REBORN: MEET MY BROTHERS-Chapter 46: THREAT
Ava sat on her bed, leaning against the headboard lazily. Her two hands rested limply by her sides on the bed, but in one of her hand, there was an invitation from one of the many gifts the Moore brothers had handed her at Evelyn’s party.
But it wasn’t just any invite--it was for an entrepreneur fair, a big event for people looking to start their own businesses.
For two whole weeks, Ava had been stuck on her thoughts, debating on whether or not to attend the fair. She’d done her homework on the event, finding out that it was backed by some of the most influential sponsors and had been running for years. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
She sighed yet again as her eyes shifted from the invitation to the ceiling. In her previous life, all she did was finish college, got her master’s in business, and worked a miserable position in her family’s company, under her controlling brothers and Sasha who treated her like filth and a slave.
This time, she wanted none of it. She didn’t want to be tied to the Whitlocks or their empire. The only reason she hadn’t walked away entirely was William, her grandfather, and maybe the simple fact that she didn’t have anywhere else to go yet.
The Whitlocks had made sure she had nothing to her name, in her past life, and even now. No shares, no money, no properties, just so that she lived by their mercy and was easy to control.
Ava held up the invitation to her face. Today was the deadline for registration. She’d never thought of starting her own company before, because she knew how strenuous and depressing it could be. Her plan had been simple—find a job in another company, far from the Whitlocks’, but right now, she was too ambitious for this.
Finally making up her mind, she stood and went to her closet. She pulled out a crisp white dress, simple and professional, and got dressed. After a final glance at herself in the mirror, she grabbed her bag and headed out the door.
It took thirty minutes without traffic for Ava to get to the venue. After getting out of the car, Ava stood outside the towering skyscraper, which had at least a hundred floors. Taking a deep breath, she straightened her shoulders and walked in.

In the same building, Sasha followed a guy in glasses who was giving her a tour of the building. He explained the layouts and purpose of the fair, but Sasha only half-listened with a bored expression. Beside her was a blonde-haired girl, who was as beautiful as a doll. She also looked bored as she walked beside Sasha.
Yesterday, Jerome had spoken to Sasha about the entrepreneur fair their company just recently invested in and how he wanted her to gain more insights for future purpose. Of course, Jerome’s requests weren’t really optional, so Sasha was indirectly dragged here.
She was shocked to see Chloe, her best friend here as well, and since Jerome had asked the people in charge to brief only Sasha about the competition and give her a tour, Sasha dragged Chloe along to have a company other than the guy.
Sasha sighed deeply as the man finally pointed to the last room they needed to know about before they walked into the elevator that led them downstairs.
As soon as they got to the ground floor, the man immediately excused himself and walked away, while Sasha and Chloe went to the lounge. They were about to enter the lounge when Chloe’s eyes fell on Ava who was walking to the receptionist.
Chloe held Sasha’s hand immediately to stop her from going any further.
A little startled by her friend’s behavior, "What is it?" Sasha asked hurriedly. When Chloe didn’t answer, she followed her friend’s line of sight to Ava. Her eyes darkened the moment they landed on her.
"What is she doing here?" Sasha asked surprised.
"I was about to ask the same thing," Chloe said spitefully with her eyes still locked on Ava. "Don’t tell me she’s here to register for the fair. Do you think your brothers invited her?"
"No way!" Sasha barked. "My brothers will never invite Ava for the fair. I personally asked Brother Jerome yesterday, and he said no."
Chloe scoffed mockingly. "Then how do you explain this?"
Sasha bit down the urge to chew on her finger nails. She was fond of this whenever a situation was out of her control. Instead, she continuously scratched her thumb with her forefinger’s nail to calm herself.
"You had better do something, Sasha," Chloe continued, "I refuse to be in the same competition with that lowlife."
Sasha’s eyes moved around nervously as she thought about what to do, but then an idea came into her head. Since her family was one of the largest sponsors of the fair, her brother had given her a special access to the manager who was in debt to their family.
She picked up her phone and called the man.
Mateo had just finished with his schedule for the morning and decided to take a quick five minutes break in his office before he proceeded with the rest of the day’s work when Sasha’s call came in.
He let out a frustrated groan, before picking up the call. "Mateo Rodriguez speaking," he said into the phone.
"Hello, this is Sasha Whitlock."
At the mention of Whitlock, the average looking man straightened himself on his seat. "Miss Whitlock," he said with a smile. "What a pleasant surprise. I wasn’t expecting your call."
"Well, most times the unexpected tends to happen more frequently than even the expected," Sasha said dryly.
Mateo chuckled softly. "That is very true, Miss Whitlock. What can I do for you?"
"I have a request, Mr. Rodriguez. It’s concerning the registration of the fair."
Mateo’s brows drawled together. "What about it, Miss Whitlock?"
"I want you to close the registration immediately."
Mateo stood from his seat, clearly shocked by Sasha’s request. "I’m sorry, Miss Whitlock, but what you’re asking for is a little too much. It is not in my power to close the registration for the fair," he said sincerely. "Besides, it’s going to end in a few hours and we’re hoping to get as much competitors for the event."
Sasha scoffed, unimpressed by the man’s answer. "I was afraid you were going to say this, and I’m sorry it had to come to this, but I advise you think twice on your answer, Mr. Rodriguez. You owe our family a great deal and it would be a shame if I call my brother and tell him you’re not doing your job properly."
Mateo’s face dropped.
"Isn’t your wife’s pregnancy almost due?" Sasha continued, "I can’t start to imagine how terrible it will be if you lost your job with an extra mouth to feed."
