Chapter 47: SASHA’S WANNABE

The phone beeped flatly as the line disconnected. Disoriented from the call he just received, Mateo pulled the phone away from his ear and dropped it on the desk. He’d just been threatened by a Whitlock, and he’d worked long enough to know that the Whitlock’s don’t bluff.

Mateo sat down slowly on his chair as he pondered on what to do. Yesterday was supposed to be the deadline for the fair due to the excessive applications.

They’d been a meeting between the board and they’d made the decision, only for their decision to be reverted when a call came in from the owners of the fair. And they’d been asked to keep the original deadline.

Now, a Whitlock, one of their major sponsors had asked to end the registration with his job on the line. Mateo rubbed his head in frustration as he thought of what to do.

.

Ava walked to the front desk with a small smile plastered on her face. "Hello," she greeted the lady at the front desk who looked up immediately she heard Ava.

"Hello," the young girl greeted back with a practiced smile. "What can I help you with?"

"I need the registration form for the fair," Ava asked softly, earning a curt nod from the girl.

She was about to hand over a form when a call from the company’s phone came through.

"Mateo Rodriguez speaking."

The young girl straightened from the voice. "Manager Rodriguez," she greeted respectfully.

"Hmm," Mateo responded calmly, even if he was so tensed. "Close the registration immediately. No more forms are to be issued starting now."

The receptionist paused halfway to the stack of the registration forms. When Ava noticed the hesitation, she frowned.

"Understood, Sir," the girl replied, before setting the phone down.

Turning back to Ava, "I’m so sorry," she said apologetically. "It seems the registration just closed. I’m afraid I can’t issue you a form."

Ava looked at her confused. "Closed? But on the invitation, it’s clearly stated that the registration ends by 4:00 pm today." She looked at her watch and showed the time to the girl. "It’s just 11: 45 am. How can it be closed?"

"The decision just came in from the management. There’s nothing I can do, Miss."

Ava’s finger tightened around the strap of her bag. Something was off. She could feel it. But she decided not to push. She stepped away from the desk, and was about to leave when she caught Sasha and Chloe in front of the lounge’s door from the corner of her eyes.

Shocked, she turned to them, only to find them smiling at her. Ava frowned. She was right. Sasha had probably done something.

When they noticed Ava’s eyes on them, Sasha and Chloe walked to where she stood.

"What’s wrong, Ava?" Chloe asked mockingly. "Did the registration end already? That’s what you came here for, isn’t it?"

They both laughed.

"It’s pathetic how she thought she had a chance here," Sasha chimed in.

Ava stared at Chloe nonchalantly before her eyes landed on Sasha. "Hey psycho..." Both Chloe and Sasha’s smile dropped. "...this was your doing, wasn’t it?" She asked Sasha who now glared at her.

"Who are you calling psycho, you pathetic little Sasha’s wannabe?!" Chloe shot back, very enraged. "Do you still not know your place?!"

Sasha grabbed Chloe’s hand as the girl took a step forward to Ava. She was very aware of Chloe’s temper, and causing a scene was not what she hoped for. But Chloe’s earlier outburst was already attracting the eyes of the few people that sat around.

Ava laughed out loud, loud enough to annoy them. "Sasha’s wannabe?" She spat each word with disgust on her face. "Is that what she tells you? She’s not even a Whitlock, you clown. In case you don’t know, she’s my replacement," she said with a smile.

Turning to Sasha, "And you, Is going around causing a scene like a crazy person now a thing for you?" Ava asked.

That was all it took to snap any thread of self control Sasha had. "Get out!" Sasha commanded, making Ava laugh once more.

Ava folded her arms to her chest. "Or what? Are you going to get physical with me?" She asked. "Before you do, look around, idiot..."

Sasha’s face was already red from anger but she grudgingly looked around.

"...there are cameras everywhere. I’ll make sure you spend a night in jail, you sicko."

.

Walking into the building, Daniel took notice of the girls that were beginning to attract everyone’s attention. At first, he was about to call security, but when he noticed Ava’s presence, he quickly pulled out his phone from his pocket and dialed a number.

"Mr. Moore," he spoke immediately the person at the other end picked up. "Miss Ava is currently in the building, but she seems to be having a little problem."

Liam gritted his teeth. "Don’t let anything happen to her, Daniel. I’ll be there soon."

The line went flat.

.

The security guard Chloe called arrived immediately, along with Mateo who’d been informed of the scene that took place downstairs.

He’d rushed downstairs immediately the receptionist informed him that Sasha was abused right under his nose. This could cost him his head if any of her brothers were to find out about this.

When he got there, Sasha was standing directly in front of Ava, her fingers almost touching Ava’s forehead as she yelled directly to her face. Ava’s unnecessary calmness and nonchalance surprised him, but that wasn’t his priority for now.

All he thought about was Sasha’s wellbeing. He hurriedly rushed to the scene. Instead of trying to separate the two girls, he avoided Sasha’s body and pushed Ava away.

One moment, Ava was standing directly in front of Sasha, wiping the little saliva that Sasha spat on her face away, and the next, she was on the floor, looking up at the man who had pushed her away from Sasha.

Her eyes widened in shock, and the pain from the contact with the floor made her wince in pain.

It was at that moment that Liam walked into the building.
