Chapter 33: Torture and death

In the next moment, the woman disappeared, and a mirror appeared in front of Luciana; she saw herself wearing a wedding dress and descending from a carriage. She realized she could understand what was going on as if she were the person in the mirror.

She was a faraway princess who had arrived in a new country to marry the prince. The design of the dress, the hairstyle, the buildings, and the decorations reminded her of the drawings in the ancient scrolls and history books.

Everything looked very ancient as if the timeline was thousands of years ago. This version of Luciana looked beautiful, just like the woman she had been speaking to, but she was younger, about 15 summers old.

They arrived at the palace, and her husband gave her his hand and helped her down the carriage. She stared at everything and everyone with curiosity and naivety.

She was not even paying attention to the man who had been watching all the expressions on her face with a subtle smile on his face.

"Princess Luciana, you don’t know how happy I am that you are finally my wife. I promise you, I’ll treat you well. Meet Nicholas, my closest brother and trusted friend," he said.

When Luciana heard the name Nicholas, she instinctively raised her gaze to take a look, and she froze when she saw him. His dark, long hair cascaded down his tanned skin like waves of midnight framing a masculine face. He looked tall, cold, and indifferent but devilishly handsome. She quickly averted her gaze as she stared into his piercing eyes, with her heart hammering in her chest until he bowed slightly to greet her.

"Welcome, Princess Luciana; I’m Prince Nicholas, the commander of the army and the brother of your husband, Crown Prince David Ashter," Nicholas said respectfully.

That was when Luciana realized something was amiss; why was Nicholas standing before her and not beside her? She raised her gaze to look at her husband and had the shock of her life; it was David, the current 2nd Prince of Gloryland.

She had yet to come to her senses when the scene in the mirror changed. The new crown princess consort was walking in the palace when she heard some sounds behind the garden. She approached where the sound was coming from to see what was happening and saw her husband, David, in another woman’s arms.

She could remember the girl anywhere; it was Evelyn, and they were kissing. The young princess looked hurt and turned away, not wanting to humiliate herself and be seen by them. Taking slow steps, she retracted her steps as quietly as possible.

However, she didn’t watch where she was going and tumbled forward. She was about to fall when a hand came around her waist and prevented her from falling. Her breath hitched as his familiar scent enveloped her, and she stared into her piercing dark eyes. She wanted to speak, but he placed a finger on her lips.

And gestured with his eyes that David was standing behind them. One could feel the sparks between the both of them even at that little gesture.

The scene changed again, and this time, it was nighttime, and she saw the young princess’s consort sneaking around the palace as if she didn’t want anyone to see her; she kept her footsteps light, and when she saw a maid approaching her, she did something and became invisible; the maid passed by without realizing the princess was standing there in the corridor.

After the maid left, she continued on her way until she approached a small courtyard that was away from the main palace. She gently tapped the door, and it swung open a few minutes after she knocked.

"My love, you came," Nicholas’ face, full of joy, was what came into her view.

The young princess looked nervous as she quietly approached him and entered the residence with him, closing the door behind her.

They had not even taken a few steps when Nicholas pushed her back against the wall, leaned into her intimately, and whispered.

"I thought you wouldn’t come. I was going crazy, Luciana; I nearly barged into the palace to find you after waiting for you since sunset."

"Are you crazy? Do you want everyone to find out?" She asked in exasperation.

"I don’t care; I missed you too much," he said and sealed her lips in a hungry kiss; Luciana equally responded as her body leaned into him, their lips moving together in sync.

Luciana could feel the passion, desire, and longing between them even through the mirror. She wanted to tell them this was wrong and that they should stop, but she could only watch like a bystander as their actions became more unruly and shameful.

After kissing each other as if it were the end of the world, Nicholas went on his knees in front of her. He raised the enormous fabric of the skirt out of his way and gazed up at her through his thick eyelashes that were so long they could make a woman jealous, leaving kisses on the skin of her bare feet from her ankle and trailing upwards to her knees before he ended up right between her legs.

Luciana didn’t want to watch again, but she couldn’t deny that even she could see just how he adored her. His gaze looked like he worshiped the ground she walked on.

Luciana, in the mirror, was leaning against the wall and breathing heavily as her fingers continuously clenched around the bunched-up material of her skirt. She looked down at the man on his knees before her with eyes hooded with love and submission.

Her moans and Nicholas’ administration as they gave in to their carnal desires left Luciana short of words.

"I can’t continue living this way. You don’t know what I go through every single day if I imagine you in his arms. I don’t want to share you with him. Let’s run away, let’s leave everything behind, find a small village, and stay together. Just the two of us and our future family," Nicholas said after they were done with their business.

"I’m the Crown Princess; how do you expect me to run away with you? He’s going to search for me everywhere if I leave; he’s going to search for us everywhere if he realizes we disappeared together. Nicholas. I can’t live like that, always on the run and constantly living in fear..."

"Shhh... I know, I’m sorry," Nicholas said and added after a beat, "It’s just that the thought of him doing all sorts of things with you drives me insane. I want to kill him and keep you for myself."

The young princess’ eyes widened in horror as he placed a finger on his lips,

"Walls have ears; you shouldn’t say what you don’t mean," she scolded.

"I mean it," he deadpanned.

The mirror disappeared and the woman appeared again.

"When I got entangled with Nicholas and David found out, there was a bloodbath. I didn’t know until then that their father, the king, made David, the younger brother, a crown prince because there was something powerful within Nicholas. His abilities had never existed before, and like me, he was an anomaly; his father had long been afraid of him and had raised him to not become power-hungry and be content with his position as an army commander."

"All was well until I came into the picture, and from then on, he desired to have the throne because he could only have me if he was the next king. Nicholas killed David, and on his last breath, David called upon the deities and gods to curse us. Our souls will scatter after our death, and anytime we reincarnate, we will be star-crossed lovers; we will hurt each other and be each other’s doom; anytime our union bears fruit, it will have an early death."

"Meeting Nicholas and getting married to him each time is a result of the eternal punishment curse placed on me, on us. The curse can only be broken if you are no longer with him; soon, you will begin to draw power from him and drain him of all his power. Being together with him will only bring torture and death."

"No... no!" Lucia yelled.

"Is there a way to break the curse?" Luciana asked with a hopeful look on her face.
