Regressor's Harem Of Vengeance-Chapter 18. Ray Vs Hobgoblin.
’Level 10?’ Ray couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
Yes, he had expected the Hobgoblin to be way stronger than any of the other goblins in the nest, but he certainly hadn’t expected it to be this strong.
No wonder the adventurers who discovered the nest had barely been able to defeat the Hobgoblin.
In his first life, the three adventurers had barely survived the Hobgoblin’s attack and now, he could see why it had happened.
However the fact still remained that the battle at that time had been three against one, but now, he was the only one standing before the Hobgoblin.
Nevertheless, Ray wasn’t going to let the Hobgoblin’s level intimidate him.
He tightened his grip on his sword and the Hobgoblin raised its club before pointing it at Ray.
Then it charged in rage and the ground shook with each step it took.
Despite its size, the Hobgoblin moved really fast and closed the distance between them in seconds. It raised its club high above its head before bringing it down on Ray.
But Ray swiftly flickered to his right, causing the Hobgoblin’s club to smash where he’d been standing a heartbeat before.
Then the stone floor cracked as dust and debris exploded in the air.
Using this, Ray slashed at the Hobgoblin’s exposed flank but his sword bounced off the iron armor of the Hobgoblin’s body.
He didn’t even leave a scratch on its armor, but the Hobgoblin spun around and backhanded Ray with its free hand.
Its movement was so fast that even Ray couldn’t react in time to defend against its attack.
So he was thrown backward and his back slammed against the wall, causing him to gasp in pain as the impact drove the air away from his lungs.
The Hobgoblin swiftly charged forward and brought its club down, but Ray rolled to the side just as the club was about to slam into his skull.
The ground shattered and a huge crater appeared on the floor.
Ray scrambled to his feet as he clutched his ribs in pain.
’Fuck, this guy is too strong.’
’I need to do something or else I’m going to die.’ He glanced around and one thing became immediately clear to him.
’Rule number one, don’t get hit by this guy.’
Just a single backhand slap had almost crushed his ribs just now, so if he were to take on another attack like that, he would definitely be killed by the Hobgoblin.
This just went to remind Ray of how strong a level 10 opponent was in comparison to his current weak level.
"Let’s do this," Ray muttered with rage-fueled determination and the Hobgoblin roared in anger as well before charging headfirst.
Ray activated his <<Void Step>> ability, then appeared behind the monster before slashing at the back of the Hobgoblin’s knee where it had no armor.
His blade sank deep into its skin and blood sprayed out as the Hobgoblin roared and stumbled forward.
However, Ray didn’t waste this golden opportunity laid out in front of him.
He immediately slashed the same spot again, but this time around his blade dug deeper, and the Hobgoblin’s leg buckled before it dropped to one knee.
Seeing this, Ray raised his sword to land the finishing blow, but the Hobgoblin’s eyes glowed red as it activated one of its skills.
<Berserker’s Rage>>
The creature roared louder and its muscles swelled even more as it swung its club in a wild horizontal arc, aiming straight for Ray.
He tried to dodge the attack but he was too slow and the club still caught him in the side.
His ribs cracked once more and Ray flew across the chamber, slamming into the wall again as blood flew out of his mouth.
His vision became blurry while the Hobgoblin remained standing with its wounded leg still somehow supporting its weight.
The reason behind it was that, <<Berserker’s Rage >> was currently boosting its strength and dulling its pain, so it wouldn’t feel the pain of its injury until the skill had worn off.
Meanwhile, Ray coughed up blood while forcing himself to stand, as the left side of his body hurt terribly.
But this worked out quite well for the Hobgoblin who charged towards Ray once again, but Ray lifted his left hand and activated his new skill <<Fire bolt>>.
The flame hit the Hobgoblin on the chest and its armor glowed red-hot.
Ray fired shot after shot, causing the armor to melt slowly after his second attack while the third fire bolt burnt through the weakened armor and made contact with its flesh.
The Hobgoblin fell to the ground from the impact and noticed the smoke rising from its wound.
Meanwhile, Ray swiftly glanced at his mana reserve.
Since he had already activated Firebolt three times, he wouldn’t be surprised if his mana had dropped significantly.
Mana: 10 / 55
"I knew it."
His mana pool was almost empty and this meant that he had one chance left to change everything.
If anything went wrong now, the battle would end with his death.
There was no doubt about it.
Ray tightened his grip on his sword, then lifted his head to see the Hobgoblin raising its club.
Its body began to glow with a red-like aura, and it didn’t take a genius to know that the Hobgoblin was currently activating a new skill.
However, if the new skill ever made contact with him, Ray would without a doubt, be dead.
Ray knew this.
And so did the Hobgoblin.
Then the Hobgoblin swung its club, but Ray activated his <<Void Step>> ability, allowing him to flicker to his left while the Hobgoblin’s club smashed thin air and landed on the ground, missing him by inches.
The impact cratered the stone floor, but Ray was now behind the Hobgoblin, staring at its exposed back.
He drove his sword straight into the base of the creature’s spine and the Hobgoblin shrieked in agony.
Its legs gave out and it fell forward as its club clattered from its hand.
Ray pulled his sword out before stabbing it again and again and again, without giving it any chance to recover.
He watched the Hobgoblin thrash around on the floor as it tried to reach him, but its legs wouldn’t work and Ray kept stabbing, targeting its neck, spine, and any gap in its armor.
This continued until finally, the Hobgoblin stopped moving and Ray stepped back, breathing hard with his sword dripping blood onto the floor.
