Chapter 63: Fire Disaster 1

"Oh really, are you talking about the same thing your husband did to you?"

Vanessa’s words pierced Catherine’s skin as she felt like exploding at that moment.

"Vanessa, that’s enough! Both of you! Fighting and arguing won’t change anything."

He tried to stop them, but Catherine pulled out her crying Sega. "You watch your wife insult me and you don’t say anything? What kind of son are you?"

Catherine cried as Rowen sighed. "Mother, don’t get too worked up. Vanessa didn’t mean what she said. She was just angry... now just relax."

He said as he held his mother, trying to calm her down, while Vanessa just rolled her eyes at Catherine’s childish tactics.

"For a daughter-in-law to speak to her mother-in-law that way is truly saddening."

A familiar voice was heard as Stacy walked into the living room. Dressed in a brown free gown, her hair was packed in a neat bun, making her look mature.

"What the hell are you doing here, Stacy? This isn’t the place for you to speak!" Rowen snapped, annoyed at her presence.

Meanwhile, upon laying her eyes on Stacy, Catherine immediately walked toward her. "Are you the one pregnant for my son?"

Catherine asked, obviously impressed by her beauty. Smiling, Stacy nodded gently. "Yes, I am, Mrs. Quinn. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to welcome you when you arrived. I came as soon as I heard you were here... but it seems like I interrupted you all. I’ll take my leave if my presence is not needed."

She said as she tried to turn around, but Catherine stopped her immediately. "What are you saying? Of course you are needed. In fact, I was just asking about you. I’ve been wanting to see you, and I have to say, you look so much better than I had imagined."

"Thank you," she blushed.

Just then, Vanessa’s voice was heard. "The last time I checked, you were at the guest house. I don’t know the reason why you are here, Stacy... Should I remind you that this house isn’t somewhere you can enter and leave however you want?"

Vanessa said as she walked toward them with her arms crossed, her face not smiling at all.

"I’m sorry, Vanessa. I wasn’t aware that I was restricted from stepping foot into the main mansion. Now that I know... I’ll surely not bother you all again."

She said, feigning innocence, as her words made Catherine’s heart melt.

Frowning, she turned toward Vanessa as she shouted, "Why is she staying at the guest house? Isn’t she pregnant for Rowen? She is supposed to stay here and be well taken care of and monitored."

Turning to Rowen, Catherine continued, "Don’t forget she is pregnant with your child. You can’t just watch this wife of yours treat her anyhow she likes... You have to take good care of her, Rowen."

Before Rowen could respond, Vanessa defended, "Shelter, food, clothes, money... she is given everything any woman in her condition would need. She is given a monthly allowance and personal maids to help her with anything she needs."

"She doesn’t have to lift a finger, and her belly will be well fed. She will be given the best clothes and will be visited regularly by maternity doctors. When you define ’taking good care of her,’ Mother, I hope it’s not in the sense of wanting her to come in between me and my husband, because that will not be tolerated."

Vanessa said, her voice loud and firm, as Catherine blinked slightly, taken aback by Vanessa’s words.

"Well, you could have just said so. No need to be so arrogant about it."

Catherine rolled her eyes as she turned back to Stacy.

"Don’t worry, dear. When I return, I’ll take you out for some shopping... In fact, Rowen is supposed to do that. As the father, he is supposed to go baby clothes shopping with you and attend yoga classes too... Rowen, don’t forget to do all these. Stacy should be your main priority for now."

Catherine said as she eyed Vanessa, who didn’t even give a damn about her at the moment.

Sighing, Rowen was feeling a headache from all this drama, though he knew he was the one who caused it.

"Mother, if that is all, you can go now... I have things to do, and I’m sure Vanessa does as well."

He said, taking hold of Vanessa’s hand as she just frowned, resisting his grip, but he took her either way.

"Stop! I didn’t just come here to meet you and beautiful Stacy. I also came here to inform this wife of yours to get ready for a dinner party tonight," she revealed.

"Dinner party? What dinner party?" Vanessa asked, obviously unaware of what Catherine was talking about.

"Well, you and Rowen got married a month ago without even throwing a proper wedding. If you guys want to be recognized as a couple again before my eyes, then we have to have a proper wedding. But first, I want there to be a small family dinner. Invite your parents and family... Tonight by eight, we will begin. Don’t disappoint me, Vanessa."

Catherine said, then turned to Stacy. "I’ll surely see you there too, darling."

"Me?" Stacy asked. "I’m not a member of this family. I probably shouldn’t go."

"Nonsense!" Catherine disagreed. "You are pregnant for my son, making you a member of my family. Even if you and Rowen don’t get married, you will be the mother to one of my grandchildren. You are almost a part of this family."

"W-well... that, I’m not sure if Vanessa would agree..." Stacy said as she smiled awkwardly, making Vanessa just scoff in disgust and amazement at how good her acting was.

"Why would I have an issue? If your child’s grandmother wants you to attend the stupid family function, then you are free. After all, I would love my mother to see how disgusting her son-in-law and his mistress are."

Vanessa said as she turned around and left, leaving them alone in the living room.

Before leaving, Catherine said to Rowen, "You better learn how to keep that wife of yours in check. Make sure her jealousy doesn’t get the best of her so she won’t try to harm your child."

"Ma! You are thinking too far. Vanessa isn’t jealous, she’s just angry... she won’t do anything to Stacy."

"Really? Then keep watching, and don’t say I didn’t warn you!"

And with that, she turned around and left, as did Stacy soon after. Leaving Rowen to sigh. Just day one, and the drama was already choking. He couldn’t help but wonder how tonight’s dinner was going to turn out.
