Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse-Chapter 144: Expansion 3
Half an hour later, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu stood at the edge of the playground.
The lot was about ten thousand square metres, had a makeshift goalpost on two sides, and several benches on the other two sides.
From all indications, it was a small playground for local children to play on during the holidays and after school.
However, as the scout mentioned, the field was covered in green grass, and its blades were lazily swaying with the winter breeze.
’How long has it been since we saw such an idyllic scenery?’ Qin Wu thought and subconsciously sighed.
She hated to destroy the scenery but knew it was necessary.
After all, beautiful things were often the most dangerous.
Thinking of this, she looked around and, after making sure they were alone, she removed a live chicken from her space and threw it onto the field.
Simultaneously, the surrounding grass shook, stiffened and became sharper than nails.
A moment later, the grass pierced the chicken and sucked its body, not leaving a drop of blood or a piece of feather.
Qin Wu shuddered when she saw this.
’Beautiful but cruel.’ She thought and turned to Mo Chenxuan.
"What do you think?" She asked.
"The grass is one organism." Mo Chenxuan said and pointed at the field centre.
At a glance, the central grass was indistinguishable from the rest, but after taking a closer look, Qin Wu noticed it was a tad darker, thicker, and taller.
"It’s the boss?" She asked, and Mo Chenxuan nodded before speaking.
"It was the first to react to the live chicken, and only after it shook, did the nearest grass blades attack."
After that, the two did a few tests and confirmed Mo Chenxuan’s speculation.
"Metal ability mutated grass." Qin Wu sighed.
"Fire overcomes metal. Let’s try my fire ability.’
While speaking, Mo Chenxuan condensed a ball of fire in his palm and threw it onto the field.
As expected, the grass caught fire and immediately started melting.
However, it was snowing, and there were ten thousand square metres of grass.
After burning for less than a minute, the fire went out, but left a blemish on the idyllic scenery.
"I don’t know if an accelerant will work?" Qin Wu wondered, removed a bottle of paraffin from her space and poured it on the nearby grass.
"Try again." She said, and Mo Chenxuan did so.
This time, the fire burned further and longer, but it still went out after five minutes.
However, this outcome was enough to confirm that accelerants were useful in burning the grass.
After that, Qin Wu dug out a sprinkler from her space, connected it to a tank of paraffin and opened the tap.
Half an hour later, the entire playground was doused in paraffin, and Qin Wu nodded in satisfaction.
"Your turn." She said.
Hearing this, Mo Chenxuan began throwing balls of fire onto the field.
Wherever a ball fell, a fire lit and quickly spread to the surrounding grass.
In this way, the idyllic scenery turned into a sea of fire, and Qin Wu couldn’t help but feel a little regretful.
The fire burned for four hours.
During that time, the other teams completed their mission and returned to their leaders’ side.
"I can’t believe it burned for so long." Someone said, looking at the blackened playground.
"Mutated plants usually have more than one crystal core. I wonder how many boss Mo and boss Qin will collect from this field."
"It should be thousands."
"They are so lucky."
"Lucky?" Someone sneered and stared at their companion.
"Do you think an ordinary fire can burn a level three mutated plant? Boss Mo should have exhausted his lightning ability to start such a big fire."
"Now that you mention it..."
As the spectators were talking, Mo Chenxuan and Qin Wu began collecting the crystal cores.
Fortunately, the mutated grass didn’t disappoint them, and they eventually collected one level three crystal core, four hundred and sixteen level two, and fifty-seven thousand level one.
"It’s a good harvest." Qin Wu said in a happy voice.
"It’s indeed a good harvest, but neither of us needs plant-type and metal-type crystal cores for the time being."
"There is that." Qin Wu sighed.
After that, everyone got into their cars and drove to the campsite, ready for a hot meal and good rest.
The next day was simpler.
Although they encountered more zombies, they didn’t encounter mutated plants, animals, or insects.
Time passed in this way, and before they knew it, it was the seventh day of the expansion.
At this time, several base leaders sat around a conference table and listened to a report.
"The base army has cleaned up one hundred and forty acres over the past seven days." The speaker said, and the leaders nodded in satisfaction.
"One hundred and forty acres is good progress." Xuanyuan Qi said, prompting his assistant to continue reporting.
"Of the other factions, the Chu family has made the best progress and has already cleared thirty-seven acres."
Hearing this, everyone looked at General Chu, and the old man smiled with a polite expression.
"The most surprising is the Human Alliance." The assistant continued.
Excluding the base army, the other territory factions were the Xuanyuan, Chu, Fang, Wei, and Qin families, the Seven Clans Alliance, the Superpower Guild, Team Legends, and the Human Alliance.
The Human Alliance was the exact opposite of the Superpower Guild.
Where the guild only had ability users, the Human Alliance only had ordinary survivors.
Unexpectedly, this unremarkable alliance not only purchased sixty-five acres of territory but was also doing better than most of the other factions.
"How far have they progressed?" General Wei asked.
"Twenty-eight acres. They are better than the Superpower Guild and the Seven Clans Alliance."
"What about Team Legends?" Someone asked.
"Thirty-one acres." The assistant said, causing several leaders to narrow their eyes in thought.
"Team Legends and the Human Alliance are quite surprising. They seem to have come out of nowhere." Someone commented.
On the surface, this was an offhand statement.
However, on closer inspection, it was a loaded observation.
