Rehab for SuperVillains (18+)-Chapter 238: Miss you
Chapter 238: Miss you
"I miss you, Kael."
Kael’s expression softened, his hazel eyes warm, a quiet ache in his chest at her words.
He reached for her hand, threading his fingers through hers, her skin cool against his warmth.
"I know," he said, his voice low, sincere.
"Things have been all over the place. The Haven’s gone, the Reaper’s mess, all of it. But I’m gonna fix this, Freya. You and I—this won’t get lost in the noise. I promise."
She glanced sideways at him, her blue eyes searching, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "You better."
He grinned, his hazel eyes glinting with mischief. "Now, tell me—how’s your promise to get stronger coming along?"
Freya sighed theatrically, nodding toward the kitchen, her platinum-cyan hair shifting, her tank top clinging to her breasts as she leaned back.
"Strength comes from food. And with Liss’s cooking? I barely have the energy to stand, let alone train."
Kael chuckled, the sound warm, easing the tension. "It’s not that bad."
She turned to him, wide-eyed, her blue eyes sparkling with mock horror.
"Kael. Even Rhea cooks better than Liss."
He blinked, his hazel eyes widening, a grin breaking through. "Did you tell Rhea that?"
Freya gave him a look, her lips twitching, her voice dry. "If I did, she’d be impossible. She’d start bragging and never stop."
They both laughed, the warmth between them settling like a soft blanket, their hands still entwined, the morning light casting gentle shadows across their faces.
Kael leaned in, his forehead brushing hers, their breaths mingling, a quiet intimacy in the moment.
"I’ll talk to Liss," he said, his voice low, teasing. "We can’t have you wasting away because of... spiced ash or whatever that stew was."
Freya’s smile widened, her blue eyes softening, and she pulled him into a kiss—soft, a little needy, her lips lingering against his like a held breath, her tongue teasing briefly, a spark of warmth in the contact.
When they parted, her blue eyes glinted, her voice sultry. "You better."
Kael stood, stretching, his hazel eyes warm, his muscles flexing under his loose black shirt. "I’ll go rescue the kitchen."
"Good luck," Freya teased, picking up the newspaper again, her blue eyes sparkling with amusement, her legs still tucked beneath her. "If you survive, bring back something edible."
Kael’s grin lingered as he turned toward the kitchen.
But in that moment, Freya’s warmth anchored him, a quiet reminder of why he fought to keep them all together, even as the unseen threat loomed closer.
_______________
Kael stepped into the kitchen of Liss’s villa, the smell of spices and something slightly overcooked hitting him like a wave, a mix of charred cumin and vegetables pushed past their prime.
Liss stood at the stove, her blonde hair in a messy bun, her loose t-shirt and shorts clinging to her athletic frame, stirring a pot with a rigid intensity that betrayed more than just culinary focus.
The morning light filtered through the windows, casting soft shadows across the sleek countertops, the villa’s high-tech hum a quiet backdrop.
"Morning," she said without turning, her voice sharp, focused, her stirring relentless.
"Morning," Kael replied, leaning against the counter, his hazel eyes watching her, arms crossed over his loose black shirt.
Her posture was too stiff, her grip on the wooden spoon too tight. "You always stir with that much hatred, or is it just today?"
Liss shot him a brief glare over her shoulder, her blue eyes narrowing, then turned back to the pot, her bun bouncing slightly. "It’s concentration. Not hatred."
He smirked, his hazel eyes glinting with amusement. "Right. Mind if I ask why you’re acting like this?"
"Like what?" she snapped, her voice defensive, her stirring pausing for a fraction of a second.
Kael raised an eyebrow, his grin teasing but gentle. "Like you’re auditioning for Iron Chef when you don’t even like cooking. Come on, Liss. Let Freya handle the meals. She actually enjoys it."
Liss stopped stirring, her shoulders tensing, and slowly turned to face him, her blue eyes sharp but guarded. "What’s wrong with my cooking?"
"Nothing," Kael said, his tone careful, his hazel eyes warm. "But I know you. The old Liss? Takeout five nights a week, rooftop restaurants the other two. This?" He gestured to the pot, the faint smell of overcooked spices wafting up.
"This isn’t you."
A quiet tension hung between them, the bubbling pot and her silence filling the air.
Liss’s gaze dropped, her fingers tightening on the spoon, her voice low, almost reluctant. "I started learning."
Kael softened, his hazel eyes searching her face, his voice gentle. "
That’s good. Really. If you want, Freya can teach you. She’s a kitchen wizard."
"I don’t want her help," Liss said quickly, her voice tightening, her blue eyes flashing with defiance, her bun swaying as she turned back to the stove.
Kael stepped closer, his boots soft on the floor, his voice dropping to a warm murmur. "Then what’s this really about?"
She didn’t meet his eyes, her stirring resuming, slower now, her voice barely above a whisper. "I just... wanted people to know I can cook too. That I can be wife material."
Kael blinked, caught off guard, his hazel eyes widening. "Whoa. Where did that come from?"
Liss glanced up, her blue eyes defiant but tinged with embarrassment, her cheeks flushing faintly.
"I was reading magazines a few days ago. Those dumb ones—’The Top Ten Traits of a Supermom,’ ’Be the Ultimate Wife.’, I don’t know, Kael. It got to me."
He chuckled, his hazel eyes glinting with amusement, his grin playful. "You? Falling for clickbait articles? What’s next, a vision board?"
"Shut up," Liss said, her smirk breaking through, her blue eyes sparkling despite herself, her bun bouncing as she shook her head.
"There were charts and bullet points, Kael. Bullet points. I thought, ’Shit, I can fight, but I can’t even make eggs properly.’"
"So this is a crisis of domestic confidence?" Kael teased, his voice warm, his hazel eyes dancing.
"It’s an identity reinvention," she shot back, her smirk widening, her blue eyes glinting with defiance.
