Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 326: Pagast
"Do you want me to stay with you?" The fiery-eyed woman asked as she stood up from the rocky ground. Her two furry ears atop her dreadlocks twitched slightly.
Alora shook her head, maintaining her cold expression, "No, I’ll see him alone," She said.
"Thank you," Alora added, remembering to show strategic kindness.
The fiery-eyed woman merely nodded, not taking the words to heart. Alora would need more experience if she planned on deceiving someone like her any time soon.
She had literally grown up and trained in the lion civilization, and these subtle political games and power plays were known to her like the back of her hand.
However, she would not call these games out because as it was, no one was ever sure when someone else was being genuine or just playing mind games.
Her body burst into a pillar of flames as she blasted off the ground, flying toward another mini-planet and following the path of the gigantic chains.
Alora sat in silence, contemplating something. The golden screen of the lion system flashed in front of her face, showing her the new messages in the public chat room.
Messages were appearing and disappearing at the speed of light. Alora could only settle her focus on a few messages at once to get the gist of what was going on.
They seemed to be discussing the latest feature of the system, the Lionhood Bar.
"Alora," A deep soft voice came from behind her, causing her body to flinch slightly.
Alora didn’t look back to check who it was, she recognized the owner of the voice to be her father, Pagast.
"Hello, father," Alora responded coldly.
"Still scared of me I see," The owner of the voice said as he walked forward.
A tall man appeared in Alora’s view. The man was muscular, wearing a long white fur trench coat that covered his shoulders, back, and hands and flowed down to his ankles.
But the trench coat couldn’t hide his large frame and icy aura. His face was similar to Alora’s, except more masculine, older, and more refined.
He didn’t have the albino-like complexion that Alora had, his skin was a healthy fair tan. He had no beard, only a head full of long white hair that reached his back and blended nicely with his white fur coat.
Compared to Alora’s expression which was usually aloof and cold, this man maintained a calm and steady gaze that showed he had more experience hiding his true nature.
"What do you want?" Alora asked. She was slightly on edge when it came to this man.
She inherited her nature and emotional spectrum from him, she had been trained by him since she was a cub and she was aware of what he was capable of. She was just like him, which is precisely why she was on edge.
He was dangerous. His calm and steady disposition might fool others but it won’t fool her.
He lowered her head subconsciously, allowing her jaw to cover her exposed neck. At the same time, she slouched her back slightly and her arms shifted a little to face her abdomen.
She was subconsciously covering her weak spots.
The tall white white-haired man faced her calmly. His deep blue eyes which were like frozen sapphires rested on his daughter’s frame. His thoughts were a mystery to her.
He saw all the little movements she made but didn’t address them.
"I came here to talk," he said.
"About?" Alora asked.
"The Primordial Lion,"
"Oh, so you didn’t come for me..." Alora muttered to herself.
Pagast shook his head, "No I didn’t. Do you still need me to check on you every now and then?" He asked, barely hiding the condescending tone in his voice.
"No," Alrora replied.
"Exactly, you made it clear that you are ready to fend for yourself after the stunt you pulled. I must say, you are truly my daughter.
However, there are matters far more important than you that I have to attend to. That’s why I came to you today," Pagast said. He didn’t mince his words or sugarcoat his intentions.
This was how he had raised Alora, straightforward and direct.
"What do you want to know about the Primordial Lion?" Alora asked, changing the topic before it went out of focus.
"I want to know what exactly you offered him for him to be willing to give the heavenly beacon to you. What did he see in you that made him choose you as the new owner?
You didn’t really elaborate on what transpired between you two," Pagast said.
"That is a matter I don’t wish to discuss," Alora said with a firm gaze. She was scared of her father, yes, but her pride surmounted all and covered the sky.
She would not show any weakness in front of him, not again.
"Oh," Pagast said, somewhat surprised.
"It seems you have a private relationship with the Primordial Lion, or is it something else?" Pagast smiled, revealing his sharp teeth.
Alora remained silent.
"That makes sense, after all, you’ve been acting a bit different since you came back from the expedition.
Before you left, you were cold, yes, aloof, yes, but you tended to hide it well. Now look at you. You even dare to look me in the eyes when I’m talking to you.
How bold!"
A frosty aura surged out of Pagast’s body, freezing the ground that Alora was seated on. Alora remained still. The ice crept toward her but never managed to reach her.
Pagast wasn’t intentionally trying to hurt her so she was able to easily keep the ice away.
"You joined the Fanged Flower Alliance, an organization strictly meant for Lion Queens.
By now, you should have started your own clan, and many of the alliance members would gladly help you out. You could have picked two or three consorts for yourself, get pregnant, and start a matriarchal pride.
But you haven’t done any of that now, have you? You’re just here, training, trying to get stronger. It’s almost as if you don’t know the reason why the Fanged Flower Alliance exists."
"I didn’t know a Lion Queen needed to do those things. You and I both know I’m not like that, Father." Alora said.
"Oh, I know, I also know that you’re barely capable of having any emotional attachment to anyone.
I wondered if you had somehow fallen in love with that Primordial Lion...," Pagast paused to see Alora’s reaction.
Alora merely shot a confused look at him, she herself had never even thought in that direction until Pagast brought it up just now.
"...But that seemed outrageous to me. I concluded that you must be under some kind of pressure, a deadline maybe, which is why you have been more focused than usual.
It’s good I guess. You and I may share different visions but we have the same drive, power. I can understand.
If the Primordial Lion can put you in such a position, he is worth my attention. That’s why I came to join the so-called lion system.
I want you to send me your referral," Pagast finished.
Alora frowned. If she said she trusted what her father was saying, she would be lying. Pagast could not be trusted.
She even noticed how Pagast seemed to be lost in his own words. As if what he was saying wasn’t what was on his mind. He had just said not long ago that there were more important things than Alora, yet he had just spoken briefly about Alora as if he cared about her.
It was clear that he was using her topic to prevent himself from saying what was truly on his mind. He was dangling a false desire while hiding his true desire.
"You could have asked any of the others to refer you," Alora said.
"No, the Fanged Flower Alliance supports the Primordial Lion even though not all their members have joined yet. Do you know why?" Pagast asked.
"Because even now, they are still trying to play politics and from networks," Alora answered.
It was true, the lions and lions and lionesses who supported the uprising of the Primordial Lion were far more than those who actually joined the Lion System.
It was as Alora said, even now, they were still trying to take advantage of the situation to reap the most benefits and gain the most power.
"Think of this as me offering you my favor. I know that there are rewards for referring a Lion King. I wouldn’t want to give that reward to anyone else when I have a daughter who needs it," Pagast smiled charmingly.
Alora nodded, finally understanding a bit of what Pagast was trying to do. It was still the same old power play, trying to get her indebted to him so that he could use her in the future.
Did he think Alora would really honor it? Maybe not. It could just be a last-ditch effort from a narcissistic father to maintain control over his daughter. Or it could be a small step in a greater plan.
Just then, Alora sat up as she received a message from none other than Kael. Kael had made his second request, and it was a very interesting one.
