsome and elegant, exuding a noble aura that made him shine like a diamond in the crowd.
There was a time when she had been completely captivated by the dashing men in dramas, but she never imagined that one day, when a man like this appeared in her life, she would want to avoid him like the plague.
He stood there, gazing at her through the crowd. For some reason, when other people stared at her like this all evening, she didn’t feel anything, but when he looked at her with just that one glance, it made her uncomfortable all over. She averted her eyes, trying to avoid his gaze.
However, her line of sight was perfectly aligned with Anna, who was getting out of the car, wearing a bright pink sequin short skirt. Her seductive figure, alluring beauty, and sparkling smile immediately caught the attention of the reporters, who started snapping photos frantically.
Anna had been waiting in the car for a while, but when he hadn’t come around to open the door for her, she had to get out on her own. In such occasions, it was a gentlemanly gesture for a man to open the door for a lady, but he had been out of the car for a while and still hadn’t done so. So, she had to get out herself, only to find him standing there, staring off into space, seemingly lost in thought.
Following his gaze, Anna was equally startled. She blinked hard and finally recognized that the woman in question was Bonnie! She hadn’t expected Bonnie to have such a seductive side, and it made her so angry she nearly ground her teeth to dust.
Of course, she couldn’t show any displeasure in such a setting, so she smiled brightly as she walked over, linking her arm through his and leaning into his embrace, acting like a little bird nestling against him.
" shouldn’t we head inside?"
Her reminder was enough to snap James out of his daze. He took one last lingering look at Bonnie, then, with mixed emotions, wrapped his arm around Anna and started walking toward the venue.
Bonnie had really stunned him tonight. This side of her, so alluring and full of charm, was something he had never seen before. She looked graceful, yet distant, the black gown highlighting her slender figure. She seemed like a black swallowtail butterfly emerging from its cocoon.
Even though they had been together for so many years, she had never really dressed up for him. It’s said that women dress up to please the one they love, but Bonnie had never really seemed to care about him in that way, which was probably why she always appeared so carefree and unconcerned.
As he thought about this, a sense of melancholy washed over him. The truth was, he didn’t even need a date tonight. He wasn’t sure why he had agreed to Anna’s request, but it felt like his subconscious desire to draw Bonnie’s attention. How childish of him.
Even though he had Anna on his arm, his gaze never strayed from Bonnie. Even when she deliberately ignored him and chatted with other guests, even when familiar faces greeted him, he paid them no mind.
He didn’t even know how he ended up standing in front of her. She looked up at them, smiling faintly as she greeted them.
"Mr. Boston, Anna, please, come right in. We’ve been waiting for you two!"
Although Bonnie said those words with a smile, deep down, she felt an inexplicable bitterness. Seeing him standing with Anna made her feel like an eyesore.
On the other hand, James was not only getting angrier by the words, but also by the sight. From his angle, he could clearly see her full, fair, and voluptuous chest. The strapless dress was tightly fitted around her chest, making her figure appear even more curvaceous and seductive.
Had she been standing there all night, letting those men ogle her? Especially when she slightly bent down to greet someone, he felt his blood boiling. His face darkened, and his muscles tensed in anger. The only thing he wanted to do right now was to take off his jacket and throw it over her, marking her as his.
Bonnie, irritated by his inexplicable anger, was especially furious when she noticed his gaze fixed on her chest. She cursed him inwardly and shot him a fierce glare before turning her attention to the other guests, refusing to acknowledge him any further.
Anna, who was in his arms, keenly sensed the tension and the ambiguous atmosphere between them. She shot Bonnie a resentful look and tightly pulled James into the venue.
The venue had an open layout, with a stage at the front for the host and guests to speak, and a large banquet hall below. Once the dinner started, Bonnie found a corner to sit down, utterly exhausted.
She really shouldn’t have worn high heels and stood for so long tonight. Her back felt like it was going to break, and she was starving, so she just sat there eating ungracefully.
As she ate, she chatted with the guests at her table. They were mostly the wives or families of male guests, and upon seeing her looking so radiant, they eagerly started trying to set her up with potential suitors, which made her feel embarrassed. She could only awkwardly eat and laugh.
It wasn’t until someone came over with a glass of wine that Bonnie snapped back to her senses. She looked at the large glass of bright red liquid in their hand and immediately felt nauseous. She could only smile apologetically and decline.
"Sorry, I’ve been having some stomach issues lately. How about I substitute with tea instead?"
However, the person wouldn’t give up. Everyone knew that Bonnie was a tough woman, and when they had worked together before, she had outdrunk even the men at the table. So, no one believed she couldn’t drink.
Bonnie’s face showed her dilemma. She didn’t want to offend anyone at a work event, and as she furrowed her brow, unsure of how to handle the situation, a familiar voice and hand appeared beside her.
"Since Bonnie isn’t feeling well, I’ll drink on her behalf."
With a smile, he raised his glass to the person and drank it all in one go. Seeing him step in, the person didn’t push further and simply laughed along.
"Mr. Boston, truly a hero saving the lady!"
"Thank you!"
Bonnie shot him a grateful glance and softly thanked him. He didn’t say anything in response but naturally extended his arm around her and led her to greet the other guests.
She immediately felt Anna’s resentful gaze coming from the distance. Bonnie awkwardly struggled for a moment, but the hand around her shoulder didn’t loosen; if anything, it tightened. She didn’t know why he suddenly started acting this way toward her, but in this public setting, she couldn’t argue with him. So, she reluctantly let him keep his arm around her.
Later, she realized that he was doing this to block all the alcohol for her. In the past, she had always been the one drinking heartily and accompanying everyone during the annual meetings. But this year, she had quieted down, and the guests were growing increasingly dissatisfied.
