Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Joining the Cast

Riley Perry: ...Just another day of being jealous of my friends.

Before going to sleep, Riley Perry didn’t forget to report her schedule to her sponsor. At that moment, Cole Sinclair was on a plane to Continent F. He didn’t see the message until after he landed.

But he had no chance to reply, because he sensed something was wrong at the airport as soon as he deplaned.

Things were chaotic in Continent F. The subordinates sent to pick him up had run into trouble on the way, but luckily, they still managed to arrive before his plane landed.

"Sir, we need to leave immediately. Your itinerary may have been leaked. We were attacked on the road. Fourth led them away with some of our men."

Once they were in the bulletproof SUV, Alan Lane quickly explained the situation.

A ruthless glint shone in Cole Sinclair’s eyes. He took off his suit jacket, tossed it aside, and picked up his phone to check the navigation. "If they have the guts to show up, they won’t be leaving. Lead them here."

Alan Lane glanced at the location and said, "Understood." He then took out his phone to issue the orders.

They had been through scenes like this far too many times, so Alan Lane was unfazed. ’That’s just how business is. The more you make, the greater the risk. Risk and reward are always proportional.’

The SUV had already left the airport. Less than two minutes later, several cars began to pursue them from behind. BANG! Their vehicle took a bullet. Although the rear window didn’t shatter, it definitely wouldn’t hold for much longer.

The other cars on the road were so frightened by the gunfight that they scrambled to get as far away as possible. Soon, the road ahead and behind them was clear.

"Turn left up ahead. Have the other cars spread out. I’d like to see just who’s so eager to take me out!"

Hearing the order, the driver immediately spun the wheel and took the next exit.

The ambush lasted for nearly an hour, only ending when Cole Sinclair led them into a pre-arranged trap.

"Kill them all."

Standing in the shadows, Cole Sinclair calmly watched as his men dragged the assassins out of their cars one by one and sent them on their way.

These were all professional assassins, merely executors of a task. They had no idea who the client was. Interrogating them would be a waste of time.

’Might as well just send them on their way. Otherwise, it would be a waste of food to keep them alive.’

He took the wet wipe Alan Lane handed him and cleaned each of his ten fingers. Strangely, he felt no discomfort this time. He even found himself thinking of Riley Perry. ’If that woman knew what I just went through, would she be too scared to stay by my side?’

’Probably?’

’After all, even his own mother grew distant from him.’

’Besides, she’s just a lover I’m keeping on a contract. Once it expires, we’ll have nothing more to do with each other.’

’At this moment, he even felt a little grateful. Thank God he was rich. Otherwise, their paths might never have even crossed!’

He carelessly tossed the used wipe aside, took the jacket his subordinate handed him, calmly put it on, and then got in the car and left.

「The next day.」

Riley Perry arrived early on the set of *Immortal Demon Tribulation*. Director Miles’s assistant had been briefed in advance, and upon seeing her, he immediately pulled her aside and spoke in a low voice. "Your first scene of the day will start shooting as soon as your makeup is done. We’re already more than halfway through filming the series, but all the previously shot scenes have to be scrapped and redone. So, for the next few days, we’ll be rushing to film all your parts. It’s going to be a lot of work for you, Miss Perry."

Riley Perry: "I get paid to do a job. Isn’t that how it’s supposed to be? It’s no trouble at all!"

After observing Riley Perry’s expression, Assistant Shaw added a reminder. "Director Miles wanted me to let you know, the person you’ll have the most scenes with is Best Actor Hughes. That man..." The assistant mentally searched for the right words. "Best Actor Hughes has an aversion to women, and he especially dislikes any physical contact with them outside of filming. If anyone crosses that line, he can become very frightening. So, Miss Perry, you understand what I mean, right?"

Riley Perry had already looked up the main cast of the production. The female lead was Best Actress Felix Sherman. She had very few scandals and had been married three years ago to someone from the prestigious Sayne Family of Serenity City.

However, the marriage only lasted a year and ended after she gave birth to a daughter. She is now raising the child herself.

This was her comeback project after having her child. She also seemed to have some kind of relationship with Samuel Hughes, but the specifics couldn’t be found online.

She was just doing a simple background check on her temporary colleagues, so she hadn’t dug any deeper.

As for this Top Actor Hughes, he was on another level entirely.

The three most prestigious domestic film awards plus Cannes—he’d won them all. He had so many awards it was impossible to count. He was also an overseas Chinese from Country S, and his father was the richest man there. He was a true heir to a fortune, but it wasn’t one of those tropes where he’d have to inherit a trillion-dollar family business if he failed at acting. In fact, he had already taken over the family enterprise; he only accepted this film to repay a favor.

His top fans were guessing that he might retire from the industry after this series.

That’s right—Riley Perry had previously managed to infiltrate Best Actor Hughes’s top fan group. She couldn’t help it. His lead fans were all loaded and were constantly handing out cash gifts. She really couldn’t resist the temptation of free money, so she became a fake fan!

And that was how she learned a lot of inside gossip about the Best Actor.

He might seem as noble and gentle as a saint, but in reality, he was incredibly high-maintenance: a germaphobe, a misogynist, a picky eater, and supposedly, he even had claustrophobia...

In the past, many actresses had recklessly tried to get Best Actor Hughes’s attention. Unfortunately, once they angered him, they either ended up retiring from the industry or getting blacklisted. In any case, none of them met a good end.

Therefore, Riley Perry had already made up her mind: outside of filming, she would stay far, far away from the esteemed Best Actor.

Riley Perry nodded. "Understood. Don’t worry, I definitely won’t be trying to get close to Best Actor Hughes."

Assistant Shaw was satisfied. Just then, his phone rang. He pointed toward the changing rooms. "You know which scene you’re filming today, right? Go get changed first, then head to the makeup room. Hurry up, and don’t keep Best Actor Hughes waiting."

Her first scene of the day was with the male lead. Samuel Hughes might be a handful, but he was also truly professional. In all his years in the industry, he had apparently never pulled rank or been late. That meant Samuel Hughes was already here, probably getting his makeup and styling done at this very moment.

Assistant Shaw left after saying his piece. Riley Perry went to the changing room by herself. When she pushed open the door, she saw the outer area was filled with men’s costumes. Assuming her costume was in the inner section, she walked straight to the area separated by a curtain. But the moment she parted it, she froze on the spot.

The faint morning light filtered in through a window, a single beam landing on a chair in the middle of the room.

And on that chair sat a man—an exceptionally handsome one. He had a high-bridged nose, sensual lips, and eyes that seemed naturally full of emotion, making it easy for one to get lost in them. Yet, the aura he exuded was one of extreme indifference. This contradictory combination was irresistibly attractive, yet it also warned people not to get too close.

’She really didn’t dare get any closer!’

Because that whole description above? None of it was the main point. The main point was that this man was currently half-naked!
