Chapter 256: Chapter 256- It’s all your fault!

After she finished yelling, she stood there panting heavily, but her gaze toward him was full of hostility and caution, as if she had turned into a little hedgehog, bristling with spikes. He couldn’t help but soften his tone.

"Who told you we got divorced?"

Bonnie was deeply disgusted by his blatant lies. It was obviously he who had proposed the divorce, and she had already signed the papers. Yet, here he was, asking who told her they were divorced.

She wiped the tears from her face with a hand and stubbornly said,

"Sorry, I’ll leave first. I have nothing to discuss with you!"

Then she turned to leave.

"Bonnie!"

He called her name painfully, then reached out to grab her.

"I didn’t sign that divorce agreement!"

"What did you say?"

Bonnie turned around in shock and demanded an explanation.

James quietly tightened his grip on her arm, his face slightly uneasy, but he steeled himself and spoke up.

"I mean, that agreement only has your signature on it, so it’s still not valid. And the one you signed, I’ve already torn it up. So, you’re still my wife!"

He admitted that he was selfish. Although it was he who had proposed the divorce, it was a momentary fit of emotion. He couldn’t bear to let her go, but he couldn’t bring himself to face her, so selfishly, he never signed the agreement.

Bonnie trembled with anger at his words.

"James, you’re despicable! You’re shameless!"

How could he not have signed it? Had she been acting all alone for all these days? Thankfully, she was just pregnant and not remarried. If she had been remarried and had gone to register, only to be told that she was still legally married, she might have had a breakdown.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, and with all her strength, she shoved him away. She turned to leave, but unexpectedly, her push made his tall body stumble backward, and he fell straight to the smooth floor.

Startled, she couldn’t even process what had just happened. Just moments ago, they had been arguing fiercely. Panicked, she rushed over to help him up. His body was too heavy, and she struggled to hold him, staggering several steps before managing to stand still.

Maybe she didn’t even realize it, but her reckless dash to protect him showed that she still cared for him. The more unconscious her actions were, the more it revealed her concern, her deep worry.

To avoid hurting her, James struggled to steady himself and reached out to wrap his arms around her. Although Bonnie was still worried about him, she didn’t let him off the hook.

"What’s wrong with you? Did you spend the whole night partying?"

Taking advantage of her pause, he tightly held her in his arms and rested his chin on her shoulder. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"Yeah, I spent the whole night loitering under some woman’s building, didn’t have breakfast, and was both scared and angry. Do you think I wouldn’t faint?"

Having not slept all night, and then being stunned by the surprise of her pregnancy earlier, followed by their argument, James felt a wave of dizziness. He staggered and almost collapsed to the ground.

However, the way she rushed over to support him filled him with joy. The pent-up frustration that had been weighing on his heart these past days was shattered by her small, simple gesture. Could it be that... she actually cared about him?

Bonnie was shocked when she heard what he said. Although he mentioned some woman, given the current situation, she certainly wouldn’t assume he was waiting under another woman’s building.

Thinking about how he must have been in the car, waiting there, made her heart uneasy. But when she thought about his actions, her anger flared, and she scolded him,

"You’re insane! It’s all your fault!"

Seeing that her attitude wasn’t as harsh as before, James lifted his head from her shoulder and gently cupped her face, speaking earnestly,

"Bonnie, let’s stop fighting, okay? Come back to me, let me take care of you and our baby."

He liked calling her Bonnie, didn’t want to call her by any other name. He thought "Bonnie" was such a beautiful name, and every time he whispered it, his heart overflowed with love for her.

But she wouldn’t have it. She said calling her "Bonnie" was too cheesy and made her break out in goosebumps. At first, she’d forced him to call her by it, threatening to give him the silent treatment and not let him touch her if he didn’t. So, he had to give in.

Bonnie pushed him away.

"James, you don’t have to say all this just for the child. I can take care of the baby myself. Of course, the baby is a Boston family heir, so if you really want him back, I’ll give him to your Boston family to raise after he’s born!"

"Bonnie, is this the kind of image I have in your heart after all these years?"

James was furious, his anger making his dizziness worse. He had to raise his hand to rub his forehead, shaking his head forcefully to clear his mind.

Bonnie glanced at him, then said, "I still have work to do, I’ll be going. You should go rest."

Without waiting for a reply, she turned and walked quickly out of the room, leaving James fuming behind her, grinding his teeth in anger.

He didn’t chase after her because he knew he needed a good rest. He needed to sleep, recharge, and gather the energy to deal with her. With that thought, he rubbed his forehead and tiredly walked toward the lounge.

He hadn’t taken more than a few steps when the phone on the desk rang. Weak and irritable, he picked it up. His assistant’s excited voice came through.

"Sir, the director’s wife just ordered breakfast for you!"

A sly glint flashed in his eyes, and his mood lifted as he gave the assistant instructions.

"Have her bring it to me later. Tell her that if she doesn’t bring it, I won’t eat!"

"Got it!"

The assistant’s voice was full of enthusiasm, and with that, James walked into the lounge, satisfied, ready to lie down and wait for his late breakfast. He wondered if, just maybe, he’d also get to experience the return of the love he had been waiting for.
