Chapter 120: Captured (3)

"I guess he wants to use the lack of oxygen to threaten us to talk." Qingran said as she sat on the ground.

She had allowed them to be captured so she could learn more things about the apocalypse.

"So what do you want to do now? We can easily break out of this place if we want to.."

"Let’s wait for a while, if I can get its name, it would be easier to discern what his job role here is. There’s no zombies around this area, because of the security they can’t more here, which makes this place, in my eyes...a safe zone."

Feng Yizhou stroked his chin, he guessed she was planning to take over this place.

"We can’t take them on our own. It’s just the 2 of us and from my estimate there are well over 50 armed men here.."

Qingran chucked, that didn’t mean they couldn’t take them down.

"We have weapons and my azure flame. I’ve been looking for a good place to try it out. This looks like the right place."

[Ding! It’s quite the risk you’re taking host. But indeed this place is a good save zone.]

"Yes. That’s why I must acquire it."

"How sure are you that you can take 50 men down?"

Caocao asked but Feng Yizhou only chuckled, he had taken armies of zombies down. This was nothing.

"I’ve been farming on stamina points, even if I fight 100 men I won’t get tired. Besides Qingran said she wants this place so I must get it.."

"..."

" Very well. Suit yourself, if you die, I’ll only change host" freёnovelkiss.com

"Hey that’s kind of mean.."

"..."

Qingran stood up, the little bit of oxygen in the room had disappeared.

"We must leave this place, we can’t damage the door, so we must find a calmer way to get out."

Feng Yizhou rose beside her, his breath shallow now. It wasn’t suffocating yet, but the heaviness in the room was real—oppressive. A slow suffocation meant to wear down reason, make people speak before they passed out. Unfortunately for their enemies, neither of them had ever been particularly cooperative.

"I can burn the oxygen molecules in the lock mechanism," he offered, eyeing the sealed door. "Weaken it without making noise. That gives you a few minutes to scout outside before we’re noticed."

Qingran shook her head. "Too risky. If the sensors pick up heat changes, they’ll know we’re up. We need to blend in first. Watch where they go when they think we’ve passed out. There’s a guard rotation, possibly a ventilation override—they wouldn’t let their own men die if they need to retrieve us later."

Feng Yizhou’s mouth quirked into a grin, amused by her composure even in a slowly dying room. "You make death sound like an inconvenience."

"It is," she said simply. "Especially when I have plans."

[Ding! Host, the oxygen in this room will reach critically low levels in 3 minutes. You’ll need to activate internal stamina reserves to maintain consciousness.]

"I could have told you that without the system."

Qingran ignored both of them and crouched by the far wall, fingers trailing along the smooth panels. She knocked twice. Hollow. Then again, lower. Still hollow.

"There’s a crawl tunnel here," she said, voice growing quieter. "It’s sealed, but not reinforced. Probably for maintenance—never meant for prisoners to find."

"And I assume you want me to punch it open," Feng Yizhou said, cracking his knuckles.

"No. I’ll melt it just enough to soften the metal. Then you can take care of the rest. Actually we just need a hole that’s neither big nor small. But just enough for us to have oxygen to breathe."

Feng Yizhou nodded, if she used her flames they’ll have even less air to breathe.

"How fast do you think they’ll come?"

Qingran stroked her chin, they had been sitting in the camera blind spot for a while, that’s why they could converse like this.

"Once they see we’re down, they’ll be marching down. In the mean time we can soak a little oxygen from this maintenance place before we pretend to pass out.."

Feng Yizhou nodded and Qingran proceeded to melt a hole in the hole, it took her quite some time and energy to concentrate the fire so it could only burn one particular one.

When she was done, she felt a little woozy, Feng Yizhou noticed this and brought her head to his shoulder.

"You need oxygen, if not you might really pass out here."

He brought his hand to the hole, he heaved a sigh of relief, there was oxygen coming out.

"Alright time to get you some air.."

Feng Yizhou gently shifted Qingran’s body closer to the small opening, his hand guiding the cool draft toward her face.

The fresh air was faint, nothing more than a slow stream, but compared to the dead atmosphere in the room, it felt like life itself.

Qingran inhaled, her lashes fluttering as the oxygen reached her lungs. Her mind cleared slowly, like a fog lifting.

She didn’t speak right away, letting the air ground her first. Only once her breathing steadied did she murmur, "That should be enough. We only need to make it believable."

Feng Yizhou watched her carefully, eyes sharp even beneath his casual expression. "You’re sure about this? Letting them think we’re unconscious leaves us vulnerable." As he took in a bit of fresh air himself.

"Only for a moment " she replied, straightening up slightly.

"Once they’re in the room, they’ll loosen their guard when it’s time to move us. That’s when we make our move. Fast and clean. We don’t need any commotion, hitting the nerves should be fine."

"Understood."

They returned to their places, limbs slack, eyes closed, bodies slumped just enough to look convincingly unconscious.

Qingran allowed her head to fall sideways, resting it against Feng Yizhou’s knee. He tilted his own head back against the wall, arms limp at his sides.

The silence returned, broken only by the faint hum of the vent.

Then—

Click.

The door unsealed with a hiss.

Voices outside were low and cautious.

"They’re out cold."
