Reborn as a Mechanist with a God-Tier System-Chapter 240: A new variable in the war
BZZZZZZZZZZZ!
At the Eastern end of Iron Reef, thick gold and white ADE erupted, curling into the skies like thick snake pillars as a dense presence suddenly engulfed the city like a suffocating cloud!
The ongoing battle briefly froze.
Major Kai’s heart skipped a beat as he looked up, his eyes widened. ’A-another C Rank Ascended???’
...
Major Goldbridge was one of the first people who saw him.
Hiding outside the city for the past few minutes even as he was being marked by the D Rank NetRunner of the rebel army, Major Potter, he didn’t escape from the vicinity of the city yet as he watched the progress of the battle.
He was unwilling to escape till the outcome of the battle was decided.
And as he watched, just like he expected, the Federation Army was losing.
When he saw how the rebel Lieutenants combined their powers to kill his D Rank comrade, he felt even luckier that he wasn’t delusional enough to stay and fight the same way that Major Ceres did.
He exhaled in relief.
Watching his comrade being killed destroyed his last hope of any comeback for the Federation Army, and in his calculations, the reinforcements from headquarters would never be able to make it in time.
The reinforcement from headquarters, in his calculation even the fastest vessels would take at least 2 hours to get to Iron Reef.
And he was sure that in 2 hours, the battle would be decided.
And yet, against all odds and his calculations, just a few minutes later after his comrade was killed, that was when he felt it.
It wasn’t even an hour yet since the distress call was made!
BZZZZZZZZZZZ!
The sudden thick presence cut into the sky like a beacon of light in darkness.
Amid an eruption of thick, dense, violent white and gold ADE, Major Goldbridge looked up just in time to see a handsome male Synth in a gray suit hovering in the sky above the Eastern borders of the city, close to where he hid!
This Synth had a nonchalant look on his mechanic face as he levitated and looked down at the city from above.
Looking up at this man, Major Goldbridge felt an innate power suppression that came from the very depths of his soul, almost paralyzing him.
His eyes widened.
Feeling the dense ADE of this Ascended, Major Goldbridge realized what he was but he was stunned as his brain whirred, this was because he didn’t recognize who this was!
’A C Rank Ascended?’
’Who is this?’
’Which army is he affiliated with?’
He panicked. ’Is the Synth Order intervening in the war?’
He was already panicking when his brain finally calmed down and paid attention to the details. ’Gold and white ADE...?’ He was stunned. ’A Quantum Shaper?’
His eyes widened. ’A C Rank Quantum Shaper!’
’He’s with us!’
Even among the higher-ups of the Federation Army, they’ve simply heard that the Omnicore Federation has 3 C Rank Ascended, apart from General Sylvari Charr and the Director-Prime, most have not seen the 3rd C Rank Ascended in person, including Major Goldbridge.
This was why he couldn’t recognize this C Rank Ascended but the gold and white ADE unique to Quantum Shapers gave his identity away.
Afterall, only the Omnicore Federation could produce Quantum Shapers.
In that moment, Major Goldbridge felt excited and thrilled, but he also felt fear and regret at his decision to abandon the city.
’Will he kill me?’ He shuddered.
In hindsight, he felt lucky again because if he stayed behind to fight since, he may have ended up like his D Rank comrades but in front of this C Rank entity, he showed regret as his emotions turned complicated.
’He’ll surely appreciate a living soldier than a dead one right?’
But this man didn’t even focus on him.
The C Rank Quantum Shaper simply swept an arrogant and perfunctory glance past him before focusing on the D Rank NetRunner who’d been tailing Major Goldbridge since.
Noticing this, Major Potter’s eyes narrowed.
Neural Projection!
He ran without hesitation.
...
BZZZ!
A lean Synth with well-toned muscles in a gray suit floated above Iron Reef.
The moment Major Potter ran, General Murphy no longer cared about him as he also ignored all the stares of fear and horror that were directed his way by the strongest and most perceptive Ascended in this battlefield who could see him.
He even ignored the ongoing aerial battle between the 2 armies that the Federation Army was losing like it was too mundane for him to care about.
Instead, he thought in a sarcastic manner. ’I took about 40 minutes coming here, hope I’m not late’. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
’Surely, he’s not that useless right?’
As he thought, he cast his gaze towards the singular most ADE dense existence apart from him in this battlefield- General Sylvari Charr.
From afar, he saw General Sylvari Charr on his knees with both his eyes dazed and unfocused like he was suffering a mental attack even as his body shuddered every few seconds.
General Murphy’s dull gray eyes gleamed with amusement at the sight.
Despite everything that his imagination already cooked up when he heard that Sylvari was trapped, he never expected him to be in such a situation that he was even on his knees.
He expected to at least see a cage that was made specifically to hold NetRunners holding him while the General struggled.
He did not expect to see Sylvari so thoroughly trapped and defeated.
But this man didn’t react angrily though on seeing the current state of the C Rank NetRunner who was supposed to be his comrade, instead, he threw his head back and roared with laughter.
"Hahahahahahahaha!" He laughed while pointing at him.
"Muahahahahaha!" He laughed till his body made creaking sounds even as the attention of the most powerful Ascended in this battle focused on him, tense and waiting for him to make his move.
This General took his time to bring out his smartphone, zoom it towards Sylvari before taking a HD picture of him in his weakest state for safekeeping and future mocking.
Despite arriving in front of an ongoing battle that had already claimed tens of thousands of lives just this night, this man showed no haste at all as he casually floated in the sky like a man walking into his backyard and not an intense battlefield.
His every action screamed nonchalance, leaving all those observing him in bewilderment, right until a holographic projection suddenly appeared before him from his smartphone.
Inside the projection, an A.I Construct faced him coldly and inquired. "What are you waiting for?"
"Ok, ok, my bad". He chuckled and waved the virtual projection off, cutting the connection to the Director-Prime.
Then, he observed the battlefield in this city one more time.
Instantly, the nonchalant air about this suited Synth disappeared, replaced by an air of danger and absolute sharpness.
His gray eyes gleamed, and then they began glowing gold, deepening his perception of the reality constants of the world.
Phase Step!
BZZZ!
Amid a white and gold eruption of ADE, space folded and unlike Major Goldbridge who could jump only 15 meters at a time, this C Rank General jumped over 3 kilometers in an instant!
He entered the periphery of the trap, and finally he stopped as his glowing golden eyes constricted in surprise.
He could have teleported closer but his intuition warned him at the last second.
The reason why he stopped was because his intuition told him that if he dared enter a 500 meter region of where General Sylvari Charr was, the trap would also target him meaning it was powerful enough to trap him too!
’This is not a Class-specific trap?’ He was surprised.
Even in the 1 kilometer range that he currently was, he could feel the flesh under his skin tingling slightly under the influence of the trap.
The look on his face changed.
’Who created this?’
With his glowing golden eyes cutting through reality itself, differentiating truth from illusions, he finally saw the nature of the trap.
He saw the hundreds of millions of neon green slightly transparent data streams moving around and bouncing in and about General Sylvari Charr, each data bounce sinking him deeper into the devastating DDOS attack.
He was amused. ’What an ingenious trap’.
He finally understood why even someone like Sylvarri was trapped.
At the same time, his glowing golden eyes traced the origin of some of the data streams of the large scale DDOS attack to a few data vaults in the city, but the origin of majority of the attacking data streams stayed hidden.
’If I want to stop this attack, I’ll have to level this entire city’. He realized.
Instantly, he felt lazy. ’What should I do first?’
And then he remembered the scale of preference that the Director-Prime gave to him.
The scale of preference was finding Ren Nora, disrupting his Trial and killing him first, before rescuing Sylvari, before annihilating this city and wiping it and its inhabitants off the face of the earth.
He looked at Sylvari once more. "Oh well..."
He looked away, and then heat signatures appeared in front of his eyes like pixels in a drawing.
Reality Sculptor!
BZZZ!
