Possessed No More: The True Star Returns to Claim Her Throne-Chapter 127: What Did I Do Wrong?
Only then did Riley Perry have a moment to properly look around the villa. The style of decoration was vastly different from before. Her previous villa and apartment had been dominated by shades of gray, white, and black, but this one immediately gave off a distinctly bright and airy feeling, the very picture of luxury and elegance.
Through the living room’s enormous floor-to-ceiling windows, she could see a glass conservatory where roses were in full, gorgeous bloom, their petals a fiery red.
Riley Perry asked the young maid, "Can I pick the flowers in the conservatory?"
The maid nodded. "Of course. Miss Perry, would you like me to cut some for you?"
Riley Perry was already on her feet. "No, thank you. I’ll do it myself."
The young maid followed her. Riley Perry struck up a conversation and learned a few things about her. Her name was Lynn Bell, and she was a graduate of a prestigious university. She had only been working at the villa for a few days. She had majored in management and minored in horticulture, which was why she was usually the one tending to the rose garden.
"Roses usually bloom in May or June, but this conservatory has the most advanced climate-control technology. We can get them to bloom twice a year and even extend the flowering period for some varieties. These four-season roses, for example, can keep blooming for at least another two weeks. Without the conservatory, their season would be long over."
Lynn Bell then went on to introduce each variety of rose to Riley Perry. "These few that haven’t flowered yet are Juliet roses. I heard Mr. Sinclair spent a fortune on them. They should bloom around April or May of next year."
Riley Perry had already picked up a pair of shears and started snipping. She didn’t care whether the roses were precious or rare; if she liked the look of one, she cut it. Of course, she didn’t go overboard—just nine blossoms.
She lowered her head to take a gentle sniff, her face a mask of pure bliss. "So fragrant."
Upstairs, Eric Sinclair watched the scene unfold, a smile playing on his lips. ’I knew it,’ he thought. ’A woman as fiery as she is would naturally love flame-red roses. It was worth choosing this villa after all.’
When she came out of the conservatory, lunch was ready. Riley Perry took out her phone to call him down, only to find she couldn’t get through to Cole Sinclair’s number.
Not feeling like going up herself, she asked Lynn Bell to go get him. Before Lynn could even step into the elevator, however, Eric Sinclair came downstairs on his own.
The moment Riley Perry saw him, she pouted, turned on her heel, and marched straight into the kitchen, completely ignoring Eric Sinclair.
The smile on Eric Sinclair’s face froze, then immediately softened into another one. ’Women truly are a mystery,’ he mused. ’She just gets angry for no reason at all.’
They entered the dining room one after the other. The table was laden with a feast. Riley Perry waited for him to sit down before shooting him another glare, then she picked up her chopsticks and started eating.
Eric Sinclair found her pouty, indignant expression rather cute. He took the initiative and placed a shrimp in her bowl.
"Hey, why’d you give this to me?"
Eric Sinclair frowned. "What, you don’t like shrimp?" ’That can’t be right,’ he thought. ’I remember her eating a ton of it on the variety show last night.’ 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Of course I like it. But I hate peeling them. My hands get all messy, and no matter how many times I wash them, I feel like I can’t get rid of the fishy smell."
"Then why did you eat so many last night?"
Riley Perry said matter-of-factly, "Because Director Warren was footing the bill. Of course I had to eat as much as possible to get my money’s worth."
’So when you’re out and there’s no one to wait on you, you’re perfectly self-sufficient. But the second you get home, you start playing the princess.’
Despite his internal grumbling, his hands were honest. By the time Riley Perry looked up again, he had already pulled on a pair of disposable gloves and was peeling shrimp for her.
The Ayr Jade on Riley Perry’s wrist: ’...’ ’As expected. My master is unstoppable. It’s only been a few days, and she already has this Mr. Sinclair completely wrapped around her little finger.’
Seeing the plate of freshly peeled shrimp appear beside her, Riley Perry looked up and batted her eyelashes at Eric Sinclair. "Mr. Sinclair, you’re the best."
’So that’s all it takes? I just have to peel shrimp for you?’
He cleared his throat, a little embarrassed. Remembering the glares from before, Eric Sinclair couldn’t help but ask, "Why were you glaring at me earlier?"
Ignoring the maids still lingering nearby, Riley Perry said something that made Eric Sinclair blush to the roots of his hair. "They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. I can let it slide when we’re out, but now that we’re home, you’re still sleeping in a separate bed. Tell me, are you seeing another woman?"
The surrounding maids beat a hasty retreat. ’Nope, nope, nope. This is definitely not a conversation they can listen to for free.’
This was going to be the death of them!
To his surprise, Eric Sinclair felt a flicker of guilt. ’Wait, I don’t have another woman. So why do I feel guilty?’
’No, that’s not right—I’ve never even been with a woman!’
"What are you talking about?"
Riley Perry took a vicious bite of shrimp and swallowed it down. "How is that nonsense? You never used to be like this. Before, the moment you saw me, you wanted to kiss and cuddle and hold me. Now you can’t wait to get away from me. If you’re tired of me, just say so. I can leave."
Eric Sinclair felt terribly wronged. "I’m not! There’s no one else! Stop making things up!"
"Hmph! Still won’t admit it? The one thing I can’t stand is a two-timer, and I refuse to be with a scumbag. I’m leaving."
With that, she slammed her chopsticks on the table and made to leave.
Eric Sinclair quickly grabbed her. ’If I really let her leave, won’t he go absolutely insane when he wakes up?!’
Pulling her to a stop, Eric Sinclair pleaded, "Can you please not threaten to leave at the slightest disagreement? Even when you’re being unreasonable, you have to be a little bit reasonable, right?"
Riley Perry struggled to hold back a laugh. ’Mr. Sinclair, are you even listening to yourself right now?’
She pried his hand off her arm and took two steps back before saying, "Don’t get handsy. Men and women should keep their distance."
Eric Sinclair was so frustrated he started scratching his head, the mature, composed facade he’d maintained in front of Riley Perry completely crumbling. He pressed his palms together in a pleading gesture. "I was wrong, alright? I’m sorry. I’m sincerely sorry."
Riley Perry put her hands on her hips. "Oh yeah? Then tell me, what exactly are you sorry for?"
Eric Sinclair: ’...’ ’I’d like to know what I did wrong, too!’
...
In the end, Riley Perry left anyway. Her reasoning: women are illogical. A man who apologizes without even knowing what he did wrong clearly isn’t being sincere!
She had already called Samson Sinclair and asked him to come pick her up.
Her family would be arriving in Dragonspire soon, and she needed to get the apartment set up first.
She went to her apartment at The Elysian Gardens first. Rocco was already waiting there. The three of them made a list of everything they needed, and they would buy whatever was on it.
After spending the better part of the day running around, they finally had everything bought and set up. Riley Perry collapsed onto the sofa. "I don’t want to go back. How about the three of us have hot pot here tonight?"
Samson Sinclair: "...What about the Young Master? Is it really okay for you not to go back?"
Riley Perry waved a dismissive hand. "I can’t even get through to his number anymore. He clearly doesn’t care, so why shouldn’t I stay?"
Samson Sinclair: ’...’ ’Why wouldn’t the Young Master even give Miss Perry his number?’
"I... I have his number right here."
Riley Perry shot him a vicious glare. "So, are you saying you’re closer to your Young Master than he is to me?"
Samson Sinclair fell silent.
He was afraid that one more word would only make Miss Perry even angrier.
"You go buy the groceries," she ordered. "I like crown daisy and enoki mushrooms. Get plenty of fatty beef slices. You two can pick out the rest. Rocco, you go make the dough. I’m craving some hand-pulled noodle flakes."
