Chapter 17: 17. The Nest [4].

Ray selected ’Yes’ and a massive influx of heat flooded his body as knowledge relating to fire-based magic spells surged into his mind, teaching him how to gather mana, how to shape it into flames, and how to project it forward as a form of attack.

Ray opened his palm upward and began to focus.

Then the mana around his fingertips flowed and swirled around to form a small ball of fire hovering above his hand.

The ball slowly stretched to transform into a shape similar to a lightning bolt.

Seeing this, Ray smiled, as he had just realized that this would be the first time he had ever cast a magical spell.

Then, he dismissed the fire bolt before checking out his absorbed abilities on the screen.

His blade skill had increased to level three, and now it was only a matter of time before the fire bolt leveled up as well.

Acknowledging this, Ray drifted his attention away from his newly absorbed skills.

Then, he glanced around and began to loot the chamber.

But all he could find were fifteen copper coins, two silver coins, and a leather pouch containing a handful of rough gemstones.

The gemstones were worth around five gold coins if he were to sell them at the capital city, but Ray wanted more.

He glanced around once again and noticed another staircase at the far end of the chamber leading to the third and final floor.

This floor also belonged to the dungeon boss, in other words, the Hobgoblin. So Ray knew that things would be a lot more difficult from here on out.

So, he took a deep breath and steadied himself as he walked down the stairs, but the moment he stepped off the stairs, Ray could feel that something was different.

He could feel that the floor was warmer and drier than the second floor.

The walls also seemed to have smooth surfaces, unlike the rough walls on the upper floor. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

However, Ray activated his <<Void Sense>> skill and detected five goblins who were clustered in a small antechamber, but beyond these five goblins, Ray could also detect the Hobgoblin.

He drew his sword and moved forward as the corridor opened into the antechamber where the five goblins stood guard.

All five of them were armed with spears rather than daggers like the others on the previous floors, but this meant that they were stronger and more experienced than the rabble on the upper floors.

They swiftly detected Ray the moment he stepped into the chamber and they charged towards him without hesitation in what looked like a coordinated attack.

Ray flickered to the left and the first Goblin’s spear thrust missed him by inches, but Ray had swiftly cut off its throat during that moment. Then he turned his attention toward the second goblin, which was aiming its spear straight at his chest.

But once again, he sidestepped it and grabbed the spear by the shaft before yanking it in his direction.

The goblin stumbled forward and a sword was imminently lodged into one of its eyes, piercing its brain.

The remaining three goblins spread out and tried to surround him but Ray didn’t let them.

Instead, he raised his left hand and mana gathered around his fingertips to form a ball of fire which morphed into a fire bolt.

Ray shot the bolt forward and it hit the third goblin square in the chest.

The creature shrieked and fell to the ground, then burst into flames.

The fourth goblin lunged toward Ray but he parried the goblin’s spear with his sword, then he kicked it in the knee, causing its bones to crack as the goblin collapsed to the floor

Seeing this, Ray stabbed downward, leaving only the fifth goblin.

It tried to run, but Ray threw his dagger, hitting the creature in its calf.

The goblin stumbled and fell to the ground, Ray walked towards it and sliced its neck, causing it to bleed to death.

Then he began checking out his mana reserve.

Mana: 40 / 55

Based on what he had noticed since he had begun casting his first magic spell, Ray realized that each fire bolt cost about 15 mana points, meaning that he could still cast three more spells before he ran out of mana.

Then Ray began looting the goblins before moving to the far end of the antechamber.

Here, Ray took in the massive stone door before stepping through it.

He glanced forward and spotted the Hobgoblin holding a club while sitting victorious over a pile of human skulls.

The chamber was huge and the final boss was sitting about forty meters across from him.

Torches burned in scones along the walls and the floor was littered with the bones of mainly humans. At the far end of the chamber, the Hobgoblin could be seen sitting on a throne made of stones and bones.

The Hobgoblin was massive and it was nearly seven feet tall.

It had green colored skin with a lot of scars and it was wearing an iron plate strapped around its chest and shoulders.

In its right hand was an iron club, the size of a small tree trunk. But it stood up from its throne the moment it noticed Ray stepping into its chamber.

It didn’t roar nor did it charge towards Ray, rather it simply assessed him carefully before knitting its forehead in rage.

Noticing this, Ray assumed a battle stance while a screen popped up in front of him...
