Rebirth, Seduce My Ex-husband-Chapter 64: Fire Disaster 2
Vanessa reluctantly got things ready for the dinner. She invited her mom and her sister, and Catherine invited the one person she knew was close enough to be considered family.
Soon it was seven, and Vanessa was getting dressed.
She was wearing a dark red, simple gown with just a piece of jewelry, simple and elegant.
Just as she was trying to get the zipper up, she had a nail breakage and groaned in pain. "Shit! Ouch..."
Meanwhile, watching her from behind was Rowen, who smiled as he walked toward her, helping her zip up her dress, taking her by surprise.
"You know you should knock before entering," she said, turning around.
"I am your husband, and this is our bedroom. I don’t think I need to knock before entering. And anyway, what are you hiding that I haven’t seen yet?"
He smirked as Vanessa just rolled her eyes and walked away, but was pulled back by Rowen.
He held her by her waist as their faces inched closer. "I know my mother can be difficult sometimes. After everything you did before, she just can’t seem to trust you anymore. But don’t worry, she’ll learn... they always do."
Vanessa pushed him away. "Maybe she may come around, but I’m not sure it’s going to be anytime soon with Stacy around."
Just then, a knock was heard as a maid stood outside. "Miss Quinn, the dining room is all set,"
she informed, and Vanessa nodded. "Good, now go get Miss Myers from the guest house..."
Vanessa instructed, and the maid nodded and made her way out.
Soon, the guests arrived, and Vanessa went down to greet her mother.
Hugging her daughter softly, Linda didn’t seem quite happy. "Vanessa, Kami told me about everything... how do you feel?"
She asked as she monitored Vanessa, her expression wavering slightly. "How else am I supposed to feel, Mother... I just have to tolerate it all maturely. It’s not that easy though."
She said, a tear leaving her eye, as Linda hugged her once more to comfort her.
"Don’t worry, you’ll make it through... I promise you."
After the whole mother and daughter moment, they all went to the dining table.
It was filled with so much food that it looked like a family feast, not a family dinner. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Stepping into the dining room was a tall and slender-looking brunette-haired woman. She was dressed in long brown pants and a dark green shirt.
"Everyone, meet my sister, Patricia. I’m sure most of you remember her... she came for Rowen and Vanessa’s first wedding,"
Catherine informed them with a smile on her face.
Seeing her, Vanessa didn’t react much. She knew Patricia, but not too well. On their wedding day, she was just busy taking one phone call after another, not even paying attention. She hoped she wouldn’t ruin the dinner with her excessive phone calls.
"So, since we are all here, let’s begin the dinner," they all announced, but Catherine cut them off.
"Wait a second, where is Stacy, darling? I can’t find her anywhere." She turned to Vanessa. "Didn’t I tell you to make sure Stacy is present here for the dinner? Don’t tell me you stopped the poor girl from coming here."
She nagged, and her words just changed Vanessa’s mood. "I am not her mother. If she wants to come, then she would come... it’s none of my business."
Vanessa snapped as she took a sip of her drink, ignoring Catherine.
"Y-you? Rowen?" Catherine called out to her son, and Rowen immediately tried to calm them down before any other fight took place.
"Mother, don’t worry. Vanessa already sent some maids to get her. She will be here soon; she’s probably getting ready,"
he said as Catherine just rolled her eyes in annoyance.
"And was that so hard for your wife to say?" she defended.
The room soon became quite awkward as Mariam and Kami exchanged looks.
"Well... let’s eat, right? The food seems so delicious. Vanessa really put in work in this," Kami said with a smile.
"Hmm... it’s really delicious," Mariam joined in, as they both tried to lighten up the mood.
But Catherine wasn’t done with her rants. "Why give her the compliment? It’s not like she was the one who cooked all this... it’s probably the maids."
But Linda cut in, "Actually, you’re wrong, Catherine."
Everyone turned to face her.
"Wrong? What do you mean?" Catherine felt offended.
"You may not know this, but this is my daughter’s style of roasting meat. She is almost fond of peeling the main skin to let the ingredients sink into the main flesh. Vanessa must have cooked everything on this table. Isn’t that lovely of her?"
Linda said, smiling as Vanessa smiled back. The room became more lively.
But Linda’s face changed instantly. "Many things have happened in the space of just three months. My Vanessa has changed, and Rowen and she are now back together, ready to make their relationship work."
She turned to Catherine. "We, as the adults, should be the ones supporting them and teaching them the right things. But you, Catherine, seem to want to ruin what they have built, which is quite saddening for a woman who was once married, yourself."
Linda snapped her words sharply, leaving Catherine utterly speechless.
And so was everyone present, as even Vanessa didn’t know what to say. She knew well her mother had a bad temper, and she had been wanting to say something but chose to keep quiet.
Unfortunately for Catherine, she let out the anger in her.
Smacking the table hard, Catherine stood up, angry. "How dare you talk to me like that? Now I know where your daughter got that bad attitude of hers from."
She shouted back as Linda stood up as well. "And I surely know where your son got his cheating attitude from as well. You speak as though you were ever faithful to your husband, yet you treat my daughter so badly."
They both argued as Vanessa and Rowen just exchanged looks, both of them unaware of how to calm them both down.
"Wait... what’s that smell?"
Patricia asked, and just then, a group of maids and Vivian rushed in, all of them literally panicking at the moment.
"Fire! Fire! Sir, madam... there is a fire!"
They announced, and Catherine and Linda, who were busy fighting, immediately stopped as Rowen and the rest stood up.
"Fire!? Where?" Vanessa asked, panicking as well.
"At the guest house!"
