Chapter 19: 19. Three New Skills.

Moments later, a notification screen popped up in front of him.

[Three New Skills Are Now Available For Absorption.]

[Skills: Power Strike (Uncommon skill) Lv.4, Berserker’s Rage (Rare skill) Lv.2, Thick Skin (Common skill) Lv.3]

[Would you like to absorb all three skills?]

"Yes."

Ray replied and a surge of heat surged into his body, along with the knowledge of how to use all three skills.

He now had knowledge of how to gather his strength to create one devastating blow, he knew how to push past his pain and fear while also hardening his skin against damage.

However, Ray noticed something essential about the skills he was absorbing.

Ray realised that not only was he absorbing the skills and knowledge of how to utilise them, but he was also absorbing the experience of the skills themselves, allowing him to grasp the skill at the level it was when the Hobgoblin still possessed it.

That is, the Power Strike, Berserker’s Rage, and Thick Skin Skills all remained at levels 4, 2, and 3, respectively even after he absorbed them.

Meanwhile, Ray continued to fully understand the skills he had absorbed, but then he smiled happily when he realized that he had completed his main objective for stepping into the dungeon.

He tried to cheer loudly in excitement, but his broken ribs reminded him of the pain he was in and he winced in pain before looking around the chamber.

He scanned the chamber with the hope of finding a treasure room, because in most dungeons, the dungeon boss always had a treasure room or two, so Ray was hoping to find one here as well.

After looking around, he found it behind the throne. The treasure room was in a small alcove, but it was blocked by a wooden door.

Ray pushed it open and found out that the room was small but packed with a bunch of gold coins piled up in one corner of the room.

Ray swiftly began to count them, but he discovered that there were exactly thirty-eight gold coins in total, meaning that it should be more than enough to pay the Baron’s tax and still have enough money left over for him and his family.

Of course, Ray hadn’t forgotten his primary objective and his main priority.

Baron Harvard was his first target and nothing was going to change that.

But as for when he would be carrying out his revenge.

It will be soon.

Very soon.

Moving on, Ray turned around and noticed more goodies in the room.

There was also a rack in the room that held several weapons.

Most of these weapons were rusted junk, but one out of all them stood out.

It was a long sword, but it was slightly curved, and it shimmered with a faint blue color.

Clearly, it was an enchanted sword.

So, Ray picked it up and noticed that it was a lot lighter than his late father’s sword. He swung it experimentally and tried using it to cut through the air in front of him.

After he did that, Ray noticed a system window appear before him.

[Item Acquired.]

[Item: Frost Blade (Rare weapon).]

[Enchanted Long sword: +5 Strength when equipped.]

[Every attack has a 20% chance of slowing enemies down during battle.]

[Durability: 100/100]

Ray strapped the frost blade to his hip and left his father’s old sword behind.

Yes, it felt wrong for him to have done that, but the sword was getting old and he needed to wield an upgraded and more useful one.

In other words, he was going to need every advantage he could get to help him on his path.

Looking around, Ray noticed a few minor items in the treasure room.

He grabbed two more healing potions, a handful of gemstones, and a small silver necklace that had a glowing blue stone at its center.

He wasn’t sure, but it looked like the necklace might also be an enchanted item. And since he couldn’t appraise it, Ray decided to keep it still.

Ray stuffed everything into his pack and a sigh of relief escaped his lips.

"I’ve done it." He muttered. He still couldn’t believe that he had actually cleared the dungeon on his own.

"And now, I’m a level 8 adventurer." The realization felt surreal, especially when coupled with the fact that he now had over twenty gold coins in his pack.

In his previous life, even when he had advanced to a level 5 adventurer, Ray had still been poor and had been using a broken sword back then.

But this time, things were a lot better and Ray couldn’t wait to get back home.

He left the treasure room and walked through the boss chamber, even stepping over the Hobgoblin’s corpse before heading for the exit.

It took him about an hour to get back to the top part of the dungeon, and this was because Ray had to climb the stairs slowly due to his broken ribs which made every step he took painful.

He had drunk one of the healing potions on his way up to the surface, but it had only helped to ease his pain slightly.

It didn’t make the pain disappear completely, so his ribs needed more time to fully heal.

Ray finally emerged from the dungeon’s entrance, and then he noticed that the sun was setting.

He sat on a broken stone wall before deciding to check his status one more time.

"An E-rank Adventurer, huh?" Ray muttered as he glanced at the screen hovering before him.

In his first life, it had taken him months to reach this rank, but now, it took him less than a week to reach the level of strength and experience.

Thinking about this, Ray clenched his fists in determination before closing the system window.

"It’s time to go home." He muttered as he stood up and began his journey back home.
