Reborn as the General's Useless Daughter-Chapter 288: Trouble at Ironspire City (Part-6)
Caius and Drusilla froze where they stood, their expressions turning stiff and ugly. Black gold coins were far more valuable than ordinary gold, as the gold had a mix of adamantine, a metal that is not even found in any mines but instead from the rocks that crashed from the sky.
Ordinary people wouldn’t even possess them.
No wonder the purse was so small. Just one of those coins alone was worth a fortune.
Everything they had just said came crashing back on them, each word slapping them across the face.
Reesa let out a bright, merciless laugh. "Look at that. You two were bragging so loudly just now, and now you’re the ones being made into jokes. It’s really satisfying to watch."
"Y-you!" Drusilla was shaking with fury, her face flushed so hard it looked ready to burst. Every time she tried to gain the upper hand, she only ended up getting slapped right back down. The more she thought about it, the more it burned.
"What about me?" Reesa tilted her head lazily, eyes full of teasing. "We bought the inn fair and square. If you don’t like it, you’re free to leave."
"You think you can just buy it? The shopkeeper hasn’t even agreed yet!" Drusilla snapped and immediately turned toward the innkeeper, as if grasping for a last straw. After all, he had looked so hesitant earlier. Surely he wouldn’t dare sell his livelihood so easily.
Zora, however, spoke before the shopkeeper could even open his mouth, and her calm words froze everyone on the spot.
"Shopkeeper, I’m only buying your inn for today. Tomorrow, it will still be yours."
The Lunar Academy group went stiff as if struck by lightning. Buying an entire inn was already outrageous enough, but now she was saying she only wanted it for a single day?
This was no longer spending money; that was throwing it into the wind just to prove a point. Even the boldest among them could not imagine such extravagance. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Caius felt his throat go dry. He liked to flaunt his wealth, but he still knew what was worth spending on. Cultivation resources, rare treasures, and things that could increase strength. This, however, was pure humiliation dressed up as money. If his family found out, they would skin him alive.
The innkeeper, on the other hand, had no more doubts. His eyes shone as he bowed deeply. "Miss, the inn is yours for today. I will move out immediately." With that, he returned Caius’s purse without even glancing at it and hurried off to make arrangements, afraid that such a generous deal might vanish if he hesitated for another second.
Drusilla stood there, speechless, unable to find even a single word to protest. In front of such blatant wealth, all her arguments were meaningless.
Zora and the others calmly headed upstairs, ignoring the Lunar Academy group completely. At this point, there was no need for further confrontation. The difference between the winner and loser was already painfully clear.
Reesa deliberately slowed down and shot Drusilla a mocking look. "Enjoy finding somewhere else to sleep."
Up on the second floor, Baldwin still looked stunned. "Zora, that was unbelievably domineering."
Reesa laughed and tossed her hair. "When has she ever been anything else?"
Sylvandria, however, frowned slightly, a trace of regret in her eyes. "But... wasn’t that too much money to spend just for this? It feels wasteful."
Everyone glanced at Zora, secretly sharing the same thought. The scene had been satisfying, but the price was not small.
Zora only waved her hand lightly, a faint smile on her lips. "Don’t worry. It’s nothing."
When she returned to her room, Black and White immediately scurried over, their little faces glowing with pride. They held out two bulging pouches like trophies.
"Master, rewards?" they asked in unison, tails almost wagging.
Zora’s eyes curved with amusement when she recognized them. One belonged to Caius, the other to Drusilla. She nodded happily. "A big feast. Eat whatever you want."
"Long live the master!" the two little fellows cheered, slapping their paws together in delight.
Those two fools from Lunar Academy were still raging downstairs, completely unaware that their storage pouches had quietly changed owners. When they finally noticed, the scene would surely be even more entertaining.
Zora opened Caius’s storage pouch, and a flood of glittering gold nearly blinded her.
Stacks of golden coins lay neatly inside, shining like a small private treasury. Even she had to admit, this fellow truly lived up to his reputation for being outrageously rich. Now, however, all that wealth had quietly changed owners.
"It seems Young Lord Caius really does come from a bottomless money pit," she said with a faint, amused smile. As always, she had no habit of refusing anything that came knocking at her door, especially when it jingled this sweetly.
"He’s rich, but not very smart," Black chimed in smugly, clearly proud of their successful heist. The temptation of a good meal had made him work extra hard, after all.
Indeed, Caius loved to throw money around, but only up to a point. If the price went too high, he would hesitate. Unfortunately for him, his storage pouch had been far too easy a target.
Zora calmly put both storage pouches away and tidied up. She planned to head out later and buy enough food to stock the Ring of Chaos. With Black and White around, the rate at which supplies disappeared was nothing short of terrifying.
Meanwhile, Drusilla and the others were forced to move out of the inn in humiliation. Today had been an unbroken chain of embarrassment, yet there was nothing they could do about it.
In all her years, Drusilla had never seen someone so extravagant that they would buy an entire inn just to spite someone. That white-clad woman seemed to have no weakness at all. Beauty, strength, background, wealth... she had everything, and it left them with nothing but a bitter sense of defeat.
Ignar Dragovic left without another word and led the Lunar Academy group to a different inn. In his eyes, true competition between Spirit Warriors was about strength, not petty displays of wealth. Still, he could not deny that the woman in white had piqued his interest.
A woman like that was bound to draw attention wherever she went.
"Caius, do you know anything about those Imperial Academy students?" Ignar Dragovic asked as they walked.
Caius shook his head with a sour expression. He had always been keen on gathering information, but he had never bothered to look into Imperial Academy’s special enrollment. Now, it felt like a mistake he could not take back.
If he had known more, perhaps things would not have gone so badly.
When they arrived at the new inn, Caius stepped forward to pay, but suddenly his face turned pale. He began patting his robes, then frantically searching through his sleeves and belt, his movements growing more and more desperate.
"Impossible... this can’t be happening..." he muttered.
"Caius, what are you doing now?" Drusilla snapped impatiently. After everything that had happened, her temper was already on edge, and she only wanted to get inside and rest.
"My storage pouch... It’s gone!" Caius blurted out, his voice tight with panic.
Everyone froze.
