Regeneration System-Chapter 50:Thorne is more usefull then he looks.
As Kain and Thorne ventured deeper into the forest, the dense canopy of trees cast eerie shadows over the terrain. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth, and the occasional rustle of leaves kept them on high alert. Their battle with the Boarbeast had sharpened their senses, and they knew the forest had more dangers lurking within.
Fight 1: The Venomfang Serpent
Level: 12
Elemental Attribute: Poison
Description: A massive snake with dark green scales and glowing yellow eyes. It was covered in venomous spines that dripped with toxic fluid. Its fangs could inject a powerful paralytic poison, making it a deadly predator.
As they pressed forward, Thorne suddenly stopped, his eyes narrowing. "Kain... something’s watching us," he muttered.
Kain tightened his grip on his hammer and scanned the area. A moment later, the underbrush rustled violently, and a Venomfang Serpent lunged out, its fangs bared. Kain barely managed to raise his shield in time to block its strike. The impact sent him skidding back, his boots digging into the soil.
"Careful! Its venom can paralyze!" Thorne warned as he quickly dipped into his satchel, pulling out a vial of antitoxin.
Kain didn’t wait for another attack. With a roar, he charged forward, using Shield Bash to slam the serpent’s head into the ground. The creature hissed and coiled up, striking again with lightning speed. Kain managed to dodge, but its tail whipped around, striking his legs and knocking him off balance.
Thorne seized the moment, uncorking a vial filled with a murky purple liquid. "Let’s see how you like poison," he muttered, throwing the vial directly at the serpent’s open mouth. The bottle shattered, and the creature thrashed violently as the potent poison took effect.
Kain took advantage of its weakened state, activating Juggernaut Swing and bringing his hammer down on the serpent’s skull with a sickening crack. The beast spasmed one last time before falling limp.

Fight 2: The Emberclaw Alpha
Level: 14
Elemental Attribute: Fire
Description: A large wolf-like beast with burning red fur and claws that ignited with each strike. It was the leader of its pack, feared by other creatures in the forest.
As Kain and Thorne continued their journey, they stumbled upon a clearing littered with the charred remains of smaller creatures. The air was thick with smoke.
"Something strong is nearby," Kain muttered, scanning the area.
Before they could react, a deep growl rumbled through the clearing. From the shadows, an Emberclaw Alpha emerged, its glowing red eyes locking onto them. The beast let out a bone-chilling howl, and flames flickered along its razor-sharp claws.
Thorne immediately doused himself with a Heat Resistance Potion and tossed one to Kain. "Drink this—its attacks are infused with fire!"
Kain took a swig just as the Emberclaw lunged, swiping at him with burning claws. He barely managed to block, but the force of the blow sent shockwaves up his arm. The beast was strong—stronger than the Boarbeast or the Venomfang Serpent.
Thorne flanked the creature, casts a Toxin Curse onto it. Green veins pulsed along the wolf’s body as the curse took hold, weakening its movements.
Kain took the opening, using Counter Attack to slam his hammer into its ribs, making it stagger. But the Emberclaw wasn’t done—it unleashed a wave of fire from its maw, forcing both of them to leap back.
Thinking quickly, Thorne threw an Ice Elixir at the wolf, causing the flames to flicker and dim. Kain wasted no time, rushing forward with a powerful Shield Parry, knocking the beast onto its back. He raised his hammer high and finished it off with a devastating strike while infusing mana into his hammer, sending shockwaves through the Beast and crushing the Alpha beneath his weapon.

Fight 3: The Shadowstalker Wraith
Level: 15
Elemental Attribute: Dark
Description: A ghostly figure that drifted through the trees, its form constantly shifting. It had long, clawed hands that drained life force upon contact.
Night had fallen by the time they encountered their next challenge. The wind howled through the trees, and the temperature dropped unnaturally low. Kain shivered, gripping his hammer tightly. "I don’t like this," he muttered.
Thorne looked around, his eyes sharp. "Something’s here... something unnatural."
A whisper echoed through the trees, sending chills down their spines. Then, from the darkness, a Shadowstalker Wraith emerged. Its body was semi-transparent, flickering between reality and the void. It moved unnaturally fast, darting between trees like a shadow.
Kain swung his hammer with all his might, aiming for its core—but the weapon passed through its form like mist. His eyes widened in shock. "What the—!? It went right through!"
The wraith retaliated instantly, its clawed hand slashing toward him. He barely managed to dodge, but even though the attack never made direct contact, he felt a sudden wave of exhaustion hit him.
Thorne cursed under his breath. "Kain, your physical attacks won’t work! You need magic!" 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Kain gritted his teeth. He wasn’t skilled in ranged magic, and while he knew Mana Infusion, he doubted it would be enough. He tried again, channeling mana into his hammer before swinging, but the wraith simply phased through the attack, untouched.
The creature let out a distorted screech and lunged toward Kain. Thorne reacted instantly, pulling a glass vial filled with shimmering blue liquid from his belt—Healing Water .
"Get back!" Thorne shouted.
Kain immediately took a step away as Thorne uncorked the bottle and flung the water made for his skill toward the wraith. As soon as the Healing Water made contact, the wraith let out a blood-curdling scream. Its form flickered violently, tendrils of dark mist writhing in agony as the divine energy within the liquid burned through its ethereal body.
The wraith attempted to retreat, but Thorne didn’t give it the chance. He grabbed two more vials of Healing Water and hurled them at the creature. Upon impact, the liquid dispersed into a radiant mist, surrounding the wraith in a holy glow. The darkness of its form collapsed inward, and with a final shriek, it disintegrated into nothingness.
Silence fell over the forest.
Kain let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. "That was... rough. I couldn’t even touch it."
Thorne smirked, wiping sweat from his brow. "Good thing I had the right tools for the job."
Kain chuckled. "Guess I’ll have to pick up some magic lessons from you, huh?"
Thorne grinned. "Wouldn’t hurt. Besides, the stronger you get, the easier it is for me to keep us alive."

As they sat near a small campfire, Kain took a moment to process everything. "I need to get better with magic," he admitted. "If I can’t even hit enemies like that, I’ll be a liability."
Kain said before before smirking. "Guess I’ll have to learn some magic from you after all."
Thorne grinned. "Wouldn’t hurt. Besides, you’re gonna need it if we run into more of those things."
The Journey Back to the Academy
With their packs full of loot and their bodies aching from the day’s battles, Kain and Thorne set off on the journey back to the academy. The forest was quieter now, and the night air was cool against their skin. The moon hung high, casting pale light through the branches.
Kain rolled his shoulders, feeling the lingering exhaustion from their last fight. "That wraith was a nightmare," he muttered. "I still can’t believe my attacks were useless."
Thorne smirked as he adjusted the straps on his bag. "Welcome to the world of magic. Some enemies don’t play by the rules of brute strength."
Kain let out a tired chuckle. "Yeah, yeah. I get it. Magic is important." He glanced over at Thorne. "Seriously though, that Healing Water was insane. You took it down in seconds."
Thorne shrugged. "It’s not just about offense. Healing magic is still magic. Undead and dark creatures hate it. It’s basically their weakness." He glanced at Kain. "Maybe I should make you a batch for emergencies."
Kain grinned. "I wouldn’t say no to that. Just don’t expect me to start slinging spells like a full-blown mage anytime soon."
The path ahead curved through a thicket, and as they walked, the night sounds of the forest filled the silence—rustling leaves, distant owl calls, and the occasional snap of twigs beneath their boots. The earlier battles had left them both drained, but there was also a sense of accomplishment between them.
After a while, Thorne spoke again. "You know... I wasn’t expecting you to stand up for me back there."
Kain raised an eyebrow. "What, with Liora and the others?"
Thorne nodded. "Yeah. Most people don’t exactly go out of their way to keep someone around when their group rejects them."
Kain sighed, kicking a loose stone on the dirt path. "I don’t care about what they think. I make my own choices. You’re useful, you’ve got skills, and you haven’t stabbed me in the back yet. That’s all that matters."
Thorne smirked. "That last part is debatable, considering I almost poisoned you earlier."
Kain groaned. "Yeah, we’re gonna have to work on that. You nearly killed me back there."
Thorne chuckled. "Relax, I’ve got antidotes on hand. But if you really want poison resistance, I can help with that too."
Kain eyed him warily. "How exactly?"
Thorne shrugged. "Slow exposure. Microdoses. Your body will adjust over time."
Kain let out an exasperated sigh. "I feel like that’s just a fancy way of saying, ’let me poison you a little at a time until you don’t die from it.’"
Thorne grinned. "That’s exactly what it is."
Kain shook his head, but he couldn’t help but laugh.
The academy gates finally came into view, the towering walls a welcome sight after the long journey. The guards at the entrance barely spared them a glance, accustomed to students returning late from training expeditions.
As they walked through the courtyard, the dim lantern lights flickering in the night, Kain stretched and let out a long sigh. "Finally back."
Thorne nodded. "Yeah. I need a bath. And sleep. In that order."
Kain smirked. "Not gonna brew potions all night?"
Thorne yawned. "I need to but not tonight. Even I need rest sometimes."
They parted ways at the dormitory halls, each heading to their respective rooms. Just before entering his, Kain turned back. "Hey, Thorne."
Thorne stopped, looking over his shoulder. "Yeah?"
Kain grinned. "Good work today."
Thorne blinked, then smirked. "You too. Try not to get killed before our next hunt."
With that, they both disappeared into their rooms, the day’s battles behind them but the promise of new challenges ahead.
