Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 421: Playing With Fire (1)
"He did what?" Lennox furrowed his brows as he listened to Jet and Jasper’s recent report about Alistair Han and the Han family.
"Madam should be aware by now. Alistair Han put Ayla Jiang in a mental institution a few weeks ago, and now she’s dead." Jet repeated what he had said earlier. The men Lennox assigned to look into the Han family’s activities delivered the report to them this morning.
Jet continued, "It seems like Alistair Han will stop at nothing to protect his family’s secrets. We suspect foul play in Ayla Jiang’s death, considering the timing and circumstances. He must have been planning to do this for some time now and only waited for Ayla Jiang to give birth to his child."
Lennox’s expression turned grim as he processed this disturbing information. He knew Alistair Han was a dangerous person, but he never thought the man was capable of murder. Lennox had always seen him as a powerful and influential figure, but this revelation painted a much darker picture. It was clear that Alistair Han would go to great lengths to get whatever he wanted, even if it meant resorting to violence.
It also didn’t help that Ayla Jiang had crossed him multiple times and forced him to marry her. It was already surprising that Alistair had remained calm and unhinged for the past few months. Still, Lennox knew Alistair was waiting for the right time to strike Ayla down, but he never thought Alistair wouldn’t give his wife a chance to retaliate or defend herself. He left Ayla with no other choice but to succumb to death.
"Tell Irina to tighten Addie’s security. I won’t allow Alistair to touch a single strand of her hair." Lennox told his two personal guards.
Ayla’s sudden death only meant that Alistair wouldn’t allow anyone to obstruct his way to get Adrienne. Of course, Lennox trusted his wife, saying she wouldn’t leave him for Alistair, but he feared that Adrienne wasn’t completely freed from Alistair’s mental clutches. He knew that Alistair’s obsession with Adrienne was dangerous and unpredictable, and he couldn’t shake off the nagging feeling that there was still a lingering threat hanging over their heads.
"Madam already asked to make the preparation she needed. She also asked Miss Han to limit her meetings and public appearances from now on. She wanted to make sure Alistair couldn’t ambush or abduct her." Jet informed his boss. They could understand why Lennox was on the edge upon hearing of Ayla Jiang’s death.
Lennox removed his spectacles from his face and pinched the bridge of his nose. He still had a lot of work to do, and it kept piling up on his desk, but hearing the news of Ayla Jiang’s death bothered him.
He couldn’t help but worry about his wife’s safety. The urge to keep her home safe was tempting; however, Lennox knew he wouldn’t be any different from Alistair Han if he decided to confine Adrienne. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
He wished he could do something to remove Alistair from their lives altogether, but he couldn’t possibly murder him. After what he did to Ares Gu years ago, Adrienne begged him not to resort to violence again, and Lennox gave her his word that he would find a peaceful solution. Lennox knew he had to come up with a plan that would protect his wife without compromising the promise he had made.
Lennox didn’t doubt that Alistair was still head over heels with Adrienne. His obsession didn’t wane with time; it only intensified, which made him more dangerous and unpredictable.
If Alistair could ruthlessly kill Ayla, Lennox was afraid of how he would treat Adrienne once he got his hands on her. Adrienne refused to tell him everything Alistair had done to her in her previous life. Still, seeing her slight tremble and the fear in her eyes whenever Alistair’s name was mentioned, Lennox knew it must have been something horrific. He couldn’t bear the thought of his wife enduring any more pain and suffering at the hands of that man.
The Lennox Qin in her past life was utterly useless, but not this time. This time, Lennox was determined to protect Adrienne at all costs and ensure she never faced Alistair’s wrath again. He would do whatever it took to keep her safe and make sure she never had to experience the horrors of her past life.
"What about my brother-in-law? Did Hunter update us on how the investigation is going on his end?" Lennox asked Jasper, who was assigned to keep tabs on Hunter.
Jasper shook his head in response. All of them were eager to deal with Alistair once and for all. Even before their boss married Adrienne Jiang, the man had been causing them problems. They were tired of constantly being on edge, fearing Alistair’s next move.
The team had been working tirelessly to gather evidence against him, hoping to end his interference with Lennox’s goal, but Alistair proved to be a formidable opponent. He seemed always to be one step ahead, leaving little trace of his involvement. It seemed to them that Alistair had learned from his previous mistakes and wasn’t willing to get caught off guard again.
"No. He told us it may take some time as Alistair Han uses dummy corporations to hide his tracks. Hunter is working with the authorities to gather enough evidence to bring him down, but it’s a complex case."
Lennox sighed, feeling the weight of the situation. He knew they couldn’t afford to wait too long, but he also wanted to rush into something with solid proof.
"We’ll have to be patient then," he said, determination in his voice. "In the meantime, we need to focus on strengthening our defenses and gathering as much information as possible about Alistair’s next moves. We must stay one step ahead of him and anticipate his every move. We should also consider contacting our network of informants and seeing if they have any valuable information on Alistair’s activities."
He gave his order, which the twins readily accepted. The faster they could deal with Alistair Han, the better.
